It turns out that the secret of happiness is minimizing the amount of time that you’re with people that you don’t choose to be with. So this is just math. This is just statistics. So you’re not a fan of Burning Man, I’m guessing. I’ve never been to Burning Man, but yeah, I don’t think I would like it very much. Maybe if I had my own armored compound that was fully air-conditioned, it would just keep people out. Some shows don’t need a celebrity narrator to introduce the show. But this show does. In a world filled with endless opportunities, why would two men who have built 13 multi-million dollar businesses altruistically invest five hours per day to teach you the best practice business systems and moves that you can use? Because they believe in you. And they have a lot of time on their hands. They started from the bottom, now they’re here. It’s the Thrive Time Show, starring the former U.S. Small Business Administration’s Entrepreneur of the Year, Clay Clark, and the entrepreneur trapped inside an optometrist’s body, Dr. Robert Zunich. Two men, eight kids, co-created by two different women, 13 multi-million dollar businesses. We started from the bottom, now we’re here. We started from the bottom and we’ll show you how to get here. Started from the bottom, now we’re here. We started from the bottom, now we’re here. We took flight, started from the bottom, and now we’re at the top, teaching you the systems to give. What we got, Colton Dixon’s on the hooks. I break down the books. She’s bringing some wisdom and the good looks. As the father of five, that’s why I’m alive So if you see my wife and kids, please tell them hi It’s the C and T up on your radio And now 3, 2, 1, here we go! We started from the bottom, now we here We started from the bottom and we’ll show you how to get here Started from the bottom, now we here We started from the bottom, now we here We started from the bottom, now we here We started from the center of the universe, and the thrive50.com world headquarters. Let’s go! Presenting the world’s only business school without the BS, with optometrist and entrepreneur Dr. Robert Zellner, and the Horace Hall Business Administration Entrepreneur of the Year in your ear, Clay Clark. It’s The Thrive Time Show on Trump Radio 1170. Three, two, one, boom. Ah, Thrive Nation, boom, boom, boom, and boom. Welcome back to The Thrive Time Show on your radio. Now, it is typically ecstasy when Dr. Z is next to me, but today he is still recovering. Jonathan, did you see Jonathan Kelly, by the way? Jonathan Kelly on the show today. He manages the execution of many of the action items, in fact, all of the action items for the Thrive Time coaching clients. Right now, we’re coaching over $2.4 billion of business out there. Get out of town with a B. With a B, billion. And John, at our Christmas party, were you at all shocked to see Dr. Zellner’s dance moves? I wasn’t shocked until that last part there. The special move? The special move. I knew he could bring it, I just didn’t know he could bring that. Can you explain to the Thrive Nation what you saw, what you witnessed with your eyes? I guess the split-stastic would be the word that would come to my mind immediately. Splits-tastic. He’s still recovering, so he’s not on the show today. Yeah, he’s still, his body’s recovering from his traumatic victory, the emotional victory, the physical, he just, he overcame. The metaphysical victory. Chuck, it’s like people that just won the Super Bowl, their bodies are sore and yet there’s a euphoric sense about them. Right. So he’s recovering. He should be back on next week’s shows. But today, my friends, we’re talking about a topic that I think has the potential to irritate some listeners. And so I tread not lightly. I tread like an elephant in a China shop. China shop. Here we go. So this is how to deal with your enemies. So how to deal with your enemies. Playing your enemies like a game of chess. Asperger’s and why you must plan on paper all the way to the end. Have you ever felt something fishy? Have you ever noticed… Did you say felt or smelt? Have you ever noticed a… felt. Oh, okay. Have you ever noticed a human in your office all of a sudden meeting with somebody who doesn’t work in your office alone with a shut door? That happens. Have you ever noticed an increased tension or a cloud of dis-ease that seems to be surrounding everybody in your office? Or somebody in your office? Have you ever noticed that people tend to minimize windows when you walk into the room? Have you ever noticed they’re in the office less and less? Have you ever noticed patterns of them talking to former employees of yours? Walking outside on the phone? Have you ever noticed a marked decrease in their energy or excitement around the office or the job they want or are passionate about. Have you ever noticed these things where you feel like you’re on the verge of getting screwed? Because you are on the verge of getting screwed. And when you do know that you’re getting screwed as a business owner, there are five action steps that every single business owner, if you have ever been screwed or you’re ever going to be screwed or you ever were once screwed, what you need to do is you need to go to thrive timeshow.com today and click on the podcast and make sure you share this with a friend because this right here is the hot sauce that you have to deal with if you are the boss. The five things that are going to happen. One, Chuck, the US Chamber of Commerce estimates that 75% of employees are stealing from you. This is cited on the Thrive Time Show podcast notes. CBS News, US Chamber, organizations got together to do the research. Does that at all shock you that 75% of employees are stealing from you? That’s right at or near three quarters, I believe. Three out of every four. And what you have to realize is that it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re putting things in their pockets and walking out. In my opinion, if employees are on company time and on the clock and they’re not working or working towards a goal that the company has, that’s theft as well. That’s money right out of the business. Well, you’re a former business owner, so you’re hardcore. Yeah. But let’s just say literal taking of items, 75%. John, does that shock you? It doesn’t anymore. It would have a couple years ago, but after managing a lot of people, I’m a little bit more realistic. Jaded John. So here are the five action steps to deal with nefarious enemies in a game of business. What does nefarious mean? Nefarious means wicked, criminal, or intentionally causing harm. For those of you from Boston, that’s like Wicked Awesome, right? This is wicked, like bad, not as in cool beans, criminal, or intentionally trying to cause harm. So move number one, you got to play your enemies like a game of chess and think many moves ahead. You’ve got to play your enemies like a game of chess and think many moves ahead. So currently, right now, right now, I am being screwed by at least three people that I can remember off the top of my head right now. Three where they’re taking cash. Oh, they’re taking cash. And I hope they’re enjoying that cash because soon there won’t be any more. But they’re taking cash. And then you have the person who’s, you know, stealing clients for one of our companies. And I hope they’re enjoying that because soon they won’t anymore. And