Get ready to enter the Thrivetime Show! We started from the bottom, now we’re here. We started from the bottom and we’ll show you how to get here. We started from the bottom, now we’re here. We started from the bottom, now we’re here. We started from the bottom, now we’re on the top. Teaching you the systems to hear what we got. Cullen Dixon’s on the hooks, I’ve written the books. He’s bringing some wisdom and the good looks. As a father of five, that’s where I’mma dive. So if you see my wife and kids, please tell them hi. It’s C and Z up on your radio. And now three, two, one, here we go. We started from the bottom, now we’re here. Started from the bottom, and that’s what we gotta do. All right, today we are talking about search engine optimization. And specifically, we’re focusing on the issue of mobile compliance, how to optimize your website to sell more stuff. And we are joined across the way here with Super Dave, all the way from the great state of? Connecticut. Connecticut. And he’s our Thriver of the Month twice. And he’s here because he was asking us, well, how does this whole mobile compliance deal work? And there’s all these websites and blogs that are always talking about how Google’s updating and they’re making these changes. And the reality is, and I always tell people this example, is it’s like your mom, she says, don’t reach into the cookie jar, you know, don’t grab some stuff out of the cookie jar, you know, and you’re in third grade, and you’re like, okay. Mom leaves, you kind of sneak over, you get a cookie or two, you know, she doesn’t notice, next day have a cookie or two, doesn’t notice, pretty soon they’re all gone. So mom’s like, okay, I know you took the cookies, now I’m gonna set up some new precautions. Now I’m gonna, now mom installs a camera to watch you. Now mom’s got like, and then that doesn’t work. So mom sets up like a laser trip wire system. And like I said, pretty soon mom’s got little like non-lethal landmines that explode as you try to grab it. And mom’s tasering you. And the thing is Google is trying to keep their search pure and good. They’re trying to make it where every time that you’re searching for something, you don’t find the wrong thing. They’re trying to make it where if you’re using your mobile phone, you can find what you need to find. They’re trying to make it where it’s a great experience. And so I want to go ahead and get started here with this notable quotable, and then we’ll kind of dive into it. Today, the notable quotable I want to read you is from Sir Isaac Newton. And he says, if I have seen further than others, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants. What does that mean? What it means is you can learn all this quickly by watching this, or you can kind of reverse engineer the people in your market who are top in Google. So Google your competitors, look at their site, find out who’s coming up top. I mean, so basically go to your market. Let’s say you’re a remodeler and you’re in New York. Just Google New York remodeling and find out who comes up top in their search, who comes up top in your search, and reverse engineer what they’re doing, or you can apply the principles we’re teaching you directly here. Now, the thing about Google and what we’re talking about today is there are four core principles you have to understand in order to get to the top of Google. There’s not 15, there’s not 75, there’s just four. So I’m going to give them to you. Principle number one is you have to have a Google-compliant website. And you have to cough whenever you are pausing. No, but you have to have a Google-compliant website. And what that means is your site has to be built the way that Google likes it, not the way necessarily that you like it. The second thing is you have to have more backlinks than your competition. You can’t have less backlinks than your competition. What’s a backlink? We’ll get into that, but you have to have more backlinks than your competition. Now the third is you have to have more original content. What do I mean by original? I mean copy, it’s basically copy, content, text, HTML text if I want to nerd out a little bit there But it’s text on your website That is not an exact duplicate of somebody else’s and the fourth is now you have to be mobile compliant Mobile compliant. Yeah, there’s all sorts of research and stats out there That are showing that people like you people like me people like him people like him people are using their smartphones to search for things. So perhaps you are an alien and you’re watching and you don’t use your phone to search for things. But most people, if we’re going out to eat and we don’t know where to go, we pull out our smartphone and we type in, Tulsa restaurant, New York restaurant, New York city restaurant, Brooklyn restaurant. And I was actually in, just recently I was in Brooklyn and we typed in Jamaican jerk chicken, you know, Brooklyn. And we found a little place over there by the Barclays Center, and that’s how you do it. So the thing is, most people are searching via their mobile phone, and so Google has changed the rules a little bit so that way people who are using their smartphone can have a good experience. They don’t want sites that are not mobile-friendly to come up top in the search engine, because basically if your site came up top in the search engine and it looked horrible on a smartphone, you would eventually stop using Google and you would start using one of their competitors or whoever was the first one to make companies be basically compliant to mobile friendliness. Does that make sense? So on your phone you’re looking at something on we have a screen right here this is a big screen but when you’re using a phone and you’ve got a little small screen and so what we want to do is we want to be able to build a site that looks great that comes up top in Google but that also looks great on the mobile phone and so we’re going to get into some of those specifics today and we have Marshall Morris some of you might have talked to Marshall before. We have Marshall Morris here. He’s going to be kind of our driver leading the way on the keyboard, on the mouse. He’s making it happen. And so we’re going to dive into it. So the first thing we need to do, the first principle we need to do is we need to have that Google compliant layout. And there’s a whole bunch of features underneath this. I’m going to walk you through them because it’s a lot of nerdery. It’s a lot of stuff where you might go, what are you talking about? So we’re going to get into it. The first thing I want to do, can we go ahead and pull up a Google search for an actual search that we’re doing? So let’s pull up an incognito window. Now, just so you know what incognito is, most people are going, what’s incognito? Let’s go back to basic Google. Let’s just go to Google. Just pull up a Google tab real quick here. So if we’re in Google, let me click in the very top right of the screen here, very, very top right. You’ll see three little bars and it lets you choose incognito mode. Boom. So we clicked it. Incognito mode is a mode where Google’s not tracking your search results, allegedly. We know that they’re working with the government to spy on us and stuff, but the point is they’re not supposed to be keeping track of your search at this point. And so basically your biases, your searches, your tendencies, your nuances, your cookies, the things that show your search preferences will not affect the search. Then once we’ve pulled up an incognito tab, we want to search for the term that we want to optimize for. So let’s say that you are in fact a contractor and you are in Tulsa and you want to dominate the Google search go ahead and type in Tulsa space contractors. Hit enter as most people do on their smartphone or their computer and when they do it boom who comes up