One of the things that Clay focused on this week during the business coaching meetings was the fact that successful people love doing the exact same thing every single week. That doesn’t mean that your entire life has to be boring, gray, or lifeless. Unless you want it to be. This just means that in your business, you have to be willing to do the same things l, that have been proven to work, over and over again every single day. There is a very well known phrase that goes “If it is not broke… Don’t fix it…” Whoever said that first was a very smart man and was probably very successful if he stuck to that mindset. What confuses me most as a business coach is why people want to constantly change to try something new. Why would you want to do that? There is someone else out there who has already made the mistakes and screwed up so why would you want to do it again? I have learned that, if you pick people who are already, in life, where you would like to be and emulate them, you will be successful.
“Unsuccessful people get bored. Successful people bore down.”
The hunger for something new being better than what we have is a false illusion that is dangled in front of all of us every day. We see it online, hear about it from our friends, and get informed about the latest great movement by our family. This is something that we cannot stop but we can grab our blinders, set our focus on our goal, follow the successful person in front of us, and take action. Something that Clay says often in our business coaching meetings is “Unsuccessful people get bored. Successful people bore down.” This simply means that the more times you do the same thing, the more determined you get to win. This can be anything. It can be gathering Google Reviews, going on date nights with your spouse, or driving your same beater until the wheels literally fall off so that you can live below your means.
A few great examples of successful people who bore down that I have been able to see firsthand are both Clay and Dr. Z. Clay turned off his heating and air conditioning, worked 3 jobs, ate 3 $0.98 banquet meals, and worked non-stop so that he could build his company. Every day he would do the same thing and slowly gain traction. Today he owns a men’s grooming lounge with over 4,000 members and each store does the exact same thing every single day. They follow the same business coaching checklists. They are open on the same days of the week. They run the same no-brainer deal every single day. It never changes because it never breaks. Dr. Z has run his auto auction for many years now and has not changed anything except add a few extra lanes because it was so successful. He doesn’t try to re-brand or update his marketing every single year. He does the Dream 100 drop-offs every week and will never stop. He understands that it works and if he did decide to develop some new process or secret system, it would require more time that he wants to spend on the business.
Why look for new things? Why try to change often?
It is so much work to constantly try new things. It is actually easier to simply do the same thing every single day and you’re always more successful that way too. Find the person you want to be like, copy them, bore down, and repeat.