you have somebody else who’s kind of plotting, plotting a kind of a a coup, if you will, like, hey, let’s all get together and create problems. And it never ends. I’ve been in business now for so long, it’s never done. In fact, I met a guy about five years ago, and he says, hey man, you wouldn’t believe, we have a lot in common, I’m an entrepreneur, you’re an entrepreneur, right? And I said, yeah, we are. He says, this is a guy that I held in high esteem that I know from church. And he says, you know how entrepreneurship’s all about seeing opportunities, right? And I said, yeah. And he goes, I was actually working for a huge company years ago and I noticed that I was the only link between our biggest client and my boss and so I took all of the business and now I have a huge company and they are in the Christian industry. They work with churches. Well, that’s what Jesus would do. And I told the guy, you are a disaster. But that’s what people do. And he thought it was awesome. And he still to this day doesn’t feel bad about it. So how do you do the justification? This is how I do it. I’m not asking you to 100% endorse this idea. But John, did you go to Victory Christian Center for a while? Did you not? Yeah, I went there from sophomore year to… I graduated from there. Did you? Yeah. Do you approve of this? I’m sure there’s a diploma somewhere. We need to see it. Well, okay, have you ever read verses in the Bible where it talks about destroying the enemy? Probably. I couldn’t cite it, so I wouldn’t want to say anything. Okay, I tell you, when we come back, I’m going to give you some Bible verses on destroying the enemies. But what happens is, in the Bible, there’s actually verses where it talks about there’s a time to kill, there’s a time to love, there’s a time for… there’s all different seasons, right? Chuck, have you ever read the Bible and never noticed that there are verses that talk about there’s a time to love, there’s a time to kill? Yes, I do remember those. I do remember those. John, have you heard these kind of verses? Yeah. Okay, and does it shock you that God himself would say that there is a time to love, a time to kill? Ecclesiastes 3.3. There’s a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down, and a time to build. Does that seem shocking to you that the God of the universe and the Bible would say that? Well I don’t know where it is in the Bible but there is a story where Jesus goes through the temple and just destroys everything. Do you remember that? Flips over the tables. Yeah, just goes nuts. There’s a thing called a righteous anger and so it is the righteous anger that I believe the United States used to destroy Hitler. And you’re not going to destroy Hitler, kind of. You want to blow him up. This is the deal with ISIS. I don’t want to meet ISIS and get to hang out with them. Now here’s the deal with ISIS. If you’re going to fight a terrorist organization, are you going to tell them, like, hey guys, just so you know, we’re spying on you and we’re going to sneak in on Tuesday at 4 a.m. and that way you guys won’t see it coming? No. Right? I would say that you would want to be peaceful with them right up until the end, until you blast them. So playing chess, if you ever played chess before, you do really well in the game of business if you’re somebody who’s all about keeping it simple. I’ll just tell you what, I’m just gonna tell my enemy and there’s enough room out there for everybody in this marketplace and I’m just gonna be super transparent with people who are screwing me over. And that’s a really good, if you want to play the checkers of business, it’s really easy to play checkers in the game of business, until one night your competition breaks into your office after it’s closed and they flip over the game board. Now we’re playing chess. Now we’re getting into it, okay? So here’s the deal. I’m just going to give you my example of being screwed with my first business, DJ Connection. So I started DJ Connection, I hired a guy by the name of Zeke. You’re slamming a person. Yeah, it’s a reputation. I’m not going to mention his last name, but you can figure it out. So Zeke, he decides to skip a wedding. He didn’t go to a wedding for a bride or a groom. They paid us to do their wedding. He promised he’d be there. He just didn’t go. I’m sure he had something better, right? Honestly, John, that make you crazy? Yeah, absolutely. I can see the anger on his face. Both, as the manager that makes me angry and then just as a consumer if you put yourself in that like you paid somebody to do a service and then all of a sudden they’re just like meh. Then we had a different guy named Josh, not Josh Smith, who skipped a wedding to impregnate a woman. He told me years later, hey just so you know, our kid actually was conceived on that night. That’s when the first time Clay punched a kid. So working on this, I did not punch a kid. This is someone I went to college with, both of these guys I went to college with. John, would you continue that relationship after you, you know, somebody skipped a wedding and you got sued? No, not at all. Okay, next one. Another guy named Josh. I put him in charge of managing our team while I go on a cruise. And guess what he does? He hires random people that I’ve never met before to manage the, he’s the manager, and he hires other people to manage for him while he’s gone so he could have a great weekend. Seems like a pattern with Josh’s. That’s what I’m learning. A guy by the name of Sean. He went to a wedding and argued with the father bride, not Sean Elliott. If you know Sean Elliott, he’s a great guy. A different guy named Sean, though. Sean, he absolutely screwed me. He’s not the one that had the father of the bride take apart the floor. Was that that guy? No, that would be a man by the name of Carl. How about that Carl? But not, not the Carl Warner, a different Carl. So all I’m saying is, I have been screwed so many times I can’t remember them all. And all I know is that if Jesus Christ had 12 apostles, and of those 12 apostles, both Peter, Peter denied him, right? And Judas turned him in for some gold coins. If Jesus, the best leader in the history of the planet, got screwed 2 out of 12 times, what chance do I have of not being screwed more than that? Chuck? So here’s a little tip. If you find yourself in this situation, and back to point number one here, you’re playing a game of chess and you’re thinking many moves ahead, you have to know that these emotions are going to come when this happens. Oh my gosh. Yes. And if you don’t know that they’re going to come, that’s when they can control you. So you have to understand the fact that there’s going to be some emotions attached when you get screwed. Stick to the long-term goal. Those chess moves that you’re playing ahead, focus on those. Those are your long-term goals, so don’t get emotional and react to that situation. Plan out your response. So here’s how I handled it with Zeke. I went ahead and said, Zeke, you know what? I forgive you. I need you to go and do that show tomorrow. He said, oh my gosh, I thank you for this opportunity. He went out and DJed that show on that Sunday and I fired him on Monday. Because what would have happened if you fired him Saturday night? I would have missed two events. Or you would have had to go do it if you weren’t already booked or whatever