top we got this home advisor you got the JK restoration you got the better business bureau you got the scroll down okay scroll down you keep it these are the guys who are coming up top right now and so if you were in the Tulsa market, you would want to be top for this term. You would want to be top, you’d want to be right there. Because why would you want to be there? Well, because almost everybody I’ve ever met and every research study I’ve ever read shows that people usually don’t go to page two. Very few people are going to page two. Some people do, some people like you, but most people don’t. So let’s go to this tab over here to the right, the one that’s behind this tab we already pulled up here. This right here, we typed in the word Tulsa Home Remodelers. And if you look up here in Google, scroll all the way down again, you see the first website that’s not a Better Business Bureau or a third-party site is Wizard of Saw’s Tulsa. Well, why is Wizard of Saw’s topping Google? Why are they topping Google? Well, they have the most original content, and they’re working on becoming mobile compliant. So let’s go ahead and go to their actual site now. So we’re going to pull up a tab to the actual website for, okay, so now we’ve clicked on the website. Well, once we found the website, now we’re going, okay, well, what are all the things I have to do to make my website top in Google? Well, the first component is an H1 tag priority. H1 tag priority. What’s H1 tag? What’s your H1 tag? I’m gonna read you the definition. An H1 text, H1 text or H1 tag priority means it’s text that defines the most important heading that appears at the top of each website. So I’m going to walk over here and show you. But the first text on the site is this. Let’s give you…can you just select it real quick? It says, let’s give you something to smile about with the Tulsa Home Remodeling experts. You notice that phrase, Tulsa Home Remodeling. That’s the H1 text. The first text on your website, we’ll call it the headline text, is the H1 text. So you need to make sure that the H1 text on your website right now, you need to do it, is the first text on your site needs to be focused on the keyword you’re going for. That’s an action item that we can all do. So as an example, back in the day when I ran a wedding DJ business, my H1 text used to say, learn more about Tulsa’s best wedding DJs. And then the home page begins. But make sure you put a headline up there. Not putting a headline text on your website will penalize you for Google. That’s H1 text. Now the second variable is it’s he or she, whoever has the most original content wins. When I say original content, what do I mean? Now, Google doesn’t publish their exact algorithm, but I’ve been doing search engine optimization forever, and I’ve literally helped companies make millions of dollars more from this so it works. But what happens is is that Google doesn’t recognize text on a page if you do a couple things. And I’m going to show you what things you can’t do. So Marshall, if you can scroll down real quick. If you look here, he has a ton of text on his site. So just click on one of those links at the bottom. Each one of these links is going to feature text. And if you notice his site, let’s just scroll down a little bit, kind of slowly. You have to have at least 500 words of text on a page for Google to count it, basically. Someone watching this might go, that’s not true. It might be 407. The point is you can’t put two words. Get 500. Well, how many words is 500? 500 words is obviously the number 500, but it is five paragraphs that are five sentences each approximately. So if you write five paragraphs, there are five sentences each, that is going to basically equal 500 words. And I’ll tell you this, the more words you have on a page, the higher the likelihood it is that you’re going to come up, the more words you have related to that subject, the more words you have that are related to that subject, the higher the likelihood is that you’re going to be top in Google for that term. So let’s go ahead and do a Google search here in incognito, and let’s search for our friend Ryan Tedder. Ryan’s a guy I went to college with. He’s the front man for One Republic. You know the song Too Late to Apologize that you just can’t get away from. He writes for Adele and Beyonce and all these folks. But you notice how Wikipedia comes up top for him. His own website doesn’t come up top. He’s the front man for one republic. One would think that he would be optimized for his own name, but he’s not. Well, let’s look. Let’s go to wikipedia.com and on wikipedia.com, look how many words there are related to Ryan Tedder. Let’s just scroll all the way down. Just kind of slowly we can see. I mean, that’s a lot of words. Okay. So it’s a lot of words. I’m gonna give this to you because it’s something I want you guys to learn. I want you to marinate. As you watch this, I want a light bulb to go off for you. I want you to hear this. If Google was a librarian, and you walked into the library of Google, and you said, what is the best book you have? The Google librarian would say, well, whatever book is the longest is the best book. Does that make sense? No. They’re going to say whichever book has the most content is the one that’s going to be top in Google. So whatever web page has the most text, that’s what’s going to be top. Does that make sense? Yes. So let’s pull up onerepublic.com next to it, another tab next to it. So I’m going to pull up his website and I’ll show you why his own website isn’t top in Google. Because his website is designed to be a beautiful, artistic look. Look at it, it’s a sharp site. Scroll down, where’s all the text? Well, is it there? Is it there? Marshall, click a different page. Where’s the text? Is it, click a different one. Is it here? Is it there? Guess what? It’s nowhere, why? Because they built a site that’s artistic, right? People know the name OneRepublic. You know the song Counting Stars. You know Too Late to Apologize. You know Beyonce. They figure people are looking for them. But if you want to optimize your site, look at Wikipedia. I’m going to go back to that. A lot of text. Going back. Not a lot of text. A lot of text. Not a lot of text. We’ll make sure you see how important it is to have a ton of text. You could be Ryan Tedder and you won’t even be top for your own name if you don’t have more text about yourself than someone else. Okay? See, it’s about who has the most text. All right, now the third principle, the third principle that we really want to dive into, this next principle here is the title tag. Now the title tag, Marshall is going to show, go back to the home page of Wizard of Saws, going back to the home page, that’s the page we landed on, that’s the original page, and then right-click that beast, just right-click over there in the border. When you right-click, you can click view page source and when you do that look what comes up This is what Google sees Google sees this they do not see go back to what they don’t see show the site again They don’t see this they do see that They don’t see this They do see that kind of looks like Wikipedia doesn’t it all that text all those back links that whole deal So what you look here as you get into it, I’m gonna walk you through it. We have right here, we have the keywords. So Marshall, can you select on the screen where it says keywords? Sweet, that’s the keywords, Google sees those keywords. Look up above it, that’s the title tag. We’re talking right now about the title tag. That’s the title tag. That’s the tag that Google sees. And I want to give you guys a rule. Look at that title tag, marinate on it. Think about your own business right now and think about what would your title tag be. And here’s a little tip. If possible, you only want to have six words. Well, you’re