Can you explain just from your perspective what a mystery shopper is? Well, the image of a ninja you need to take out of your mind. You want them to look like a normal patient that’s a friend of yours and what you do is you send them in and with very specific goals of them taking notes mentally as they go through the process, the good, the bad, the ugly, the great, the not so great, and then when they’re done with their experience in your business, then you sit down with them and you break it all out and you go through what their experience was. Now, just because I think some of this stuff might seem like common sense to you because you’ve done it for so long, but when I hired my first mystery shopper for one of my businesses, I didn’t know that I shouldn’t tell anybody that they were the mystery shopper. And so everybody kind of knew that they were, but it wasn’t very mysterious. Because everyone’s like, that’s Jamie, Jamie. So, and they’re all like kind of, so I guess rule number one is you really can’t tell people that the mystery shopper is coming to town. Absolutely. Or one of the games I like to play is to say, sometime this month there’ll be one. So treating everybody, you need to treat everybody. And that’s the key. Treat everybody as if they are that mystery shopper. But yeah, you don’t tell. And do you incentivize the mystery shopper, like give them a bonus for their client issues or feedback? Typically you get what you pay for. So I give them the, you know, typically no charge or maybe even something on top of that, you know, no charge on the services and maybe even pay them, you know, on top of that for them to do it. Awesome, awesome. Okay, so that’s what a mystery shopper is. Clay Clark is here somewhere. Where’s my buddy Clay? Clay. Clay’s the greatest. I met his goats today. I met his dogs. I met his chickens. I saw his compound. He’s like the greatest guy. I ran from his goats, his chickens, his dogs. So this guy is like the greatest marketer you’ve ever seen, right? His entire life. Clay Clark, his entire life is marketing. Now I can better that, okay, Clay, I don’t think you know this. I don’t think you know this. I’m pinching myself and if I cry, forgive me. In the last two and a half days, we have bettered our entire month of February. In the last two and a half days. So and the phone’s blowing up. Everything’s just blowing up. You’re right, it is like a rocket ship. So we’re pinching ourselves, actually. I learned at the Academy in Kings Point, New York, acta non verba. Watch what a person does, not what they say. Some shows don’t need a celebrity narrator to introduce the show. But this show does. In a world filled with endless opportunities, why would two men who have built 13 multi-million dollar businesses, altruistically invest five hours per day to teach you the best practice business systems and moves that you can use. Because they believe in you. And they have a lot of time on their hands. They started from the bottom, now they’re here. It’s the Thrive Time Show starring the former U.S. Small Business Administration’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Clay Clark, and the entrepreneur trapped inside an optometrist’s body, Dr. Robert Zuckner. Two men, eight kids, co-created by two different women, 13 multimillion dollar businesses. I’ll show you how to get here Started from the bottom, now we here We started from the bottom, now we here We took flight, started from the bottom And now we’re at the top Teaching you the systems to give what we got Colton Dixon’s on the hoops I break down the books See, bringing some wisdom and the good looks As a father of five, that’s why I’m alive So if you see my wife and kids, please tell them hi It’s the CNC Up on your right, yo And now, 3, 2, 1, here we go! Yes, yes, and yes! James, on today’s edition of the Thrivetime Show, we’re talking about how to deal with customer complaints. On a bigger level, there’s this quote out there that says, this is a quote here, the only way to avoid criticism, the only way to avoid criticism is to do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. It’s the only way, now again, a lot of times you have quotes and these quotes get attributed to Aristotle, then they get attributed to Abraham Lincoln, next thing you know we’re saying well Trump said that and I think that any wise person has probably said this at some point so let’s just but again the main quote is the only way to avoid criticism is to say nothing do nothing be nothing. Why is what does that mean in your mind? Well it means if you don’t want to get criticized, don’t do anything. And everyone that’s doing something will get criticized no matter what you’re doing. Exactly. And I think this is really important because as we are talking about how to deal with customer complaints, I think it’s easy to go, I would never get a customer complaint. Never. Okay, well then you’re probably not doing a lot of business. I mean, that’s probably the only way that I can think of to avoid all criticism is to not have a business. Because I’ve been self-employed since I was 15 years old, I think that uniquely positions me to be an expert on dealing with complaints. An expert, oh yeah, here we go. Okay, so let me walk you through this real quick though, seriously. So I ran a company called DJConnection.com, for anybody out there who wants to