right? It’s right, and I did the same move with both Josh’s and you say you’re two-faced. That’s why people that’s why people think you’re a jerk That’s right. We think you’re a jerk for skipping weddings. Mr. Person out there And I don’t want to skip over this because this is something I’m really guilty of so like when I find out that someone’s trying to steal from us or screw the company like I don’t know how Many times I’ve come to you clay and been like we have to fire them right now like they are just terrible people, we’ve got to get rid of them. But and you know I’m like the guy that wants to just fire them and then we’ll figure it out. But you can’t do that because then somebody like you as the business owner are going to have to end up doing whatever it is they were doing. Ten all-nighters, whatever. Well it gets really really bad when you have hundreds of employees if you can’t get over that because you’re always going to be screwed by one person. I just want to make sure you understand this. Right now, while we’re doing this show, somebody in one of the companies is screwing me. In fact, just the other day, we had a client who had some members of his team come in and record a podcast, and they just sat there and said horrible things about him and me the entire time. True. Really? Not doing the podcast. He’s asked by his boss to do a podcast for search engine optimization and then takes the time to rip on his boss, thinking his boss won’t listen to the podcast. Unbelievable. If you’ve ever been screwed, you want to stay tuned. It’s the Thrive Time Show on your radio. If you’ve not yet subscribed to the podcast, do it today by going to thrivetimeshow.com and clicking on the ball team, holla back. Now we got black cards, good credit and such. Baby boy, take it back. Live, local, presenting the world’s only business school without the BS. Get ready to enter the Thrive Time Show. You just want attention. You don’t want my heart. Baby, you just think about me when I’m so under. Yeah, you just wanna touch me I’ll do from the start You’re just making sure I’ll never get ahead of you So I can do it Thank you, Charlie Puth, for the segue right there. The song is You Just Want Attention, right? The song Attention. You ever heard that song, Attention? And he says, you just don’t want me to get over you you just want attention Well, we’re talking today about how to deal with your enemies, and I am going to walk you through my proven steps Remember I’ve been self-employed by and large for 21 years. I’m 37. I’ve been doing this since I was 16 So I’ve been self-employed longer than I haven’t been and I remember in middle school, DJing school dances, and my buddy said, I will be there, I will be there, you can count on me, Thursday night, I’ll bring over the speakers, I’ll be there, you can rent them from me, I’ll be there, because you can count on me, and he didn’t show up. Well, screw you, Jake. Right? I remember that happening, though. Well, screw you. And I remember, I remember this, I remember this, the DJ business. Guys I went to college with saying hey, man, the DJ connections taking off We’d I’d love a job too. I’m working at Charleston’s working at Charleston’s restaurant I only make $100 a night after tips, you know, and you’re I hear you’re paying your guys $200 I said, yep, I’m paying all the DJs $200 per show more than you can make anywhere else because I Want to pay my guys well So that they’ll treat me right because I want to pay people and treat people out of the way I want to be treated. I want to pay people. I remember Zeke missing that wedding, not showing up. Well, screw you, Zeke. He’ll take away that Z and it’s just eek. And I remember a guy by the name of Josh, not Josh Smith, who paid him and he skipped Misty’s wedding at the 11th and Garnett Moose Lodge. And he lied to me about it. And then years later when he had a kid as a result of that altercation, that romance, he then said to me, hey you know what, our kid actually was conceived at that time. You know, I just want to let you know. Screw you! So the thing is, if you are going to be in business, please understand this, you are going to be sued and screwed. So you’ve got to learn these five moves. But here’s the thing, the people screwing you, they can’t figure it out because they don’t see black and white. They see gray areas. They’re all about, hey, here’s the deal. You don’t understand. I had to do it for the money. You know, I had to do it because I needed the money. I needed any of the money right now. I had this unique situation. You know, my wife or my wife, they guys love to do that. Well, my wife just told me she can’t. You know, I should start my own thing. They always love to have that thing. And they’re walking around outside your building on their cell phone, making their whisper calls, plotting your demise. Screw you guys. Ted, screw you. Nix, screw you too. Screw you guys. Caleb, screw you. All you guys, screw yourselves. You know why? Because you guys knew what you were doing. Cousins, family, relatives, screw all y’all. You know why? Because at the end of the day, I’m still here and I have been here for a long time now. This is 21 years I’ve been here. And somebody out there, listen, you need to hear this. Because you are running your business and you have not read Ecclesiastes 3.3 in the Bible yet. Which says, there’s a time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build. And if you don’t understand that idea, that you can forgive them, but if they’re going to attack you, there are many, many verses, and I will share them with you during today’s show that would give you the perspective. Even Jesus flipped over the tables. To my knowledge, Jesus did not say screw you on AM radio. But Jesus was screwed. I mean, he had 12 disciples of which two Peter turned him, Peter denied him, right? He said, one of you guys will deny me three times before the rooster crows. Peter did it. And then Judas turned him over for some coins, John. Yeah, and if you want to go back even further than that, God was attempted to be screwed by Lucifer, who at the time was his right-hand man, his angel, right? And now he’s better known as the devil. So even God was like, somebody was like, I’m going to try to screw God. That’s a great idea. So one verse, when I know I’m being screwed, I’m going to walk you through the five action items. One verse that I read for good luck, it’s kind of a way to wake myself up, it’s kind of like my go-juice here, Chuck. This is what gets me going. It’s 1 Samuel 15, 3. Alright, let’s hear it. Now go attack the Amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them. Do not spare them. Put to death men and women, children and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys. That’s pretty explicit. Right. So all I’m saying is, one, if you are being screwed, please play the game of chess. So in chess, what do you do? You let your opponent move. You even offer a pawn. In chess, you say, hey, here’s my pawn. Here’s my little pawn. I dare you to take it. And then when you take the move, you’ve already thought about it. And then you get to say, checkmate, bam. Boom. Or you’re fired. So move number one, you’ve got to play your enemies like a game of chess and think many moves ahead. John, what am I missing here? I think a lot of people I think there’s somebody out there who’s super