NBA Great Teaches “Leaders are Learners” as Business Coach

NBA Hall of Famer and two-time NBA Champion, David Robinson, has teamed up with the web-based business coach and educational platform, Thrive15.com, to teach lessons on leadership. Business coach Robinson, who has made a living off of being an effective leader on and off the court explains a key component to being an effective leader which is learning.

In one of his trainings on the site, titled The Best Leaders are the Best Learners, Robinson dives into his personal journey and how it is representative of many successful businessmen and women around the world. Robinson explains, as a leader, one has to understand more fully each situation that they are leading their followers into. According to Robinson, “We should never be satisfied…And especially when we’re responsible for other people, we should take that very seriously.”

Robinson relates in the training how this principle of on-going learning combined with his passion for teaching has helped to develop something bigger. Robinson, who founded the Carver Academy in 2001, explains it best, saying, “When I get to see these children, we work with a lot of kids at Carver, I see possibilities.” Robinson has created a mission for the school aimed at training elementary-aged children to become disciplined leaders who live with integrity. A few short years after starting the Carver Academy, Robinson, co-founded the Admiral Capital Group. The Admiral Capital Group is a private equity firm with a strong portfolio that includes Centerplate, one of the top hospitality companies in the world, nine upscale hotels, and sports retailer, Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Robinson’s passion for education extends beyond the classrooms of his school and can be found through his partnership with Thrive15 as a business coach and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes Program. The partnership with the Chamber of Commerce provides practical business training for America’s military giving away one free subscription to a U.S. veteran or active-duty service member and their spouse for every paid subscription to Thrive15.

NBA Hall of Famer Gives Insight into Entrepreneurship as Successful Business Coach

David Robinson, the NBA Hall of Fame basketball player and two-time NBA Champion, has joined forces with the online business coach platform, Thrive15.com, to teach what he has learned after leaving the court. Robinson, in his training on the site, shares his experience with starting a school and co-founding a multi-million-dollar investment group. The training, titled Start Where You are with What You Have, gives the seven-foot Robinson an opportunity to share with “Thrivers” how he has overcome obstacles to get to where he is today and how learning to take the next step, whatever that may be, is crucial to establishing a successful business.

When forming his school, the Carver Academy, Robinson came to an important realization, that if he wanted to be successful as an educator, he would have to either acquire the expertise necessary to lead the organization, or surround himself with other people whose expertise would provide the best insight into creating the best school possible. Robinson recounts, “I can deal with messing up my checkbook. Messing with these kids’ lives is not acceptable.”

Robinson continues to explain in the training that passion is a prerequisite for having a successful career as an entrepreneur. If one is not passionate about the business or industry they are working in. Robinson was faced with a challenge from a prospective investor and mentor while starting the Carver Academy whose words caused discouragement, but ultimately led to deep conviction for Robinson in the endeavor.

Robinson, renewed by his passion and calling, founded the Carver Academy in 2001. He set the mission for the school to train elementary-age children to become disciplined leaders with integrity. A few years later Robinson, co-founded the Admiral Capital Group, a private equity firm whose portfolio includes Centerplate, one of the top hospitality companies in the world, nine upscale hotels, and Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Robinson’s passion for education extends beyond the classroom. A U.S. Naval Academy alumnus, Robinson and Thrive15.com, have teamed up with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes Program to provide business training for America’s military.