saying six words and there’s a phone number? Now again, Google doesn’t publish all their algorithms and some people want to put their phone number, their title tag. I personally don’t think it matters. I wouldn’t do it if I were you. But it says Tulsa contractors, vertical bar, the best Tulsa custom remodeling. I would recommend we change it right now to say Tulsa contractors, best Tulsa remodelers, best Tulsa home remodeler. So that’s four words, a total of six words, okay? Now you have to put a vertical bar. Marshall, can you select that vertical bar in between those words? You have to use a vertical bar in between. Why? I don’t know. I can’t write HTML code and I’m not a web guy to invent the Google, but I’m telling you, this is something you have to do, okay? You have to see, you have to have a title tag on every single page of your site. And if you’re like, I don’t even know how to create a site, man. That’s OK. We have awesome trainings that are coming out for you, specifically about how to build a WordPress site. It’s going to blow your mind. Your mind might explode. But at Thrive, we’re all about making money so that you can achieve your goals. So we’re trying to teach you the specifics. Do you have any questions about the title tag, though? No. Cool. So title tag, we’re good. Moving on to the next one. Meta keywords. Marshall’s like those keywords again. Now the keyword rule. Okay. You really, if you can, you want to use no more. And I repeat no more than four keyword phrases per group here. So look at this best Tulsa remodeler. That’s one come find the best Tulsa contractors. That’s two fine Tulsa remodeling, that’s three. Remodeling in Tulsa, that’s four. So if I could change something, I would change it to be four phrases. What phrases? Four phrases that people search for in Google. And you might be going, I don’t even know what people look for in Google. We’re gonna help you. We’re gonna come back to that, hold that thought, marinate on that, maybe jot that down in your notes. How do I know what people are looking for? Because we’re going to come back to it. But does that make sense, my friend? Yes. OK, moving on to the next one. Now we are going here into your tags, OK? This is your meta tags, or some people call them your keywords. OK, you got that. Never mind. We have the meta tags and the keywords. I just want to make sure we’re not getting confused. Google refers to the keywords, the description, and the title, all three of them together, as this thing called meta tags or metadata. So if you ever hear, well, what’s your metadata? What’s your meta tags? That means keywords, descriptions, and title. That’s what that cluster of words, that’s what that means. So if you ever are reading an article and they’re talking about meta tags, that’s what we’re talking about. Now, if you notice, David’s getting a call. Was that a Google lead? It was. Okay. So, all right. The SEO is working quickly. Okay. Well, here’s the deal. So, the thing is, is that we have those meta tags we have. We have the title, the keywords, the description. As you’re noticing, I’ve already given you a lot of rules. I’ve talked to you about H1 text, title, keywords, description. That’s four things. I don’t know about you, but about the third time my wife gives me anything on a list, I have now forgotten. So, you’re going to need to make a checklist. A checklist? That sounds like work. That’s right. We have to have a checklist because if you’re not fastidious, fastidious, you’re not a maniacally focused on details, you’re gonna skip a step. And if you skip a step, you’re gonna skip the getting paid part. You know I mean? You’re not gonna have any Google leads, okay? So we need to make sure we do that. Now the next step is we want to add that content and the meta descriptions to our site. You’re going, well, I don’t have a site, baby. I don’t know how to do it. I don’t know. WordPress.com is what you want to use. You want to use a WordPress-based website. But I was told that Blogger’s good. Well, my friend does it. My cousin built me a Flash-based site. Let me tell you something. Google thinks that Flash is the devil. Google does not like Flash. Do not use Flash. Use WordPress. My cousin built my site using… tell your cousin it’s cool but we need to use WordPress. Why? Because Google likes it. So use a WordPress based site. I don’t make any commissions for pitching it. Just do it. You gotta do it. Now we’re scrolling down our checklist. The next thing we need to do is we need to do local permalinks. Local permalinks. What’s a local permalink? A permalink is any link on your site that links out to local and relevant content. Now there’s people all over the world right now going you don’t need to use permalinks bro. Well you should be watching this basic website training if you are the Yoda of search engine optimization. But I’m just telling you let’s go back to Wikipedia real quick. We go back to some Wikipedia action. I think we have it back there. Okay. Let’s go back to Wikipedia. If you notice on Wikipedia, there’s all this text everywhere, but they’re actually links. So if you hold your mouse over it for a minute, if you click the link that says YouTube, it will take you to the page about YouTube. And if you click the link where it says Bono, it’ll take you to the page about Bono. And if, does that make sense? So it’s what happens is these links, you’re selecting words, and you’re putting a hyperlink from one page to another page within your site and on to other sites. Why? Because Google is trying to build the world wide web, not the world wide line. Line? Well, if every page of your site led to an empty place, then it wouldn’t be a web, it’d be easy to browse. They want you to be able to quickly navigate all over the place, okay? And that is why you need to select text within your site and put links, hyperlinks, from that text to other sites and other parts of your own website. Now, I’m going to teach you the coolest, most incredible way to do this systematically. Go back to the Wizard of the Saw’s website, please. Now, if you scroll all the way down at the bottom, he has an index of all of the pages of his website. So that means that you as a user can get to any page of his website from any page of his website. Again, you can get to any page of his website from any page of his website. And what that does is that allows the user to have a better experience, thus allowing Google to optimize your site more highly. That’s why Wikipedia, if we go back to Wikipedia, scroll down, you see how many links they have everywhere? If you ever get lost and you’re like, I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s a wonderful book called Get Rich Click, which is a great book. It really walks you through the specifics of this as well. I believe we’re taking right now about 24 hours of reading and putting it into a 30-minute training. But Get Rich Quick is a great resource for you. It’s written by a guy by the name of Ostrovsky, Mark Ostrovsky, awesome book. But if you ever get lost, go back to Wikipedia. Just look at Wikipedia, see what they’re doing. They have it figured out. Perhaps we haven’t noticed, but they’re top of Google for almost every term. Years ago, I worked with a company called Apothecary. Can you Google Tulsa Apothecary? That’s a customized pharmaceutical drug, Apothecary. That’s what it means, it’s a customized pharmaceutical product. When you Google Apothecary, their site comes up top, right? We worked really, really hard to do that. But let’s go ahead and take the word Tulsa off it and just search for Apothecary. Look who comes up top, Wikipedia. And we’re right there number two, which isn’t bad, but they’re up there at number one. Why is Wikipedia top for apothecary? Click on it. Because these guys have, let’s review the rules one more time, so through