emotional right now because somebody in your office just screwed you and you want to make that Emotional move what am I missing? What maybe are things that you’ve seen me do that? I’m not communicating Yeah, I would just say like we were talking about earlier is you know if you’re in the act like somebody’s actively screwing you What you want to do is you want to go up to them deck them in the face and say you’re fired I never want to see you again, right? again. But you can’t do that. You have to stuff those emotions deep down inside and you have to fire them when all of your puzzle pieces are in place. Chuck? So one thing I’ve seen you do actually multiple times is when this situation arises, you’ll pull one of your A players over, somebody that you know is loyal and is committed to you, and you’ll use it as a teaching moment, as somebody that may be in management for you soon. There’s two reasons I do that. You know what it is? Let’s hear him. One is I use it as a teaching moment. That is true. It’s very that’s that’s 80 percent of what yeah. The second is I hope that the message gets to the other party. And if it does it, then I know I can trust it. Oh. So I do it to see where my enemy is my enemy. Well I’m glad I think I’ve passed that test twice. You have, but I’m just saying you’ve watched it happen in the building. Yeah, I have. So, and I’m just telling you, I had a rule, this was something I did. We had a guy named Nix who used to go out the back of the building all the time. Nix is like a nickname, no one could possibly have the name Nix, right? So anyway, so it wasn’t like more than one Nick. Right. It was a, it was Nix plural, right? It was a funny little inside joke here. But anyway, so we were at the Riverwalk, and I made the rule, you can’t go out the back door because they were leaving the door open, John, and taking home those drives, those little orange drives. Yeah, like $400, $800, whatever. Lacy drives. They’re taking home those portable hard drives. They’re taking home all their equipment. And I want to make a point, there’s one point of interest for the building. Also, we had a guy coding. Remember him? He used to get on his cell phone and walk out the back door over there, John. So I said, I want everyone going through this entrance here. And then guess what? I caught the guy going out the wrong door. And you know what he was doing, John? Screwing us. And so what I did is I pulled members of the team aside. I said, here’s the deal. Someone goes out that door again, like it’s a huge issue, huge issue. And I want to make sure if they go out that door again, you tell me. I want you to tell me if they go out that door again. And I told that person, that fabulous website guy, I told that if he goes out that door again, you tell me, because I know that I can trust you. And then right away, that guy comes up to me within a day and says, did you tell someone to monitor me and micromanage me to make sure I’m not going out that door? And I’m like, that’s right, and you probably saw me do it. I said, you’re both fired. Right. Because you have to play the game of chess. So if you’re really upset right now, one… It’s the Thrive Time Show on Trump Radio 1170. Three, two, one, boom! Ah, Thrive Nation, boom, boom, boom, and boom! And you have somebody else who’s kind of plotting a coup, if you will, like, hey, let’s all get together and create problems. And he goes, I was actually working for a huge company years ago, and I noticed that I was the only link between our biggest client and my boss. And so I took all of the business, and now I have a huge company. And they are in the Christian industry. They work with churches. Well, that’s what Jesus would do. And I told the guy, you are a disaster. But that’s what people do. And he thought it was awesome, and he still to this day doesn’t feel bad about it. Oh, so… Have you ever read verses in the Bible where it talks about destroying the enemy? Probably. I couldn’t cite it, so I wouldn’t want to say anything. Okay, I tell you what, when we come back, I’m going to give you some Bible verses on destroying the enemies. There’s a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build. Does that seem shocking to you that the God of the universe and the Bible would say that? Well, I don’t know where it is in the Bible, but there is a story where Jesus goes through the temple and just destroys everything. Do you remember that? Flips over the tables. Yeah, just goes nuts. There’s a thing called a righteous anger. And so it is the righteous anger that I believe the United States used to destroy Hitler. And you’re not going to destroy Hitler, kind of. You want to blow him up. This is the deal with ISIS. I don’t want to meet ISIS and get to hang out with them. Now here’s the deal with ISIS. If you’re going to fight a terrorist organization, are you going to tell them, like, hey guys, just so you know, we’re spying on you and we’re going to sneak in on Tuesday at 4 a.m. and that way you guys won’t see it coming. No. Right? I would say that you would want to be peaceful with them right up until the end until you blast them. So playing chess, if you ever played chess before, you do really well in the game of business if you’re somebody who’s all about keeping it simple. I’ll just tell you what, I’m just going to tell my enemy and there’s enough room out there for everybody in this marketplace and I’m just going to be super transparent with people who are screwing me over. And that’s a really good, if you want to play the checkers of business, it’s really easy to play checkers in the game of business until one night your competition breaks into your office after it’s closed and they flip over the game board. Now we’re playing chess. Now we’re getting into it, okay? So here’s the deal. I’m just gonna give you my example of being screwed with my first business, DJ Connection. So I started DJ Connection, I hired a guy by the name of Zeke. You’re slamming a person. Yeah, it’s his reputation. I’m not gonna mention his last name, but you can figure it out. So Zeke, he decides to skip a wedding. He just skipped. He didn’t go to a wedding for a bride or a groom. They paid us to do their wedding. He promised he’d be there. He just didn’t go. I’m sure he had something better, right? Honestly, John, John, John, that make you crazy? Yeah, absolutely. I can see the anger on his face. Both, as the manager, that makes me angry. And then just as a consumer, if you put yourself in that, like you paid somebody to do a service and then all of a sudden they’re just like, meh. Then we had a different guy named Josh, not Josh Smith, who skipped a wedding to impregnate a woman. He told me years later, hey, just so you know, our kid actually was conceived on that night. We figured it out. That’s when the first time Clay punched a kid. So let’s work on this. I did not punch a kid. But I mean, this is someone I went to college with. Both of these guys I went to college with. John, would you continue that relationship after you, you know, somebody skipped a wedding and you got sued? No, not at all. Okay, next one. Another guy named Josh. I put him in charge of managing our team while I go on a cruise. And guess what he does? He hires random people that I’ve never met before to manage the, he’s the manager and he hires, he hires other people to manage for him while