Law 45: Preach the need for change, but never reform too much at once.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Everyone understands the need for change in the abstract, but on the day-to-day level, people are creatures of habit. Too much innovation is traumatic and will lead to revolt. If you are new to a position of power, or an outsider trying to build a power base, make a show of respecting the old way of doing things. If change is necessary, make it feel like a gentle improvement on the past.” – Robert Greene

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Change before you have to.” – Jack Welch (The former CEO of GE who grew the company by 4,000%)

Use for good:

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “People have a false fondness for the good ole’ days. People like to remember the 50s as a great time in American history and they forget about the segregation and the rampant racism. People like remember their time in high school as amazing and they forget about the hours of misguided time, the feelings of loneliness they experienced when they broke up with their boyfriend or girlfriend. They want to forget about the dread of not having a date for the prom or the feeling of being cut from their sports team. As a leader, you will quickly discover that people often have violent opposition to changes and improvement in general even when facing clear facts. People will often say, “but that isn’t the way it used to be.” People hate change, and you will be attacked if you try to implement too much change too fast.” – Clay Clark

Law 46: Never appear too perfect.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “Appearing better than others is always dangerous, but most dangerous of all is to appear to have no faults or weaknesses. Envy creates silent enemies. It is smart to occasionally display defects, and admit to harmless vices, in order to deflect envy and appear more human and approachable. Only gods and the dead can seem perfect with impunity.” – Robert Greene

Use for good:

Self-deprecation is a powerful tool to learn and master.

DEFINITION – Karisma – The original greek work meant “the gift of grace.”

DEFINITION – Charisma now means – A personal magic of leadership arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure (such as a political leader).

DEFINITION – Cognitive Dissonance – The state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE – “No matter how smart you are, you will NEVER have any success at all if you are not good at managing and leading people. Regardless of how much of an expert you are at something you need to be the kind of person that leaves people feeling whole and not full of holes. You need to be the kind of person that coaches people up and doesn’t talk down to people. How you make people feel is of the utmost importance.” – Clay Clark

Your free consultation today at drivetime show.Com, alright, probation, welcome back to the conversation, is the drive time show on your radio. My name is clyde clark of the former united states small business administration, entrepreneur of the year center on a mission to get you into a great financial position or break down the 48 laws of power. The international best-selling book by robert greene had before we do that trap. I would like for you to sell to all the listeners out there still at like you’re selling a george foreman grill, so it like you’re selling any of those infomercial products like you’re selling, dehydrate the ability to dehydrate your own meat and make your own jerky still at like an as seen on tv products tell us as to why we all need to know the 48 laws of power to the 48 laws of power. What you got to know about the 48 laws of power is that this is the way people manipulate others right. Okay, and if you are tired of being manipulated, then you need to know these powers, these laws that people are using against you, so that you can vaccinate yourself and your team and hector family, your kids, whoever right, if you don’t know these, if you don’t understand how people are employing these laws of power against you, then you are subject to being manipulated by them.

So we want to teach you all 48 laws, even though you know a vast majority or over half of them. We definitely do not agree with morally as a business coaching program, but you have to understand if you have to know these, because people are using them against you and they will take advantage of you over 45 lot number 45 in the excerpt from 48 laws of power says, preach the need for change, but never reform too much at once. I repeat, one more time preach the need for change, but never reform too much at once. Okay in the abstract, but on the day-to-day level, people are creatures of habit. I want to make sure we get this on a day-to-day level. People are creatures of habit. When you go into your company and you try to change sub, you understand that people are creatures of habit. They hate change, you put them in a new office, you move their office or going to freak out. If you move to a new position, they think am I going to be fired. People really really do hate change continue to question. Do you think that being able to deal with change is one of the key mindset you have to have an entrepreneur or a business coaching program client? Yes, I see that I know that’s one of the traits that I’ve noticed about him as I’ve gotten older is that things would change all the time and he never freaked out. He never went crazy about it. He was like hey, we got stuff. We got to do anyways so back to the excerpt here. Sajak walks, the former ceo of ge, who grew the county by 4000 %. He wants said notable quotable change before you have to write change before you have to back to you till whenever everyone understands the need for change in the abstract, but on the day-to-day level, people are creatures of habit too much. Innovation is traumatic and will lead to revolt if you are new to a position of power or an outsider, trying to build a power base make a show of respecting the old way of doing things if changes necessary make. It feel like a gentle improvement on the past, repeat that last to the last two lines, one more time if change is necessary, make it feel like a gentle improvement on the past.

