Show What You Know

This week during our business coach meeting business coach Clay talked about the importance of taking action. He said that as the business coach it is our job to get the business coaching client moving faster. We need to get into it, meaning the initial path, faster. The initial path contains things like gathering passwords, launching the website, creating ads, etc… The initial plan is designed to get a client up into orbit and ready to scale. If we allow the client to take months to do something that should only take 60 days or less we are not doing our job. Clay emphasized that it is not nearly enough to just go over the path with the client. It is our job to enforce it. It’s one thing to know the importance of Google reviews but until you actually get reviews consistently it doesn’t matter.  When Clay said that “It’s great that you have the info now, but what are you going to do about it!” I was reminded of a saying my mom used to shout at us when we were sucking at life “show what you know!” This would often happen when we didn’t do our chores or we would be mean to our siblings and she would chastise us and we would reply “ WweE KnOoW” well, obviously that never worked. Because she was right. If we know, why we aren’t doing it. It does not matter if we know. All that matters is what we do.

This business coach principle applies to so many areas of life. Not just as my role as a business coach helping clients stay on the path. It matters in all F6 areas of my life. Faith, I know what the Bible teaches but if I don’t live it doesn’t matter at all. God won’t judge me based on my knowledge, but He will judge me based on my actions. My family will not continue to be strong unless I continue to take action and make them a priority. In finance, if I know that I need to be eating out less and saving more my account will not grow unless I actually do that. Friendships would be obsolete unless I actually took time to do something with my friends like get together or call them to chat. My fitness level will not only become stagnant but I will become weaker unless I go to the gym and DO something. Fun. If I know that going paintballing is fun it won’t actually be fun until I go out and go paintballing. 

There are some pretty knowledgeable people in the world, people with multiple degrees and a vast knowledge base, but you know what? Those people are pretty useless until they do something with that knowledge. Just because someone studied business at school does not automatically set them up for success. They will need to do a 180 switch from a life of no action (i.e. sitting in a classroom all day) to doing nothing but action all day. To be a successful person you have to be constantly moving, make adjustments along the way, but never stop moving. It’s not about knowing, it’s about doing. So get moving and get moving faster!