look it up, I don’t own it, I haven’t owned it for over 10 years, it was called DJConnection.com. This company was massively successful, we were doing 4,000 weddings a year. Now we’re doing 4,000 weddings a year and less than 2% of the customers were upset. I know this because we would call the bride after every wedding and ask them to leave us a review. We’d call them and say, hey, I’d love to get your feedback on your wedding, on the performance of the entertainer, the DJ, on a scale of one to 10. If 10 is awesome and one is terrible, please leave us a review. Tell us how we’re doing.” And the bride would tell us, this is before Google reviews, but they would tell us, and I’d say, so you’re saying like a nine or an eight or a seven, okay, what can we do to improve? And why would I do that after every wedding? Why would I have a quality control loop? So you could always get better. Okay, so every, now imagine that you were a DJ who worked for me at that time. Imagine you were a disc jockey, okay? And you knew that after the wedding that your pay was tied to the happiness of the bride. So the bride’s perspective of how well you did affects your pay. So I told the bride, I would tell all the brides and the DJs, I would say, after your wedding, we’re going to call you and ask you how happy you were with the disc jockey’s performance, and your review will determine the DJ’s pay. And the DJ knows this. So if you leave the DJ a review that’s like a 10, or a nine, or an eight, he’s gonna get paid this, essentially he’ll double his pay. Now if he gets a bad review, like it’s seven or less, their pay is a lot less. So the guy can go from making, let’s say $150 to DJ that wedding, to provide disc jockey services for that big event, that corporate event, that wedding, or he can make $300. Why did that work? Because it made all the DJs try their hardest to do a great job. Okay, so again, let’s talk about this for a second. So how do you avoid criticism? Well, you say nothing, you do nothing, you be nothing. Okay, we got it. Okay, we’re going to attribute said quote to Aristotle, okay? But again, there’s a lot of people who’ve said this, okay? But the quote is, there’s only one way to avoid criticism. Do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. Now, quality control loop. If you own a business today and you’re listening today, why would you, James, if you’re out there listening today and you own a business, you’re a automotive repair shop, you’re a lawyer, you’re a doctor, you’re a dentist, you’re a photographer or videographer, eyelash extension business, you are, and again, on part two of today’s show, I’m gonna share with you some testimonials of actual clients that we’ve helped to grow. But why do you think that I would insist that every one of my clients would call every one of their customers after they’ve provided service and ask for a review? Why would I do that? Well, so you could hold your employees accountable. Interesting. So you’d want the feedback, right? Right. OK. So again, this is big, though. So if you have a business and you want to grow that thing, you’ve got to follow up. It’s called a quality control loop, OK? Or maybe you call it a feedback loop, OK? The value of these feedback loops. Again, I’m calling if you’re out there listening today and you have a business and you want to grow that thing, one of the most important things you can do, there’s so many things to do, but one important thing to do is you call every single customer after you’ve provided service and you ask them for their feedback. And you get the feedback and then that you want to ask them for an objective Google review, video review, that kind of thing. But when you get the complaint, that shouldn’t be shocking. If you’re doing 4,000 events a year and 2% of the brides are upset, that means, let’s do some hard math here, hard math folks, we’re going 4,000, 4,000 times.02 is 80. So I’m getting 80 brides a year telling me, you ruined my wedding! Every week. Every week it would be like one and a half brides. Nice. Who are super mad, you ruined my wedding! I mean, every time. And you know why I got one a week? Because 2% of the customers were pissed. And the only way to not have a customer who is pissed, again, is to do what? Nothing. Right? That’s interesting. So as we do these conferences, every time we do them, again, if it’s a business conference, if it’s a Reawaken tour event, whatever it is, there’s going to be about 2% of people that are pissed. Let me give you an example. If I feature Eric Trump or Kash Patel or I feature, for the Reawaken tour or for the business conferences that I’ve been doing since 2005, if I feature a guy who used to run Harley Davidson, I’ve done that before, or if I feature one of the world’s top public relations experts like Michael Levine, or if I interview the author of E-Myth Revisited, or I interview Robert Kiyosaki, there’s always somebody who will tell me, I don’t understand why you interviewed that person, they’re not good. This is because that’s what’s gonna happen. It’s the only way to avoid criticism is to say nothing, do nothing, and be nothing. But you’ve got to have these quality control loops. So help somebody out there, James, sort that out in their mind. They’re like, why would you have a quality control loop if you know it’s impossible to make everyone happy? Well, you