When you say “but” you look like a butt. Think about it! When someone says, “No offense but…”, we all know that the next words out of that person’s mouth is going to be something offensive. This is true for every time you use the word “but” – “I can see your point but…” or “No disrespect but…”. It is people ignoring everything that was JUST said and only focusing on what they are trying to say.
Once you use “but” you have discounted and discredited everything that was just said, thus making you look like a butt. Just stop doing it! Say what you need to say and get to the point. Don’t try and dance around the topic or meander around being honest…just say it! I will give you some examples that people use that disqualifies the previous statement. Hold on, some of these might get offensive.
In ALL of these instances, everything BEFORE the “but” is discounted. People try to tiptoe around saying what they need to say or having an actual opinion and try to but their way through life. So, in turn, they make themselves look like a butt. If this is you, the good news is that all you have to do is say what you need to say and stand by your opinion. Drop the but and you will no longer be a butt!
I know what you are thinking. You’re thinking “FINE! I’ll just use “however” instead”. Wrong! That’s just a fancy but! Stop trying to beat the system and just freakin say what you mean. Mean what you say and stop being a butt and lose the but.