repetition, we’re gonna learn this, okay? One, their H1 text, what’s the first word on the site? First word, apothecary. H1 text, baby, they do it. Second, those homies are using the title tag. Look at their title tag. It says Apothecary right up there. And again, if you don’t know what someone’s title tag is, what do you do? Right-click it, View Source. And once you get in there, there it is. And you’re going to find in there, you’re going to find the title. There it is. There’s the title. And then you’re going to find the keywords. You’re going to find the description. And all three of those together are called metadata. Oh, metadata. Yeah, meta tags and metadata. Cool? Go get, I just want to make sure because people over the world call it different things. I want to make sure if you hear the word metadata, meta tags, that’s what we’re referencing. That makes sense? Are we good? OK. Now, the next part we need to focus on is we need to focus on embedding video onto our website. Embedding video onto our website, why? Well, who owns Google? Well, Larry and Sergey. Who owns YouTube? Larry and Sergey. Google. So Google gives priority, some people might watch this and say, they do not, I work for Google, I know they don’t. But Google gives priority to sites that feature YouTube. So what we’re gonna do is let’s go back to the Wizard of Saws. And we have videos specifically about how to do this, so I’m not going to get too lost in the weeds here, but scroll back up to the very top, and you’ll notice he has a video that is embedded on his website. Why? One, it increases the usage. People love video. People would much rather watch a video of you than to read text, but two, is that Google gives preference to sites that feature video. Hopefully that makes sense for everybody. If you have any questions, just click the Ask the Guru button. We’ll be happy to pick up the phone, walk you through this. How many videos should you have? How many videos should you have? I would recommend that you’d put a video in what is called Above the Fold on every page of your site. So when you go to your site, the first thing you see is what’s called Above the Fold. If you grab a newspaper, what will happen is you’ll grab the newspaper, and when you open it up, here’s the cover, and then below it is below the fold. So here’s above the fold, and then if you open the paper up, you’ll see below the fold. On a website, the first thing you get to is above the fold, and if you scroll down, the fold is right here. Anything below that is considered below the fold. And what you want on your site to improve conversion and to make some money is you want to have at least three call to actions above the fold, phone number, submit a question, get a quote, and you want video. We have some specific videos on how to turn your site into a conversion tool, but for right now, it is unbelievably important that you follow this checklist and you make sure that the video, you embed a video on your site. Somebody says, I don’t know how to make a video. We have videos about how to make the videos coming out. We’ve got, well, someone says, I don’t know how to embed, we’ll walk you through. Someone says, I don’t know how to make a YouTube account, we’ll help you. Don’t get lost in the weeds. We’re just trying to get that checklist in your possession. Because once you have the knowledge, the knowledge is that potential power. You apply it, you make more money. Any questions about what we’ve gone over so far? Nope. OK, rock it. Now, the next thing is you want to have localized images, which means every time that you put an image on your site, name it after the local keyword that you’re trying to dominate. So can you do a Google search for Clay Clark? That’d be I. We’re gonna Google search for me, they’ll probably find either the word awesome or not awesome, we’ll see, we’ll see. Pray humble. Oh, there’s my face, click on images. Images, there we go. So why do these pictures pull up? Well, these pictures are named after me, okay? So the picture is named my name. So if you look at some of these pictures, they’re on sites that feature me or they’re named after me. So click right here on that one. Okay, that’s a Tulsa World article, click it. And when you click it, that’s pulled from an article that was on the Tulsa World. And that article is called Clay Clark’s Success Formula Works for Entrepreneurs. It was part of how they labeled the actual image. So anytime you right click on that image, anytime you save an image, do save as. Save the image as, let’s see here, and this little spin wheel is kind of more of a fun wheel. It’s kind of a mental marination provided to us by the good folks at Paws.com. So we’ll as that’s Tulsa, home, remodeling. And I’m gonna put a dash between Tulsa and home and a dash between the home and remodeling. But I’m gonna name my image after what people are looking for in Google. Anytime you put an image on your site, name that image. Name that image after the term that people are looking for. If you’re trying to optimize for Tulsa cookies, let’s do a Google search for that, okay? Let’s do a Google search for Tulsa cookies. This is a lady we’ve worked with for years. Awesome stuff, neat deal, Tulsa Cookies. This is a, boom, you see our website’s top there, Merit, or Barbie Cookies, you see that? That’s her company, Barbie Cookies. Click on images now, see if she’s got any images up there. Oh, there she is, look, boom, boom, boom. It’s her company coming up top in Google because of how images are being named, okay? So name your images after the term that people are looking, the terms you are looking for. Now we’re going on to this next principle. The second principle is backlinks. And if you need to get up and do a Red Bull break or tase yourself, I know it’s a lot of technical whatnot, but it’ll get better. So backlinks, let’s get into backlinks. On backlinks, there’s basically the word backlink. The word backlink is a word that means this. It’s the basic link terminology where a backlink is any link received by a website presence from another website presence So if some other website presence links to you that is a backlink So example, you could have a backlink from a YouTube video You can have a backlink from a web page from a directory from a blog from a media publication from a website from a top-level domain from your mom’s blog from your church’s website, from somebody talking bad about you on Twitter. What? I mean, you can have all of those things to be a backlink. So what we want to do is we want to know how many backlinks we have because we need to have more sites linking to us than anyone else. And if you’re specifically after watching this, you’re like, how do I get backlinks? I can help you with that too. We can help you. We’re here to help you. We’ve got episodes coming out. You can click the Ask the Guru button and we’ll send you the stuff. But, Marshall, let’s go to SEMoz.com. SEMoz.com is a site that you have to have a subscription to if you’re serious about growing your online business. If you don’t have SEMoz, I don’t know what to do other than to tell you you’re like a baseball player without a glove and a bat. You’re like a basketball player without a ball. You’re like a hockey player without any ice, with any skates, without a stick, without a puck, you’re just up the creek without a paddle, just don’t do it. Get on seomoz.com. Does SEOmoz pay you guys? No, they do not pay me. SEOmoz, if you want to pay me, but they don’t pay me. So the thing is, SEOmoz, this tool allows you to do a couple basic things and I want to deep dive into those things. One is it allows you to go on here, we logged on and we clicked on links and it tells us how many links do we have, Marshall? 