I absolutely agree with that, and there’s nothing I disagree with about that at all. There’s no sneaking this in there that’s the day. They just bought a business they just bought it took over the company, they just became the new manager and they go in. There went to change everything at once and they’re not showing respect for the old ways of doing things. Now. Here is something that I want to share with all this turns out, everything is as powerful when she you get this concept. Business coaching program type people have a false fondness for the good old days. How many people love to remember the 50s as a great time in american history? They forget about the segregation in the ramp racism, people like to remember their time and high school as amazing. It’s amazing how high school so awesome and they forget about the hours of misguided time. The feelings of loneliness really broke up with her boyfriend. You ever thought you were that felt pregnation with your boyfriend or girlfriend broke up with you end of the world. I remember:i talk to a girl. This is probably my junior high school and she says you know I just want you to know I think we just need a little time apart and i. Remember that statement was like i. Don’t know what that means. It was the first time in my life i. Let somebody in to know the true me and so in that person leaves, and you don’t feel good, because it’s like that’s what you put your value and I mean they want to forget about the dreadnought having a date for prom or feeling or the feeling of being cut from their sports team. As a leader, you will quickly discover that people often have violent opposition to change. It’s an improvement in general, even when facing clear facts. People often say, but that isn’t the way it used to be austin cellular intellitime, but that isn’t the way it used to be.

That’s not the way we used to file that used to file. It doesn’t work right, people, hate change and you will be attacked if you try to implement too much change too fast. So chop is an action item out there for all the stores out there. What should a listener do if they say okay I know, might companies make some pretty massive changes, but I don’t want to freak out the team. You guys are telling me what I need to do it’s very different than what I am doing where’s the balance, so you’ve got to balance that, like letting them know what’s going on right, letting the team members know what’s going on, but you’ve got to implement this principle that we talked about a lot called guys on. Yes and that’s the idea of hey we’re going to be getting 2% better, just continual improvement over time, and so when you present the changes that you’re going to be making within your organization with its friend with in that mindset, it doesn’t freak people out as much as we’re just going to keep getting better we’re growing together, we’re going to make some small changes here and there. But if you, especially when I’ve seen working with business coaching program clients as hell, we’re scaling a business we’re starting to duplicate ourselves as the business owner. So you hire a manager for the first time and they want to come in and change everything on day one day, one that cannot happen a they don’t know why you built the system is the way you did so they’re going to screw something up. Right and b is going to freak out any of your other team members like who is this person, and why are we changing everything right now can I bring this up? This is a powerful idea, you’re too perfect. True, why I’m asking you without reading the excerpt from? Why can you never appear to be too perfect if you are because people don’t like that, because nobody’s really perfect? Even if you are right and then you just seem pies, you seem like you’re a holier-than-thou, so people just don’t like to see somebody. That’s perfect, I’m, just telling you this! This is a powerful concept that all of the listeners need to to grass you’re, probably really really really good. At one thing, if you’re, not you’re, pretty or right-and the one thing you can’t do is ever come across as perfect an inside the best way to do, that is to master the art of self-deprecation, so self-deprecation chuck. Can you explain what it means when your self-deprecating person, with you pulling out your personal feelings towards that looks like yeah, you take things that you’ve messed up in the past or silly things that you’ve done and you can spend it with a little bit of humor and you can relate a concept and idea to someone you’re trying to teach by showing the chink in your own armor not pulling it out in theirs. Repeat that again, so basically, you want to take him been fused. Teaching moments are especially, if you’re having to hold somebody accountable to something one thing that works really well as to say why I know that whenever I was first doing this, you know this is the way I did and if you can mix in a little bit of humor, it makes that whole process a lot better, and so that’s how you can be self-deprecating and teach people and they’ll follow you this right here.