could always be getting better with your product or service, and then it keeps your employees accountable. Okay, so I’m going to have you read from a book I’ve written. My newest book is called A Millionaire’s Guide to How to Become Sustainably Rich. And if you want to download the book, you can go to thrivetimeshow.com forward slash millionaire. And for everybody out there who says, I don’t want to be rich. Okay, well, let me just throw this out there. If you are the most patriotic patriot of all time, and you want to show your support for your candidate of choice, and you want to buy a flag and put the big flag up on your flagpole and celebrate that candidate That requires money if you want to send your kids to college or not send them to college or buy chicken or buy eggs Or buy food or buy clothing or you want to do anything at all it requires money And then you can use said money to do whatever you want to do But if you don’t have money you sort of don’t have you’re not in the conversation, right? You’re not knowing people that really don’t frankly care So if you’re out there today, you’re like I don’t care about money live under this bridge and push this cart and just Don’t even care about money under this cart with this with this bridge I’m just pushing my cart under the bridge and I got this cardboard box and got this tarp and this Cart, have you noticed that every homeless guy has a cardboard sign and they somehow have a sharpie every one of them That’s their move. They write on there, please help. Yeah. So you can find the balance of how wealthy you want to be, but we’re just going to read here from this book. If you want to download and read along, folks, you can go to Thrivetimeshow.com forward slash millionaire. That’s Thrivetimeshow.com forward slash millionaire. You can download the book for free. We’ll go to page 99. James, please read from page 99 of said book, sir. Years ago, I worked with the retail business in which thousands of transactions took place per week. Less than 2% of the customers were ever upset, but you could almost guarantee that the owner was going to be called and asked how to handle nearly 40 customer service issues per week. 2,000 transactions times 2% is 40 customer service issues. When I sat down with the owner to discuss his business, we analyzed where he was spending most of his time, and he explained that it was impossible for him to get anything done because he was dealing with a customer service issued nearly every hour of the day. And we agreed that he would be okay if his frontline team, the staff that interacts with the customers, was empowered to give up to a 100% refund to any customer who was dissatisfied. Okay, real quick. So when somebody calls in and they want a facility come again some of these conferences James that I do will have Thousands of people at the event thousands and you talk to some people after the event. No call and go that was the best event Ever. Thank you. They’re so happy. But then there is somebody who’s like the parking situation was crazy Yes, and I’m going that’s a sign of a good conference. I mean if it’s sold out I mean am I supposed to am I supposed to pour asphalt? Build a parking lot. Am I going to build a parking garage for the one night that I’m going to pack it out? The insanity of the idea of complaining about parking is wild. But people are going to do it. So I give you the authority. What are you able to do if you’re selling tickets? What are you able to do? Give refunds. Right. And you don’t have to seek my guidance to do it. Right. Why? Because it’ll waste your time. Right. That’s what I’m saying. So you’re listening to this show right now. I empower you to go on iTunes and leave a review. In fact, if you do leave a review, if you leave an objective review on iTunes today and you send us a screenshot of it, okay, for today, you actually are entered in for a chance to win a flat screen TV that’s a fact also if you leave an objective review on iTunes today if you do it today now this is when the show hits the it goes out boom you do it boom you leave a written objective review you screenshot that thing and you text proof that you’ve done it to 918-851-0102 918-851-0102 for today and today alone you are entered in for a chance to win a backstage pass to one of our conferences. Okay? Boom! But you leave an objective review. And you might say, I hate this show. All they focus on is facts and freedom and facts. Okay, that’s your opinion. You can do that. And then somebody else might love it. And you can do that. But I think some people think that I need to convert my life into like a call center where I personally get on the phone You know those call centers where they’ve where they’ve clearly Outsourced the call center to no longer in America. Yes, and they go what if they keep recording or that did Rita? We can do it. This is Kevin and you’re like Kevin. Where are you? Where are you? Where are you calling from right now? I’m calling from Texas. Yeah, you’re not gone from day. I am calling from Texas. No, I don’t think you’re calling from Texas I don’t think, nor does this Kevin from Texas. People think that I should like turn my life into a call center where I just personally, every time that somebody gets a haircut at Elephant in the Room, if they’re upset, that I should spend my entire day dealing with that complaint, that