744. So you have 744 links from other sites. Well, guess what? The site with the most backlinks wins. Wins? Wins. So if you have more backlinks in your competition, you’ll win? Yes, you’ll win. So what do you need to do? Specifically, you need to get two times as many backlinks as your competition. Two times? That’s a lot of… You mean I have to run around asking people to link to my site? Yeah, you do. You mean I have to network? Yep. You mean I have to… Is there a better way? There is a better way. Click the Ask the Guru button. Marshall will help you out. The team will help you out. But I want to make sure we get this, is that you have to have more backlinks than your competition. Okay? That’s very important. Now, the other thing that the SEO Moz does is it has a thing called crawl diagnostics, which basically runs a report and it tells you what’s wrong with your site. What do you mean wrong with my site? Well, I mean, Google, we talked about it. Did the mobile phone exist seven years ago? I mean, did the smartphone of today exist seven years ago? No. Rumor has it there’s a new bendable, kind of a malleable phone coming out here. Is that, has that been created yet? Does anyone have that? No. What about these phablets? Did those exist six years ago? No. What about tablets? Did those exist six years ago? No. So the world is always changing and so Google has to always improve their search so that they can maintain credibility. So what happens is, is as Google makes changes, your site might or might not be Google compliant anymore. So a site where you were following all the rules before, it might not follow those rules anymore. So Marshall, can you point out some of the errors that this program is showing that the site has that are new errors that have popped up there? Yeah, so here at the graph is showing you how many pages are being indexed on your entire website and then how many high priority issues, high priority issues or something like the Google’s trying to crawl your site and it doesn’t work or maybe there’s duplicate page content or maybe the title is missing or empty. So it’s real quick review, you mean if you have a bad title tag or you have duplicate content like you copied text from another website that can hurt your ranking? It will kill your ranking. You will plummet like a rock and guess what? Google’s a massive computer, and so you’re not trying to trick a human. You’re trying to trick a massive, multi-billion dollar computer that doesn’t make too many mistakes. So I’m saying to you, if you don’t want to copy, do not ever copy the text from a competitor. Never do it. Don’t do it. Do not do it. Also, don’t ever build a website page and forget to make a title tag. Don’t make a title tag too long. Don’t make your descriptions too long. Don’t make your keywords too long. Don’t do any of those things too… don’t… you can’t do that. You have to do it right. Now down here it says missing… don’t click on it, but it says missing meta description tag. Go back to our source code real quick. Go back to a source code of any page. It’s fine. Now your actual meta description are these words that appear underneath the green Wizard of Saws text. So Marshall, you can highlight that. That is your meta description. Now as you write a meta description, your meta description should not be more than one to two sentences long. It should actually be a sentence that makes sense and it should involve the usage of your keywords you’re trying to optimize for. So again, we have the title tag, we have the keywords, and we have the description. Those three, the triumvirate, those three make up your metadata. And what SEOmoz is showing us, if we go back to their site, they’re showing us that, hey, we have one page that’s missing a meta description. And so Google’s going to rank you lower because you’ve chosen to miss that. That’s why we have to use a checklist. I could not be more passionate about it, okay? Now I wanna read you an awesome quote from Sergey Brin that for the founders of Google the co-founders this quote is awesome because it shows not only their humility but it also shows the mindset of Google it’s the best quote you can find from him he says some say Google is God others say Google is Satan but if they think Google is too powerful remember that with search engines unlike other companies all it takes is a single click to go to another search engine. So what he’s saying is that if their search isn’t good, you’re going to quit using them. So they have to be on the forefront of adapting to tablets and phones. And so get off the conspiracy, the black helicopter train, about how the Google algorithm is always changing. There’s all these hucksters that are going to charge you $8,000 to come out to their internet marketing get-rich weekend or whatever. And they’re going to try to convince you that Google’s changing all the time and it’s so complicated you couldn’t possibly handle it yourself. Well I’m a three-time algebra taker who took my ACT three times. I’m not a genius and I can tell you if I can do this you can do this. I can tell you I’ve worked with clients who are everywhere from landscapers to bakeries to remodelers to roofers to neurosurgeons and everybody can do this. I don’t know anybody who can’t do this. I know you can do this. And if you’re feeling overwhelmed, just reach out to us. We want to help you. But does that make sense to you? It does. And it’s going to tell you the errors and then you can fix those errors. Okay. Now the other little tool I want to point out that’s not part of SEO Moz, but it is something that pertains to what we’re doing, is Google AdWords. Now Google AdWords is going to show you how many people are searching for a specific term. And just so we’re clear, Marshall can show you across the top, highlight the very top there, the URL at the top. You go to adwords.google.com. You go up there, this is how you get there, okay? And once you get there, you can just do a basic search for AdWords keywords. You can find this up here in a… I’d like to, when we’re editing this, Marshall, I’d like to go and add that link on there so people can get the link of exactly how to get there. But if you look here, we’ve already done a search to save us the time, but we’ve typed in these terms, and notice we typed in home remodeling Tulsa. We had a hypothesis that people were gonna search for that term, but we didn’t know. I mean, how many people are using the term? We think a lot of people, but we don’t know. How many people are searching for Tulsa home remodeling? We don’t know. How many people are searching for Tulsa contractors? How many people are searching for contractors in Tulsa? I mean, I don’t know. Do you know? I don’t know. But this does know. Google’s saying to us, hey, 30 people approximately are searching for it every month. 50 are searching for Tulsa home remodeling. 50 are searching for Tulsa contractors. Marshall, can you kind of follow me with that mouse there? 