An Interview with Oklahoma’s Lieutenant Governor (Matt Pinnell), Secretary of Commerce (Sean Kouplen), and Senator James Leewright

Public-private partnership 101. When business guys get involved in government, big things happen quickly and a terrible state mottos end.

Name: Matt Pinnell

Title: Lieutenant Governor

  1. The principal and shared constitutional responsibility of every NLGA member is to be the first official in the line of succession to the governor’s office. Lieutenant governors are the only officials with specific duties and powers in two branches of state government: the executive and legislative branches.

Name: James Leewright 

Title: Senator 

  1. Senators approve or reject gubernatorial appointments, and contribute to the creation of both state law and an annual state budget. Every ten years, they aid in drawing new boundaries for Oklahoma’s electoral districts. The Oklahoma Senate also serves as a court of impeachment.
  2. Senator Leewright has served Oklahoma for the past six years. 

Name: Sean Kouplen

Title: Secretary of Commerce 

  1. The Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce is a member of the Oklahoma Governor’s Cabinet. The Secretary is appointed by the Governor, with the consent of the Oklahoma Senate, to serve at the pleasure of the Governor. The Secretary serves as the chief advisor to the Governor on economic development and trade promotion.

Goals:

To get 100,000 people to register to show their support to privatize the operation of Oklahoma’s lakes and to get the Army Corps of Engineers to actively support partnerships

WHY?

Invest in opportunity for the lake. This is our home state and we want to make a difference in the economy. Oklahoma is falling behind compared to the rest of the nation. We want to bring increased tourism to develop cottages, marinas, etc. to bring private partnerships to the lake and re-do the landscape. 

Did you know that Oklahoma’s Top 3 Industries are oil and gas, aviation and tourism? You should also know that 33% of Oklahomans’  experience recreation on the lake every year. We are committed to bringing more opportunity to our lakes by partnering with the Corps of Engineers in Oklahoma!

  1. Flood control
  2. Water supply
  3. Hydropower
  4. Recreation
