Let’s talk entrepreneurs for a minute. I work with dozens of entrepreneurs every week at our business coaching program. I talk to hundreds of entrepreneurs every month. In all reality, I prefer to talk to entrepreneurs and only entrepreneurs. If anyone knows entrepreneurs better than anyone without actually being one themselves, it’s definitely the Thrivetime Show Business coaches, myself included.
Entrepreneurship is tough. Which is why 90% of startups fail according to Forbes. If you’re thinking about starting your own company, and you want to know just how rough it can be, take it from someone who knows because they watch it and play close, close attention first hand. When trudging through the highs and lows of unfiltered entrepreneurship, it literally, spiritually, and emotionally is the best and most rewarding, exhausting, and sometimes devastating path that we love to continue taking. It’s addicting. We can’t stop reacting to the literal, spiritual and emotional addiction that continues to haunt us. It’s called entrepreneurship. The categories of the literal, spiritual, and emotional entrepreneur was one of the very first things I ever learned from Clay Clark while I was shadowing for business coaching. This is the difference in the literal entrepreneur, the spiritual entrepreneur, and the emotional entrepreneur. Maybe you see parts of each in yourself.
Literal
This one keeps you on your toes. Let’s talk about the literal aspect of entrepreneurship for a minute. The literal aspect of executing your passion project fueled by an addiction to entrepreneurship keeps you on your business coaching toes because you can’t figure out why you can’t stop tracking numbers. You don’t know why creating a checklist makes you super giddy. You can’t stop work ever. You’re addicted to the literal execution. You can’t stop working until you know your to-do list is at a manageable level because you are the literal entrepreneur and quite literally, the numbers don’t lie and the to-do list should get done so you keep going. You just love LITERALLY doing what you know will help you succeed and you like the literal, logical exercises involved in watching your profit grow as a fruit of your labor. That’s the literal entrepreneur. Count how many times I said literal in some form or fashion and I’ll send you a free BOOM book if you email [email protected] Moving on…
Spiritual
Ahhh… the spiritual entrepreneur. You don’t know why, but for some reason, your gut is telling you how to run your business, and sometimes that works. For some people, they have natural intuition, and it works out well for them to make decisions based on that. Because of that, you become, yet again, addicted to entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship for the spiritual entrepreneur means that whatever bypasses you have, or spiritual being you believe in (I am a business coaching pro who personally believes in God) is the reason for your success so you keep doing what you do best. You don’t know why. You can’t put your thumb on it. But God spoke to you and told you this is what you’re supposed to do, so you’re never walking away from it.
Emotional
The emotional entrepreneur is quite interesting. It doesn’t have to be perceived as negative, although sometimes this can be a major weakness. In many cases, these are the entrepreneurs with the biggest hearts. That’s another form of entrepreneur addiction, putting your ENTIRE heart into it. You can’t back out when your heart belongs to it. You can’t flip the love, the obsession, and the other emotions entrepreneurship puts you in.
What kind of entrepreneur are you? Are you a mix of all three? Maybe you’re 50/20/20. Maybe the opposite. Either way, learning to navigate all aspects of the addiction that is entrepreneurship helps you enjoy the ride, much more thoroughly.