20 are looking for Tulsa contractors in Tulsa. Zero are looking for home remodelers in Tulsa. So that data should begin to drive our activity. So, if you’re using Google Analytics at the front end to look for what people are looking for, you won’t waste your time driving backlinks to a site that’s optimized for the wrong terms. So, as we get into this, in a perfect linear world, you would start by looking in analytics to figure out what terms people are looking for and then you would begin going into this search engine checklist that we’re talking about today. Very, very important that we do that. Now principle number three is the amount of original content. We have to have more original content than anyone else. So if we click up here on the Wizard of Saws, we can notice, if you scroll down, look how many pages of content my main man has. He’s a thriver, he’s got a ton of content, it’s awesome. He’s got a massive amount of content. We’re talking about hundreds and hundreds of pages, potentially 20 to 50,000 words of original content on there. So it’d be very hard to compete with him. Now, the good news is that when he started his website, he had zero pages. And methodically, weekly, over time, he’s just committed, he’s blocked off time, and he’s done a little bit of an investment, a little bit of an investment, an hour a day, and over time, he’s created a massive amount of content. So you might say, how do you buy content? How do you make content? How do you do content? How do you create it? Well, one, you need to go out there and buy a Dragon headset. And we’ll add a visual of this beast on the screen, it’s called the Dragon headset. There’s other headsets out there. I love Dragon. Why? Because I actually use it. Not because I’m into the ninja theme and the Dragon references, even though that’s really cool and that’s something I’m into. And it’s sort of a, what’s the movie right now? The HBO show that everyone talks about that I’m in a vacuum and I don’t know about, it’s Game of Thrones. Yeah, Game of Thrones fans, you wanna get the dragon. It’s a great tie-in there for you. It’s a great gift for the holidays. Now the next thing though is as you’re typing, you can only type so fast. But with the dragon, you can wear a headset and talk. You mean, Clay, you have people on your team that literally just talk all day and talk into a vast abyss about nothing so that it can come up to the bottom of a page that looks like Wikipedia so that people can find your site and make a lot of money? Well, yes, except the people, you know, once they get to the site, I have to convert them, which is why we have great trainings on how to convert. But yes, I can drive people to the site by wearing a headset and spending massive amounts of time talking and turning my talk into text. Now Google has this thing that I like to call a gibberish checker or the BS detector. That’s Bachelor of Science, don’t get offended. A BS detector, but they basically are gonna check to see if what you’re typing makes sense. So before you hire your third grade cousin who isn’t really quite able to read yet to do this, you need to hire an adult or a human that can speak in an articulate way that at some point make a point in our sentences because Google will check for redundancy. They’ll check for a thing called keyword stuffing where you basically just keep saying the word. So an example would be at Wizard of Saws, we specialize in Tulsa home remodeling, which is why we love remodeling in Tulsa. In fact, Tulsa remodeling is what we do. If you do that, they’re gonna catch you. Also, if you hide the text, if you change the text to match the background of your website so it disappears, if we were to change this text from orange to black, Google would flag us. So you can’t do any of those little sneak moves because if you do the sneak moves, Google’s going to catch you. But you need to make sure that you do block off time using a dragon to turn your talk into text and to create web pages that have a total of 500 words per page. And 500 words, just to work it out again, 500 words means five paragraphs that are each five sentences each, okay? Five paragraphs that are each five sentences each, that’s 500 words. So a specific action step, I’d ask you, what are the three hours a week you’re willing to devote? And if you can’t do it, think about, okay, what are the 10 hours a week that your team could devote? And if you can’t do that, I’m gonna say, perhaps you shouldn’t be an entrepreneur, but you have to find time. So I know for me, I used to hop in my bath, I know it’s a disturbing visual, but hop in my bath, wear my headset, and I literally would type for like two, three hours every morning, every morning, because I had to get to the top of Google and I couldn’t afford to pay anybody to get there, you know? But I had sweat equity and a lot of honey badger venom inside me and it worked, okay? So that’s how you get there, though. That’s how we do it. Everybody clear on that? Dave, does that make sense? Okay, now the next thing I wanted to talk about is mobile compliance. Google is fastidious about making sure as of 2015 that sites are mobile compliant. So if you’re watching this video in 2025, who knows, they might be hologram compliant at that point. You gotta have a, your site has to have a hologram on it. But for right now, you have to be mobile compliant. So there is a website we can pull up here, Marshall. And this website here is google.com forward slash web masters, can you highlight that URL? Forward slash tools, forward slash mobile-friendly. And again, when we edit this, we’ll put that on the screen for you, but I want to make sure we’re getting this. You use this and you just put in the domain of the site and then it’s going to run a report and tell you whether it’s Google or mobile compliant or not. Click it. And it says, not mobile compliant homes. So what does that mean? That means we gotta get busy making it mobile compliant. Well, what does that mean? We have specific trainings on how to make a site mobile compliant. Like the specific, like step-by-step how to do that. We have that, okay? But for right now, you just wanna check to know whether it is or not. And as an entrepreneur, either you have to become in the new economy, in the new market, in the world of internet marketing, in the world of smartphones, you either have to be one, an internet marketing expert, or two, you have to hire one. You just have to, I mean, it’s just the deal. You know what I mean? It’s like, it’s just, you know, once they kind of invented FIRE, you know, you had to sort of know about FIRE to kind of keep up with the other cavemen, you know, it’s kind of a deal. Once they invented reading, you know, pretty soon we had to start reading to kind of keep up with other people, otherwise we’re considered to be illiterate. Now we’re kind of in this internet literacy mode where we have to learn these skills. We just got to do it. We can’t get behind. If you get behind, it’s a bad place to be. You can get caught up though. You just need some Red Bull, maybe a coffee blend. Stay focused. Now let’s go to the other report we did. We did another report and this is, oh, boom, look, man. Bootcamp Tulsa is mobile compliant. What does that mean? That means he’s going to rank higher in Google by, rumor has it, 20%. So it means that your site is now 20% farther down the list if you’re not Google compliant. So what do I do for my consulting clients? I literally am running reports round the clock to help these people, and we’re finding sites that are not compliant, and we’re helping them. What are we doing right now at Thrive15? What are you doing right now? You need to implement these tools, because I’m gonna tell you, I’m gonna give you this example, this parting thought, is I know of specifically three companies that come to my mind that have no more than $2,000 a month of monthly lease and have no more than 10 employees that are doing revenues in excess of $3 million just off of their website. So I know people that are spending $2,000 a month to office somewhere with 10 employees or less that are making $3 million a year of gross revenue just because they’re awesome at Google. And Google can absolutely change the game. And I want to tell you a funny story so it all ties in. We showed you OneRepublic. We showed you their site. Well, OneRepublic, Ryan got his record deal as a result of having the most Myspace followers. You guys remember Myspace? That was the jam. Myspace was the dude. Now MySpace is… Is MySpace still around? The thing is, the world changes. Yellow Pages used to be the boss. MacGyver used to be the show. You know? The family… Family Ties, remember that? The Jeffersons, that was the jam. The Jeffersons, I could watch the Jeffersons. It was the whole… That was