How do successful people get things done on a regular basis? Thrive15.com business coach and mentor and NBA Hall of Famer, David Robinson, shares in his training, Putting First Things First, that by setting clear priorities and planning daily to align with those priorities, one can achieve success.
In his training, Business coach Robinson unpacks how he is able to get things done daily through the use of a prioritization system. Robinson in the training explains that he has determined, based on his values, that his priorities are ordered with his faith at the top, followed by family, physical fitness, finances, and relationships. Robinson shares that by taking time out of each day to look at his schedule and organize the things he is doing daily around his priorities, he is able to make trade-offs that make sense for him.
The biggest key, Robinson explains, is setting aside time daily to plan out what needs to get done. Robinson cautions to set realistic expectations for how setting a priority in one area has an effect on the productivity of other areas. As an example, Robinson points out that if someone devotes more time to family than in a business, then productivity in that business will be decreased and vice versa. For Robinson, knowing what is important helps to determine the priority and what things come first.
Robinson, as well as being an accomplished basketball player, has a passion for education and has founded the Carver Academy, a school for elementary-age children. Additionally, Robinson co-founded the Admiral Capital Group in 2007. Today, it is a $250 million private equity fund whose portfolio includes Centerplate, one of the top hospitality companies in the world, nine upscale hotels, and national sports retailer, Academy Sports + Outdoors.