This idea, this lot 46 of never appearing to be too perfect, is the only reason that I am tolerable can put up with me. It’s the only reason that I just an example i. This is a funny story, but I was talking to some of the other day about a mel, gibson and mel gibson. If you think about the mel, gibson movies, think about mel gibson movies, roku, the ones he’s produced. Okay, the mel gibson movies, think about these the passion of the christ braveheart, the patriot. Yes, signs apocalypto, there’s movies, that he’s done, that are intense we were soldiers I mean obviously, as other movies he’s done, with the ones that he is actually produced are known to be intense and he also battles a problem with alcoholism. Mikey struggled with binge drinking so bill gibson know, has impossibly high standards for himself. Kobe bryant has impossibly high standards for himself. I want to make sure you understand this. This is the mark of greatness. The mark of business coaching program greatness is when you set impossibly high standards for yourself. Michael jordan has impossibly high standards for himself. There are there such high standards that when he sets the standards for himself, he feels a degree of dissonance when he doesn’t achieve his own standards, so michael jordan the best basketball player in the history of the nba. He has a tension or clash caused by his internal emotions, where he says I’m setting an impossibly high goal for myself that I can’t even possibly achieve no. This is where it gets crazy and the world looks like in the world of psychology. Cognitive dissonance is about what it means is having an inconsistency between the beliefs, one holds or between one’s actions, in one’s belief still to where you say, you believe, a certain thing, but yet you act a certain way. So when you’re michael jordan-and you want to hold yourself accountable to him-possibly intense diet, i, don’t think people realize that to understand that michael jordan ate an impossibly intense diet, dude i, don’t even realize that i, don’t think about. He was saying no to all the foods at the fans were able to eat, I mean nachos hot dogs. Beers on that stuff. How hard would that be? For the average person to get that was just a prerequisite to becoming an nba legend was eating a very manage diet.

Now we take that into okay. Now you have to have a workout regimen that is intense as well I mean he was insanely sculpted because of the work he spent in the gym right. So now you have some possibly high standard for your diet and it possibly high standard for your for your practice. What is impossibly high business coaching program standard for his performance on the court troy’s after games? Michael jordan was like upset about it because he feel like he let the team down michael jordan with input those standards on other people, two other key, couldn’t even look up to his own standard and said he would put those standards on other people, and this is where it gets. Weird is mel. Gibson is famous for his freak out swear. He just absolutely loses his mind at people on the court. He loses his mind and it in the thing is, is that he was. He was so intense that in a practice, he’s practicing was steve. Kirk and steve kerr played with michael jordan for several years, and he basically now that he’s now the coach of the the warriors, the golden state warriors, but he was a player on michael jordan’s team, get it to play the nba level as a 6-foot. Nothing guys, a super small. You I mean steve kerr was a grinder, have an impossibly high works work ethic right, which I called him out for not being intense enough and so in practice. Steve kerr throws a punch at jordan after jordan punches and throws a punch at him, they’re fighting each other and practice for not living up to their own standards. Until we come back from the break, we’re going to break down why it’s so important to never appear too perfect during the break write down the word, self-deprecation write down the word self-deprecation when you write down the word, self-deprecation I think you’ll finally kind of understand why it is absolutely so important for all successful leaders of a scaling business to become very good at the art of self-deprecation.

If I can do it, I know you can too, but you must stick to it like posted two and one morgan’s on the chorus singing what he sings. As you two three big dreams today is your day and now is your time. Is your time? Welcome back to the thrive time show have a business question. Email is today and info at drivetime, show.Com and clay and dr. Z. When answer your business questions live on the air, alright, probation, walking back to the conversation, is the drive time show on your radio when they were breaking down the 48 laws of power by the international best-selling author robert greene, but before we do that eric chuck. Can you come explain two listeners just tuning in what are the 48 laws of power book all about, and why should everybody listening so this book is all about the robbery and studied and look at what? What are these power moves? That people are implementing now he’s not saying he endorses. All of these is not saying he’s telling you you should go. Do them he’s saying that these are the moves that people are using against you every day in business and life? Whatever the situation is you disagree with any of these move, so yeah yeah, quite a few of them, were previously out., one particular you think about it. I would say if you go back to when you read any of them that say the word deception, the seat, victims, i, don’t subscribe fully to the to the whole concept of those you’re. Not make me feel bad, but a lot of people really do not care right at all about what they have to do to become business coaching program successful, they’re willing to do anything. It takes example, you’re, a bicycle race you’re out there trying to win the bicycle race of entrepreneurship and the person you’re competing against is on steroids.