the whole… I mean, that’s how it was, but it’s not that way anymore. So if you’re watching this and you’re kind of going, watch it seven times, wear it out, just watch it till the wheels fall off. I’m telling you, we need to master this skill because it has the power to change your life. And I want to go ahead and review the action items. So we’re all on the same page, the four principles that we talked about. Then I want to open up for questions that you might have there. David is one action item. Make sure your website is Google compliant. According to the checklist, we went over. Action item number one. Action item number two. Get two times more backlinks than your competition. Two times more backlinks than your competition. Action item number three. Write two times more content than your competition. And action item number four. Become Google compliant, mobile compliant. Become Google mobile compliant, or you will fall like a rock out of those Google search engine results. And we don’t want that to happen, because we like you, and we want you to beat the heck out of your competition, unless your competition’s on the site, in which case we hope you guys are first and second in Google, and there’s enough money to be split equally amongst everyone except for the people who are not on the site. I’m going to come over there and give you a boom, my friend. Thank you for being here. Boom. JT, do you know what time it is? 410. It’s TiVo time in Tulsa, Oklahoma baby! Tim Tebow is coming to Tulsa, Oklahoma June 27th and 28th. We’ve been doing business conferences here since 2005. I’ve been hosting business conferences since 2005. What year were you born? 1995. Dude, I’ve been hosting business conferences since you were 10 years old, but I’ve never had the two-time Heisman Award winning Tim Tebow come present and a lot of people you know followed Tim Tebow’s football career on the field and off the field and off the field the guy’s been just as successful as he has been on the field now the big question is JT how does he do it? Well they’re gonna have to come and find out cuz I don’t know. Well I’m just saying Tim Tebow is gonna teach us how he organizes his day how he organizes his life how he’s proactive with his faith, his family, his finances. He’s going to walk us through his mindset that he brings into the gym, into business. It is going to be a blasty blast in Tulsa, Russia. Also, this is the first Thrive Time Show event that we’ve had where we’re going to have a man who has built a $100 million net worth. Wow. Who will be presenting. Now, we’ve had a couple of presenters that have had a billion dollar net worth in some real estate sort of things. But this is the first time we’ve had a guy who’s built a service business and he’s built over a $100 million net worth in the service business. It’s the yacht-driving, multi-state living guru of franchising. Peter Taunton will be in the house. This is the founder of Snap Fitness, the guy behind 9 Round Boxing. He’s going to be here in Tulsa, Russell, Oklahoma, June 27th and 28th. JT, why should everybody want to hear what Peter Taunton has to say? Oh, because he’s incredible. He’s just a fountain of knowledge. He is awesome. He has inspired me listening to him talk. Not only that, he also has, he practices what he teaches, so he’s a real teacher. He’s not a fake teacher like business school teachers. So you’ve got to come learn from him. Also, let me tell you this, folks. I don’t want to get this wrong, because if I get it wrong, someone’s going to say, you screwed that up, buddy. So Michael Levine, this is Michael Levine, he’s going to be coming. We teach you everything you need to know here during a two-day, 15-hour workshop. It’s all here for you. You work every day in your business, but for two days you can escape and work on your business and build these proven systems so now you can have a successful company that will produce both the time freedom and the financial freedom that you deserve. You’re going to leave energized, motivated, but you’re also going to leave empowered. The reason why I built these workshops is because as an entrepreneur I always wish that I had this. And because there wasn’t anything like this, I would go to these motivational seminars, and they would never teach me anything. It was like you went there and you paid for the big chocolate Easter bunny, but inside of it, it was a hollow nothingness. And I wanted the knowledge, and they’re like, oh, but we’ll teach you the knowledge after our next workshop. And the great thing is we have nothing to upsell. At every workshop, we teach you what you need to know. There’s no one in the back of the room trying to sell you some next big get-rich-quick, walk-on hot coals product. It’s literally, we teach you the brass tacks, the specific stuff that you need to know to learn how to start and grow a business. I encourage you to not believe what I’m saying, but I want you to Google the Z66 auto auction. I want you to Google elephant in the room. Look at Robert Zellner and Associates. Look them up and say, are they successful because they’re geniuses? Or are they successful because they have a proven system? When you do that research, you will discover that the same systems that we use in our own business can be used in your business. Come to Tulsa, book a ticket, and I guarantee you it’s going to be the best business workshop ever. And we’re going to give you your money back if you don’t loan. I learned at the Academy in Kings Point in New York octa nonverba watch what a person does not what they say. Good morning good morning good morning Harvard Keel Sockton Rich Dad Radio Show today I’m broadcasting from Phoenix, Arizona, not Scottsdale, Arizona. They’re close, but they’re completely different worlds. And I have a special guest today. Definition of intelligence is if you agree with me, you’re intelligent. And so this gentleman is very intelligent. I’ve done this show before also, but very seldom do you find somebody who lines up on all counts as a Mr. Clay Clark, he’s a friend of a good friend, Eric Trump. But we’re also talking about money, bricks, and how screwed up the world can get in a few and a half hour. So Clay Clark is a very intelligent man, and there’s so many ways we could take this thing. But I thought, since you and Eric are close, Trump, what were you saying about what Donald, who is my age, and I can say or cannot say? First of all, I have to honor you, sir. I want to show you what I did to one of your books here. There’s a guy named Jeremy Thorn, who was my boss at the time. I was 19 years old, working at Faith Highway. I had a job at Applebee’s, Target, and DirecTV. He said, have you read this book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and I said no. My father, may he rest in peace, he didn’t know these financial principles. So I started reading all of your books and really devouring your books. I went from being an employee to self-employed to the business owner to the investor, and I owe a lot of that to you. I just want to take a moment to tell you thank you so much for allowing me to achieve success. I’ll tell you all about Eric Trump, but I just want to tell you thank you, sir, for changing my life. Not only that, Clay, thank you, but you’ve become an influencer. More than anything else, you’ve evolved into an influencer where your word has more and more power. That’s why I congratulate you on becoming. Because as you know, there’s a lot of fake influencers out there, or bad influencers. Anyway, I’m glad you and I agree so much, and thanks for reading my books. That’s the greatest thrill for me today. Not a thrill, but recognition is when people, young men especially, come up and say, I read your book, changed my life. I’m doing this, I’m doing this, I’m doing this. I learned at the Academy at Kings