he’s gone so he could have a great weekend. Seems like a pattern with Josh’s. That’s what I’m learning. A guy by the name of Sean, he went to a wedding and argued with the father bride not Sean Elliott if you Know Sean Elliott. He’s a great guy a different guy named Sean though Sean he absolutely Screwed me. He’s not the one that had the father of the bride take apart the floor was that that guy? No, that would be a man by the name of Carl Yeah, how about that Carl, but not not the Carl Warner a different car different Carl So I’m saying is there are I have been screwed so many times I can’t remember them all. And all I know is that if Jesus Christ had 12 apostles, and of those 12 apostles, both Peter, Peter denied him, right? Peter and Judas turned him in for some gold coins. If Jesus, the best leader in the history of the planet, got screwed two out of twelve times, what chance do I have of not being screwed more than that? Chuck. So here’s a little little tip if you find yourself in this situation you’re in back to point number one here You’re playing a game of chess and you’re thinking many moves ahead You have to know that that these emotions are going to come when this happens Oh my god, if yes, if you don’t know that they’re gonna come that’s when they can control you So you have to understand the fact that there’s going to be some emotions attacked when you get screwed Stick to the long-term goal those chess moves that you’re playing ahead focus on those. Those are your long-term goals So don’t get emotional and react to that situation. Plan out your response. So here’s how I handled it with Zeke. I went ahead and said, Zeke, you know what? I forgive you. I need you to go and do that show tomorrow. He said, oh my gosh, I thank you for this opportunity. He went out and DJ’d that show on that Sunday and I fired him on Monday. Because what would have happened if you fired him Saturday night? Then I would have missed two events. Or you would have had to go do it if you weren’t already booked or whatever, right? Right. And I did the same move with both Joshes. And you say, you’re two-faced that’s why people that’s why people think you’re a jerk that’s right we think you’re a jerk for skipping weddings mr. person out there and I don’t want to skip over this because it’s something I’m really guilty of so like when I find out that someone’s trying to steal from us or screw the company like I don’t know how many times I’ve come to you clay and been like we have to fire them right now like they are just terrible people we’ve got to get rid of them but and you know I’m like the guy that wants to just fire them and then we’ll figure it out. But you can’t do that because then somebody like you as the business owner are gonna have to end up doing whatever it is they were doing. Ten all-nighters whatever. It gets really really bad when you have hundreds of employees if you can’t get over that because you’re always going to be screwed by one person. I want to make sure you understand this. Right now while we’re doing this show somebody in one of the companies is screwing me. In fact, just the other day, we had a client who had some members of his team come in and record a podcast. And they just sat there and said horrible things about him and me the entire time. True. Brilliant. I’m doing a podcast. He’s asked by his boss to do a podcast for search engine optimization and takes the time to rip on his boss, thinking his boss won’t listen to the podcast. Unbelievable. If you’ve ever been screwed, you want to stay tuned. It’s the Thrive Time Show on your radio. You just want attention, you know from my heart Baby, you just think I’m gonna love me when I’m so under Yeah, you just want attention, I knew from the start I’m just making sure Thank you Charlie Puth for the segue right there The song is you just want attention right the song attention you ever heard that song attention And he says you just don’t want me to get over you you just want attention. Well, we’re talking today about how to deal with your enemies. And I am going to walk you through my proven steps. Remember, I’ve been self-employed, by and large, for 21 years. I’m 37, I’ve been doing this since I was 16. So, I’ve been self-employed longer than I haven’t been. And I remember in middle school, DJing school dances, and my buddy said, I will be there. I will be there, you can count on me. Thursday night I’ll bring over the speakers. I’ll be there. You can rent them for me. I’ll be there because you can count on me. And he didn’t show up. Well, screw you, Jake. Right? I remember that happening though. Well, screw you. And I remember this. I remember this. The DJ business. Guys I went to college with saying, hey man, the DJ connection’s taken off. I’d love a job too. I’m working at Charleston’s working at Charleston’s restaurant I only make $100 a night after tips, you know, and you’re I hear you’re paying your guys $200 I said, yep, I’m paying all the DJs $200 per show more than you can make anywhere else because I Want to pay my guys well So that they’ll treat me right because I want to pay people and treat people that I don’t do a I want to be treated I want to pay people and I remember Zeke. We’ll take away that Z and it’s just E. And I remember a guy by the name of Josh, not Josh Smith, who paid him and he skipped Misty’s wedding at the 11th and Garnett Moose Lodge. And he lied to me about it. And years later, when he had a kid as a result of that altercation, that romance, he then said to me, hey, you know what? Our kid actually was conceived at that time. You know, I just want to let you know, screw you. So the thing is, if you are going to be in business, please understand this. You are going to be sued and screwed. I needed the money right now. I had this unique situation. You know, my wife, well, my wife, guys love to do that. Well, my wife just told me she can’t, you know, I should start my own thing. Because you are running your business and you have not read Ecclesiastes 3.3 in the Bible yet which says there’s a time to kill and a time to heal a time to tear down and a time to build and if you don’t understand that idea that you can forgive them but if they’re going to attack you there are many many verses and I will share them with you during today’s show that would give you the perspective even Jesus flipped over the tables. To my knowledge, Jesus did not say, screw you on AM radio. But Jesus was screwed. I mean, he had 12 disciples, of which two, Peter turned him, Peter denied him, right? He said, he’s one of you guys will deny me three times before the rooster crows. Peter did it. And then Judas turned him over for some coins. John. Yeah. And if you want to go back even further than that, God was attempted to be screwed by Lucifer, who at the time was his right-hand man, his angel, and now he’s better known as the devil. So even God was like, somebody was like, I’m going to try to screw God. That’s a great idea. So one verse, when I know I’m being screwed, I’m going to walk you through the five action items. One verse that I read for good luck, it’s kind of a way to wake myself up, it’s kind of like my goat juice here, Chuck, this is what gets me going, is 1 Samuel 15. All right, let’s hear it. You even offer a pawn in chess. You say, hey, here’s my pawn, here’s my little pawn, I dare you to take it. And then