Now, whether you want to admit it or not, they do or not. I mean lance armstrong, who won the most tour de france, was ridiculous, some of the guys getting older and winning thought it was that barry bonds and mark mcgwire hitting a record amount of homeruns in his forties. His head grew against that are using deception, I and i. I just want to make sure that you’re not walking through the minefield of life going frolicking around going everybody, everything so great lost a leg and you’re shocked by this, and so I would just encourage you. If you are listening today-and you don’t like these laws of power, it’s probably cuz you’re a good person, probably because you have moral clarity in your life example in 1986 at the age of 21, barry bonds hit 16 home runs, 1987 hit 25 1988 at the age of 23 he’s at 24 and your mind. Are you at your physical prime number 2424? He at 1925 e at 3326 e 25 home runs 27 or day 2016 at 25, 827-834-2846 829 830-718-3833 wait for it and we go 8:31 and it’s 42. This all makes sense. Okay, 832 hits 4833 hit 3734, he hits 34 835e, it’s 49 boom 830-549-8835, its 49 home runs 836. He hit 73 come on 8:37. He hits 46 838. He is 45 age 39, he hits 45. Something seems to be an outlier in there. He’s hitting more home, runs at the age of 40 than a 24 year old 25 year, old, 26 or I would just say this is it you are competing, be out there. Mr. business coaching program Entrepreneur, mrs. Entrepreneur with people that are absolutely use in the 48 laws of power for their game. Solutely. Absolutely. You have to know that this is how they process lifepoint. Please read a lot 46 and the notable cordova that corresponds with a 46 never appear to perfect, says appearing better than others is always dangerous, but most dangerous of all is to appear to have no falls or weaknesses and be creative, silent enemies.

It is smart to occasionally display defects and admit to harmless vices in order to deflect envy and appear more human and approachable. Only gods and the dead can seem perfect with impunity right. So this is. This is so important that you get this. You have to use self-deprecation that the move, if you’re going to become successful now original greek word curry smell spell:karisma meant the gift of grace. That’s what charisma meant the gift of grace in today’s translation. Now the word is charisma, charisma, charisma, nail means a personal magic of leadership, arousing special popular loyalty or enthusiasm for a public figure. I would argue this when you have a conversation, no matter what no matter how smart you are. You will never have any success at all if you are not good at managing and leading people, regardless of how much of an expert you aren’t something you need to be the kind of person you need to be the kind of person that leaves people feeling hole and not full of holes. You need to be the kind of person that coaches people up and doesn’t talk down to people. How you make people feel is of the utmost importance chop. Why is it so important to all the listeners out there, especially the really smart ones that aren’t having any success? Yet? Why do they have to make sure that they I think about other business coaching program people when communicating well, nobody wants to be around or work with, or for somebody who is up on mount awesome, all by theirselves and always talking down at people right. You need to look like you just said there is you’ve got to go, help coach up your teammates. You got to build them up with you and, like we talked about earlier, the absolute best way to do that is through the self-deprecation self deprecation deprecation. Maybe you could use her or somebody could use it there, they’re struggling with the concept of kind of making fun of yourself yeah.

So I talk about this when I was 5 I’m talking about hiring I used to view hiring whenever I ran the concrete company as a one-time event, because I was an idiot because I know that you know. Of course this one higher is not going to solve all my problems, but I didn’t know how to have the experience. I learned all the moves from up here at thrive yet, and so I can relate that way and talk about how I didn’t know how to hire back whenever I was doing the same kind of things, they’re doing right now, but again, you’re not talking to them, as though they’re mildly retarded. They don’t know this right. You’re, talkin, sprint’s of hey I personally used to struggle with this I didn’t know it either, but now that I do I know that it works. Now. Let me teach you how to make sure that the that you get this mr. Whiskers driver misses driver whenever I explain to people about time management. I often refer to my time spent at target I’m, going to work at target, the big box retailer I struggled mightily to be on time when I say struggled, I chose everyday extra, 20 minutes of sleep as opposed to getting up early enough to get to work on time, and so, as I got older and I realize that you know what that’s I would rather the way I feel when I wake up before I want to is not as bad as the way I feel when I get to someplace late and don’t honor my commitments I so I had to learn this skill overtime, but I don’t appear to be a perfect manager of time. We never went through a time of my life where I had to learn a new skill, and we come back with a lot number 4747 to be I’ll. Be enough. The number of homeruns hit kevin mitchell hit when playing for the san francisco giants in 1989. I know this because there was a time in my life when I used to play video games all day before being in the business coaching program. I used to play it all the time, I used to think that somehow my score, my high score that I setup, my own nintendo console mattered and maybe you’re listening out there, maybe you’re, saying to yourself:i, am playing way too much video games because we go back. This is a powerful move from the 48 laws of power from robert greene