Point in New York, acta non verba. Watch what a person does, not what they say. Hey, I’m Ryan Wimpey. I’m originally from Tulsa, born and raised here. I went to a small private liberal arts college and got a degree in business and I didn’t learn anything like they’re teaching here. I didn’t learn linear workflows. I learned stuff that I’m not using and I haven’t been using for the last nine years. So what they’re teaching here is actually way better than what I got at business school. And I went what was actually ranked as a very good business school. The linear workflow, the linear workflow for us in getting everything out on paper and documented is really important. We have workflows that are kind of all over the place so having linear workflow and seeing that mapped out on multiple different boards it’s pretty awesome that’s really helpful for me. The atmosphere here is awesome. I definitely just stared at the walls figuring out how to make my facility look like this place. This place rocks. It’s invigorating. The walls are super, it’s just very cool. The atmosphere is cool. The people are nice. It’s a pretty cool place to be. Very good learning atmosphere. I literally want to model it and steal everything that’s here at this facility and basically create it just on our business side. Once I saw what they were doing, I knew I had to get here at the conference. This is probably the best conference or seminar I’ve ever been to in over 30 years of business. You’re not bored. You’re awake and alive the whole time. It’s not pushy. It’ll try to sell you a bunch of things. I was looking to learn how to just get control of my life, my schedule, and just get in control of the business. Planning your time, breaking it all down, making time for the F6 in your life, and just really implementing it and sticking with the program. It’s really lively, they’re pretty friendly, helpful, very welcoming. I attended a conference a couple months back, and it was really the best business conference I’ve ever attended. In the workshop I learned a lot about time management, really prioritizing what’s the most important. Biggest takeaways are, you know, you want to take a step-by-step approach to your business. Whether it’s marketing, you know, what are those three marketing tools that you want to use, to human resources. Some of the most successful people and successful businesses in this town, their owners were here today because they wanted to know more from Clay, and I found that to be kind of fascinating. The most valuable thing that I’ve learned is diligence, that businesses don’t change overnight. It takes time and effort and you’ve got to go through the ups and downs of getting it to where you want to go. He actually gives you the road map out. I was stuck, didn’t know what to do and he gave me the road map out step by step. We’ve set up systems in the business that make my life much easier, allow me some time freedom. Here you can ask any question you want, they guarantee it will be answered. This conference motivates me and also gives me a lot of knowledge and tools. It’s up to you to do it. Everybody can do these things. There’s stuff that everybody knows, but if you don’t do it, nobody else is going to do it for you. I can see the marketing working. It’s just an approach that makes sense. Probably the most notable thing is just the income increase that we’ve had. Everyone’s super fun and super motivating. I’ve been here before, but I’m back again because it motivates me. Your competition’s going to come eventually or try to pick up these tactics, so you better, if you don’t, somebody else will. I’m Rachel with Tip Top K9 and we just want to give a huge thank you to Clay and Vanessa Clark. Hey guys, I’m Ryan with Tip Top K9. Just want to say a big thank you to Thrive 15. Thank you to Make Your Life Epic. We love you guys, we appreciate you, and really just appreciate how far you’ve taken us. This is our old house, right? This is where we used to live a few years ago. This is our old neighborhood. See? It’s nice, right? So this is my old van and our old school marketing, and this is our old team. And by team I mean it’s me and another guy. This is our new house with our new neighborhood. This is our new van with our new marketing. And this is our new team. We went from four to fourteen. And I took this vehicle photo. We worked with several different business coaches in the past. and they were all about helping Ryan sell better and just teaching sales, which is awesome, but Ryan is a really great salesman, so we didn’t need that. We needed somebody to help us get everything that was in his head out into systems, into manuals and scripts and actually build a team. So now that we have systems in place, we’ve gone from one to ten locations in only a year. In October 2016, we grossed 13 grand for the whole month. Right now it’s 2018, the month of October. It’s only the 22nd, we’ve already grossed a little over 50 grand for the whole month, and we still have time to go. We’re just thankful for you, thankful for Thrive and your mentorship, and we’re really thankful that you guys have helped us to grow a business that we run now instead of the business running us. Just thank you, thank you, thank you, times a thousand. So we really just wanna thank you, Clay, and thank you, Vanessa, for everything you’ve done, everything you’ve helped us with. We love you guys. If you decide to not attend the Drive Time workshop, you’re missing out on a great opportunity. The atmosphere at Clay’s office is very lively. You can feel the energy as soon as you walk through the door. And it really got me and my team very excited. If you decide not to come, you’re missing out on an opportunity to grow your business. Bottom line, I love the environment, I love the way that Clay presents and teaches. It’s a way that not only allows me to comprehend what’s going on, but he explains it in a way to where it just makes sense. The SEO optimization, branding, marketing, I’ve learned more in the last two days than I have the entire four years of college. The most valuable thing that I’ve learned, marketing is key, marketing is everything. Making sure that you’re branded accurately and clearly. How to grow a business using Google reviews, and then just how to optimize our name through our website also. Helpful with a lot of marketing, search engine optimization, helping us really rank high in Google. The biggest thing I needed to learn was how to build my foundation, how to systemize everything and optimize everything, build my SEO. How to become more organized, more efficient. How to make sure the business is really there to serve me, as opposed to me constantly being there for the business. New ways of advertising my business, as well as recruiting new employees. Group interviews, number one. Before, we felt like we were held hostage by our employees. Group interviews has completely eliminated that, because you’re able to really find the people that would really be the best fit. Hands-on how to hire people, how to deal with human resources, a lot about marketing, and overall just how to structure the business, how it works for me and also then how that can translate into working better for my clients. The most valuable thing I’ve learned here is time management. I like the one hour of doing your business is real critical if I’m going to grow and change. Play really teaches you how to navigate through those things and not only find freedom, but find your purpose in your business and find the purposes for all those other people that directly affect your business as well. Everybody. Everybody. Everybody. Everyone. Everyone needs to attend the conference because you get an opportunity to see that it’s real. Everyone needs to attend the conference because you get an opportunity to see that it’s real. you