when they take the move, you’ve already thought about it, and you get to say, checkmate, bam, boom. Or you’re fired. So move number one, you’ve got to play your enemies like a game of chess and think many moves ahead. John, what am I missing here? I think a lot of people, I think there’s somebody out there who’s super emotional right now because somebody in your office just screwed you and you want to make that emotional move. What am I missing? What maybe are things that you’ve seen me do that I’m not communicating? Yeah, I would just say like we were talking about earlier is, you know, if you’re in the act, like somebody’s actively screwing you, what you want to do is you want to go up to them, deck them in the face and say, you’re fired and I never want to see you again. Right. But you can’t do that. You can’t. You have to like stuff those emotions deep down inside and you have to fire them when you have some like when all of your puzzle pieces are in place. Chuck. So one thing I’ve seen you do actually multiple times is when this situation arises, you’ll pull one of your A players over, somebody that you know is loyal and is committed to you, and you’ll use it as a teaching moment. As somebody that may be in management for you soon. There’s two reasons I do that. Do you know why that is? Let’s hear them. One is I use it as a teaching moment. That is true. It’s very that’s that’s 80 percent of what. Yeah. The second is I hope that the message gets to the other party. And if it does it, then I know I can trust it. Oh. So I do it to see where my is he is gossiping, who’s who’s because a friend of my enemy is my enemy. Well, I’m glad I think I’ve passed that test twice. You have, but I’m just saying, you’ve watched it happen in the building. Yeah, I have. So, and I’m just telling you, and this was something I did. We had a guy named Nix, who used to go out the back of the building all the time. Nix is like a nickname. No one could possibly have the name Nix, right? So anyway, so. It wasn’t like more than one Nick. Right, it was Nix plural, right? It was a funny little inside joke here. But anyway, so we were at the Riverwalk and I made the rule, you can’t go out the back door because they were leaving the door open, John, and taking home those drives, those little orange drives. You know? Yeah, like 400, 800 bucks, whatever. Lacy drives. They’re taking home those, there’s like portable hard drives. They’re taking home all their equipment, and I want to make a point, there’s one point of interest for the building. Also, we had a guy coding, remember him? He used to get on his cell phone and walk out the back door over there, John? Yeah. So I said, I want everyone going through this entrance here, you know? And then, guess what? I caught the guy going out the wrong door and you know what he was doing, John? Screwing us! And so what I did is I pulled members of the team aside. I said, here’s the deal. Someone goes out that door again, like it’s a huge issue. Huge issue. And I’m like, that’s right. And you probably saw me do that. I said, you’re both fired. Because you have to play the game of chess. So if you’re really upset right now, one, Take a deep breath, get up early tomorrow morning, and make out your game plan. When we come back, we’re going to talk to you about the next move, the next action step you have to have to deal with nefarious enemies in the game of business. We’re having a happy, happy show right before Christmas about firing your enemies Presenting the world’s only business school without the BS with optometrist and entrepreneur dr. Robert Selner and USSB a entrepreneur of the year clay Clark Understand nothing was done for me I won’t say never mind, never mind, never mind Don’t be fooled People are either for you or against you Watch out for the friends of your enemies Friends of my enemies are my enemies I hate that they pretend to be a friend of me Friends of my enemies are my enemies I hate that they pretend to be a friend of me Keith was his name, a friend of a friend. Nice to meet you, the right people, so we got right in. He had a sad story about being left alone to raise himself while his parents were home. You see, he worked a Chick-fil-A full of the minimum bucks, and his friends told him I had the Midas touch. So I taught him the ways, and I showed him the systems. And then one day he showed them treacherous symptoms, coming to work late, always whispering on the phone Minimizing the screen when I walked up in the zone I could feel the tension, caught it with a knife Caused by dissonance, festering in his life He was fooing me, and he was taking my clients But to the bitter end, he was lying and defiant Then I saw a man of worth and for a fake friend, man And that’s when I realized their ultimate plan Friends are my enemies, all my enemies I hate that they pretend to be a friend of me Friends of my enemies, all my enemies, I hate that they pretend to be a friend of me I went with the wheeling all day, what the words he said But when he used to tackle the details, that’s what made his business dead I worked with him through the ups and downs, but he tried to play me like I was a bozo clown Made me go to the loo for hours with the shut door policy Married man meets with woman and it bothered me Then the whispers increased, the presence decreased And then with one big poof, the friendship deceased They started their own partnership which was largely defensive But they played D2 which was very defensive What did they do? Oh what did they say? We would never ever want to hurt DJ Klay It came out they was screwing me and taking my clients But through the bitter end they went lion in the finals Then after work hours they moved out in bands And that’s when I realized their ultimate plan Friends are my enemies, are my enemies I hate that they pretend to be a friend of me Friends are my enemies, are my enemies I hate that they pretend to be a friend of me Like watching all the TED Talks, my experience was just a haze And as they created a whistle of culture, so I nixed out the ways Like Stuart Little, they all started out small Until the numbers 13 fall for their fall. David after him was the friend of the sin. He loved the sin so much that he let her move in. Sleep speaking with the enemy was the title of the show. While the former husband was watching from the first row. Now speaking strictly from an aerial perspective. Didn’t like her to go around the match, she’s defected. Christ forgives you and he forgives your sins. But the vengeance of the Lord is on what I depend. It all starts with the greed until they become glutton. Random fact of the word glutton rhymes with huttin’. So with all due respect, I invite you to respect. Deuteronomy 32, 35. You should check. Friends are my enemies, are my enemies. I hate that they pretend to be a friend to me. Friends are my enemies, are my enemies. I hate that they pretend to be a friend to me. You have enemies? Good. That means that you’ve stood up for something sometime in your life. Winston Churchill. I learned at the Academy at King’s Point in New York, acta non verba. Watch what a person does, not what they say. Alright Thrive Nation, on today’s show we’re going to be breaking down what Robert Kiyosaki has recently been talking about. Robert Kiyosaki, the bestselling author, the New York Times bestselling author and