What to Look for When Hiring | Ft. Employee of the Month Will Greenway

Show Notes

When hiring employees you must look for employees who are coachable, diligent and who have the mental capacity to do the job with excellence. As an employer, it is your job to clearly define the expectations that you will accept and to hold people accountable for meeting your standards.

  • Define the expectations for your employees –
      1. NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren’t used to an environment where excellence is expected.” – Steve Jobs
  • You must hold people accountable for your standards
      1. NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Excellence honors God and inspires people. It’s a value to bring our best and then some. If someone doesn’t do what’s expected then the first time we’re going to warn them. The second time, if they don’t do it, eventually, it’s no longer their problem. It’s my problem as a leader. We are going to hold people to the highest standards. We’re not going to make excuses. People say, well, you’re supposed to be a church. You must be loving. It’s not loving to let someone do something without excellence. What we’re really trying to do is reach people. So we have high standards.” – Pastor Craig Groeschel (The New York Times best-selling author, the founder and the pastor of the largest protestant church in America with over 100,000 attendees each Sunday, and the founder of the church responsible for creating the YouVersion Bible App that has been downloaded over 350 million times
  • When hiring people high-quality people I am only looking for 3 traits:
    1. Coachability – “Talent sets the floor, character sets the ceiling.” – Coach Bill Belichick (Head coach of the New England Patriots)
    2. Diligence – DEFINITION – “The steady, earnest, and energetic effort: persevering application.”
    3. The Mental Capacity to Do the Job