I should spend my entire day dealing with parking complaints at our conferences that are always sold out. There are people that feel like I should do that. But instead, I give you the authoritat to do what? To give refunds. Right. So if you’re out there listening today and you have a business, there are three action steps you want to take today, OK? Action step number one, you want to install a quality control loop. Why do you want a quality control loop in place there, James? So you could hold your employees accountable and you could make your product and service better. Yeah, and I could find out, wow, 99% of the attendees who came to our event were very happy and 1% were irritated Okay, great. So, you know what’s going on? That’s important, but you’re not gonna have universal praise because only one way There’s only one way to avoid criticism. It is to do nothing say nothing and be nothing right step number two you want to install guard rails Okay guard rails and policies to allow your team to deal with 99% of the complaints. All right. Step three, you must embrace, you must embrace, oh yes, you must embrace that not everyone is going to like you. And if you run around trying to get everyone to like you, what’s gonna happen? You’re not gonna have any time to do anything that you actually want to do. You’re going to be pleasing everyone and you can’t please yourself. That’s how it works. So if you’re out there today and you want to attend one of our in-person Thrive Time Show workshops, let me tell you how it works here, folks. You can buy a ticket by going to thrivetimeshow.com. And the way I do it is I tell people it’s $250 or whatever price you want to pay. Now someone goes, what? That’s not fair. I paid $250. How come the other guy is paying $8? That’s so shady. I don’t like it. Because I want to help people that need a hand up because I grew up poor and that’s what I want to do. It doesn’t make me a horrible guy or a great guy. That’s just what I want to do. And I’m okay that somebody out there doesn’t like it. You know, I did a show a while back and one of my longtime clients happens to be Asian. So I’m doing this show and one of my longtime clients listens to the show. He loves the show. Because on the show, I kept doing the thing where I was saying, there’s no square, no corner, just circle. No corner, just circle. Circle, circle. It’s a circle, quality circle. A circle, no corner, circle, quality. Provide service, give feedback. The circle. And my client, who happens to be Asian, is like, that’s so awesome. It reminds me of my dad. And I’m like, what do you mean? He goes, my dad talks like that. His dad is first generation Asian. He’s like, I’m not Asian. I’m like, I’m not Asian. I’m like, I’m not Asian. I’m like, I’m not Asian. like that his dad is first-generation immigrant see like my dad would say you’re super you’re so super you do good job he’s like no matter how long you lived in America he would talk like that now he’s like so when you were terrible there’s no corner just call a t-sucker I love the suck no corner just suckle he’s like I loved it cuz I was like reflecting back to my dad who’s deceased and just him saying things because he knew very little English So he would Rick repeat the things in English like you’re doing very good job. Good job. You are doing very good He didn’t have a whole lot of other now. He could like speak articulately in his native tongue, but he’s like that was awesome And he thanked me for it. Meanwhile. I got lit up on bad comments from here I thought you’re so racist. You know, or I did almost an entire show where I was talking about being an Oklahomie and what that means. And, you know, in Oklahoma, a lot of people tend to talk in Oklahoman, they tend to kind of, hi man, how you, how’s it going? If you go to the store and you go buy something from the local store, gas station, local gas station, local hardware store, a lot of times you’ll walk in and people say, welcome into the store, how you doing, man? You know, there’s a little bit of that. You said I’m doing fine. Well, it’s good to see you. I’ll tell you what, you know, I’m probably talking too fast. There’s a little bit slower. So it’s like a I’ll tell you what man. It’s a good to see in here You need anything else and you almost feel like Can you talk a little faster, but there’s a little bit that slow southern drawl where they’re pump number two’s on for you right there, buddy You need anything? There’s a little bit of a slower pace and I like it and one of our listeners reached out told me I loved it when you were talking, Oklahoma because that’s how I talk and I appreciate that But again, somebody else’s we’re ripping on people from Oklahoma you judgmental jerk So you can’t you can’t do you know the imitations because that’ll irritate somebody. You can’t offer a scholarship prize. You can’t do anything really. I mean, for the speakers, for the reawakened tour, people say, man, I love those speakers. Some people say, I don’t like your speakers at all. So the only way to like make everyone happy is to just not have an event or not have a business or not. So I encourage everybody out there today. The moral of the story is there’s only one way to avoid criticism, and that is to say nothing, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. That’s the only way to avoid criticism. I