real estate investment guru, has recently been talking more and more about acta non verba. You say, what’s acta non verba? Well, one, it’s Latin, so don’t get too concerned there. But it’s acta, again, it’s acta non verba. What it means is action. You need to watch what people do and not what they say. That’s the idea. Watch what somebody does and not what they say. Hi, I’m Ryan Wimpey. And I’m Rachel Wimpey. And the name of our business is Kip Topper. Our business is a dog training business. We help people with behavioral issues and teach their dog how to listen. When I was learning to become a dog trainer, we didn’t learn anything about internet marketing or advertising or anything at all. Just dog training. And that’s what’s so great about working with Clay and his team because they do it all for us. So that we can focus on our passion and that’s training dogs. Clay and his team here, they’re so enthusiastic, their energy is off the charts. Never a dull moment, they’re a threat. We’ve been working with Clay and his team for the last five months, two of which have been our biggest months ever. One, our biggest gross by 35%. Clay’s helped us make anything from brochures to stickers, new business cards, new logos, scripts for phones, scripts for email, scripts for text messages, scripting for everything. How I would describe the weekly meetings with Clay and his team are awesome. They’re so effective. It’s worth every minute. Things get done, we’ll ask for things like different flyers, and they’re done before our hour is up. So it’s just awesome, extremely effective. If you don’t use Clay and his team, you’re probably going to be pulling your hair out, or you’re going to spend half of your time trying to figure out the online marketing game and producing your own flyers and marketing materials, print materials, all the stuff like that. You’re really losing a lot as far as lost productivity and lost time. Not having a professional do it has a real sense of urgency, and it actually knows what they’re doing when you already have something that’s your core focus and you already know how to do it. You would also be missing out with all the time and financial freedom that you would have working with Clay and his team. We would recommend Clay and his team to other business owners because they need to be working on their business, not just trying to figure out the online game, which is complex and changing daily. So, no one has a marketing team, too. Most people don’t, and they can’t afford one. And their local web guy or local person that they know probably can’t do everything that a whole team and a whole floor of people can do in hours and not just weeks or months. There’s a definite sense of urgency with Clay and his team. I used to have to ride other web people, I mean really ride them to get stuff done, and stuff is done so fast here. There’s a real sense of urgency to get it done. It’s great. Alright Thrive Nation, on today’s show we’re interviewing a real entrepreneur that’s having real success. Now again, Robert Kiyosaki talks about it all the time, but Robert Kiyosaki, the best-selling author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, he’s been on our show, I’ve been on his show. He talks about how at the end of the day it’s about what you do, not what you say. You need to watch what people do, not what they say. And so if you’re out there today and you’re saying, you know, my business is stuck, I don’t know if I have what it takes to grow it. I hope you find a lot of encouragement from today’s guest because he is a very normal person. He’s a diligent doer and he’s somebody who reached out and we’ve been able to help him grow his business and I’m super excited to have him on today’s show. Sean, tell us who we’re interviewing on today’s show, sir. So this is Cody Ellis, the owner of Tri-Peak Construction based out of Reno, Nevada, who has been with us for about one year and grown his company by a hundred and seven percent using a whole bunch of things that we helped him implement that we can talk about today. All right, Cody Ellis, welcome on to the Thrive Time Show. How are you sir? I’m doing great. Thanks for having me on. So how did you originally hear about the Thrive Time Show or the business coaching, the business growth coaching that we provide? A friend of mine with OSS, Organized Storage Solutions, recommended you. At the time, he kind of gave me the breakdown of what you guys did and it was a lot of money at the time when we were talking about it. But me and my wife discussed it. She’s my CFO, and we decided to give you guys a shot. Well, you know, what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna pull this up so our listeners can see this, because I think this helps put a little bit of visual meat on the bone, so to speak, here. When we work with clients to help them grow their business, we walk people through what is a 14-step linear workflow. And for clients, sometimes they might not think about it this way, but this is how I look at it, is it’s almost like puzzle pieces that have to come together. And if we do it right, out comes a successful company. And so we charge people $1,700 a month to help out our clients. That’s what we charge, $1,700 a month. And we operate at a 20% profit margin. So we make $340 a month per client. I’d like to ask you, with your business, can you tell the listeners out there what exactly do you do and what’s your website so people can prove you’re not a hologram? So my name’s Tripeak Construction and Design. I’ve been building a franchise called Rocket Fizz, Soda Pop, and Candy Shop since 2008. I didn’t get my California contractor’s license till 2015 when the franchise went on undercover boss. And ever since then, I’ve been mainly doing it. These franchise buildouts all over the United And pretty much I have been relying on other work to get me jobs. And I wasn’t getting good jobs. I was just kind of scrambling. And, you know, this year I finally, I kind of finally figured it out because you guys helped me organize my whole company. I felt like I was floating, like not going anywhere, struggling, angry. I feel like I have a good, strong foundation right now. So that’s where you guys help me. Well, it’s interesting you say that. I appreciate you being so honest about it because I know a lot of people, a lot of my wonderful clients, we have one client in particular I’m thinking of right now, he lost an incredible amount of weight over the last year. And I saw the guy and I said, man, you look great. And he goes, well, I have a business coach that helps me grow my business. So I figured I should probably have a fitness coach. And the fitness coach got him on a diet that made sense and a workout plan that made sense. And he really had tremendous transformation. And so if you’re out there today and you feel stuck, don’t feel stuck, but there’s a linear path you have to go down. If you go to tripeaconstruction.com, tripeaconstruction.com, you can see the website, but there’s a linear path you have to go down to grow your business. We’ll walk you through this, folks. If you’re listening out there today, you can do it. So first off, you have to establish your revenue goals. Now, I’m not going to ask you on the show here what your revenue goals are, but do you in your mind have revenue goals at this point? I mean, do you have