encourage you today, again, that quote is, there’s only one way to avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing. So if you’re out there today and you want to be something, I would encourage you to go to Thrivetimeshow.com. You can request tickets for our in-person workshops. We get into the specifics, the specific steps on what you need to do to optimize your website. We’re going to teach you how to fix your conversion rate. We’re going to teach you how to do a social media marketing campaign that works. How do you raise capital? How do you get a small business loan? We teach you everything you need to know here during a two-day, 15-hour workshop. It’s all here for you. You work every day in your business, but for two days you can escape and work on your business and build these proven systems so now you can have a successful company that will produce both the time freedom and the financial freedom that you deserve. You’re going to leave energized, motivated, but you’re also going to leave empowered. The reason why I built these workshops is because, as an entrepreneur, I always wish that I had this. And because there wasn’t anything like this, I would go to these motivational seminars, no money down, real estate, Ponzi scheme, get motivated seminars, and they would never teach me anything. It was like you went there and you paid for the edific chocolate Easter Bunny, but inside of it, it was a hollow nothingness. And I wanted the knowledge, and they’re like, oh, but we’ll teach you the knowledge after our next workshop. And the great thing is we have nothing to upsell. At every workshop, we teach you what you need to know. There’s no one in the back of the room trying to sell you some next big get-rich-quick, walk-on-hot-coals product. It’s literally we teach you the brass tacks, the specific stuff that you need to know to learn how to start and grow a business. I encourage you to not believe what I’m saying, but I want you to Google the Z66 auto auction. I want you to Google elephant in the room. Look at Robert Zellner and Associates. Look them up and say, are they successful because they’re geniuses or are they successful because they have a proven system? When you do that research, you will discover that the same systems that we use in our own business can be used in your business. Come to Tulsa, book a ticket, and I guarantee you it’s going to be the best business workshop ever, and we’re going to give you your money back if you don’t love it. We’ve built this facility for you, and we’re excited to see it. And now you may be thinking, what does it actually cost to attend an in-person, two-day interactive Thrive Time Show business workshop. Well, good news, the tickets are $250 or whatever price that you can afford. What? Yes, they’re $250 or whatever price you can afford. I learned at the Academy at Kings Point in New York, octa non verba, watch what a person does, not what they say. Good morning, good morning, good morning. Harvard Keosak, The Rich Dad Radio Show. Today I’m broadcasting from Phoenix, Arizona, not Scottsdale, Arizona. They’re close, but they’re completely different worlds. And I have a special guest today. A definition of intelligence is if you agree with me, you’re intelligent. And so this gentleman is very intelligent. I’ve done this show before also, but very seldom do you find somebody who lines up on all counts. And so Mr. Clay Clark is a friend of a good friend, Eric, Eric Trump, but we’re also talking about money, bricks, and how screwed up the world can get in a few and a half hour. So Clay Clark is a very intelligent man, and there’s so many ways we could take this thing. But I thought since you and Eric are close, Trump, what were you saying about what Trump can’t, what Donald, who’s my age, and I can say or cannot say? Well, I have to, first of all, I have to honor you, sir. I want to show you what I did to one of your books here. There’s a guy named Jeremy Thorne, who was my boss at the time. I was 19 years old working at Faith Highway. I had a job at Applebee’s, Target, and DirecTV. And he said, have you read this book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad? And I said, no. And my father, may he rest in peace, he didn’t know these financial principles. So I started reading all of your books and really devouring your books. And I went from being an employee to self-employed to the business owner, to the investor. And I owe a lot of that to you. And I just wanted to take a moment to tell you, thank you so much for allowing me to achieve success. And I’ll tell you all about Eric Trump. I just wanna tell you, thank you, sir, for changing my life. Well, not only that, Clay, thank you, but you’ve become an influencer. More than anything else, you’ve evolved into an influencer where your word has more and more power. So that’s why I congratulate you on becoming. Because as you know, there’s a lot of fake influencers out there, or bad influencers. So anyway, I’m glad you and I agree so much, and thanks for reading my books. That’s the greatest thrill for me today. Not thrill, but recognition is when people, young men especially, come up and say i read your book change of life and doing this and doing this and doing this i learned at the academy king’s point new york octagon verbal watch what a person does watch what a person does not what they say