those kind of solidified in your mind there, sir? Yes. Okay. And so me and my wife, we do. Go ahead. No, I didn’t mean to cut you off. We do a breakdown. We do a breakdown, um, like our goals this year. Um, like right now mine’s getting more employees. That’s going to be my next step. You know, I have my office. Um, I do have a couple of independent contractors, but finding good, solid employees that I can keep busy all the time is definitely going to be my goal this year. And if we look at your website, I mean, you build a, you know, you build, you actually do remodeling and you do a good job. But let me pull this up so people can see this here. I mean, this is not, you know, people pay you to actually go in there and to remodel and do construction and you do a good job. I mean, at tripeakconstruction.com. Now again, I’m not asking you on this show, but as I mentioned to our listeners, you know, we operate at a 20% margin. So if I charge someone $1,700 a month to grow their business, I make a $340 a month profit. In your case, do you have in your mind what that profit percentage should be there, sir? I’m not trying to ask you like, paint you on the… I’m not trying to ask you like the specific number, but I mean, when you do jobs now, do you have a better understanding, you and Sean, as far as the profit you’re making per job, I guess? Is that? Yeah, we’ve seen the job audit system, which is allowing us to make corrections project to project when it comes to our profit. But I think your gross profit per job was somewhere around 30% this year. Does that sound right? Yeah, my local jobs, I average around 30% profit. And then the franchise jobs, I average about 60 to 70%. And the reason why I mention this is so many people feel bad about being profitable. And I always tell people, you know, we charge people $1,700 a month to grow their business. And they make a $340 a month profit and people that come to our office, they meet our graphic designers, our photographers, our web developers, our online ad folks, our consultants, and they go, wow, there’s 45 people that work here. Oh, that’s where the money goes, because everybody who works here gets paid and we do all of that for that monthly fee that we charge. Now, as far as box three, determining the number of hours that you work per week, I know you and Sean have helped to design a schedule that’s always changing, it’s always in flux with every client we have, they’re always optimizing their schedule. We move on to box four, defining your unique value proposition. Did you and Sean work together to register your Google Map and optimize the website there at Cody? Did you guys work on that together? Yes, so my company was based out of my home and I realized that Google doesn’t, you know, I’m a general contractor working out of my home doesn’t look very professional And he coached me and pushed me to get an office pretty much the first part of our Coaching and it’s helped me tremendously Now what happens is for about that doesn’t know I’m gonna give like five examples rapid-fire so people can see this okay So we’re gonna do a search right now. We’re gonna type in carpet cleaning quotes, and this is a brand, full disclosure, I’ve worked with Oxifresh to help them grow their business. And anybody out there that buys an Oxifresh, I make $5,000 every time we sell one, okay? So we’ve sold over 500 Oxifresh franchises. And here’s the secret sauce here. We, there’s many things we do, we have 274,000 Google reviews. We’re the highest reviewed company on the planet right now. So if you type in carpet cleaning quotes, we come up top in the search results. If you go to Joplin Gyms, full disclosure, just so we’re clear, each one of these gyms, I make about $300 a month per gym they have open, okay? So just to be clear, they’ve got six gyms now open, so I make about $300 per month per gym they have open. So there’s, you know, so you type in Joplin Gyms, look, Co-Law Fitness has 10,000 Google reviews. I mean, wow, okay? And am I biased to endorse them and promote them? Absolutely. Why? Because I get about $300 per gym they open. Let’s look at this one. Let’s type in Tulsa men’s haircuts. I’m just giving a lot of examples. For all of these, you have to have a registered, verified Google map, and you have to have an optimized website. There we are, coming up top again. We don’t come up top in the search results because I’m a good guy. We come up top in the search results because we’re following a good system. I think that’s one of the struggles that I’ve had in my life is to see great people like you, Cody, who have a business that’s not ranking, and I have a passion to help them get more leads, but yet the client sometimes doesn’t want to do the things needed to succeed. I’m like, I need you to get a Google map and to have an optimized website. And the client, not you, but certain clients will say, yeah, but my sister made the website on Wix and she spent all weekend on it and I got this out of my house and I don’t want to register a Google Map and my cousin made the video and I don’t want to change it because I don’t want to offend him and my husband made the online ads and my wife did this and they’re like they’re loyal to dysfunction. What would you say to anybody out there as far as how it’s impacted your business having an optimized website and optimized Google Map? My phone rings off the hook. I have a hard time keeping up with all the calls I get. That is the move. Okay. So we move on. We’re looking at the system here. This is again, so what’s the secret sauce? Well, this is like Sean having a menu, me sitting down with a skilled man or woman who’s a cook. And I go, what’s the secret ingredient that makes these cookies so great? Tell me now! And they go, well, you gotta have all the ingredients. Yeah, but tell me the one! Tell me the one! Like, well, if you don’t have eggs, then you’re screwed. You don’t have flour, you’re screwed. You don’t have chocolate chips, and there’s no chocolate chips in the chocolate chip cookies. And, well, yeah, but tell me the one! That’s all a lot of people wanna do. It’s not one thing, it’s a puzzle, it comes together. Okay, and what we do with business growth is it’s like bumper bowling for business. We make sure you don’t throw gutter balls. All right. So improving the branding, we talked about that. Optimizing the website. If you’re out there today and you feel overwhelmed, don’t feel overwhelmed. We will help you. Three-legged marketing stool. Sean, you guys have worked to create a three-legged marketing stool and a lead tracking system so that you actually track the leads that come in. I want to get Cody’s take and then your take on this, Sean. Cody, how has it helped you having a tracking sheet where you know where the leads are coming in from? That’s huge. Sean has helped me. I mean, I was, like I said, I was floating around writing it on a piece of paper, I’ll lose the paper. Now that I have an actual tracking sheet and I can see, you know, where last month, where, you know, last year, it’s 100% helped me. You know, I don’t use the word life-changing lightly. I don’t just throw out, oh, that’s life-changing. But there are a few things in my life that are life-changing. I’ll give you an example. When I read Rich Dad, Poor Dad, that book changed my life. Implementing the book changed my life, it really did. When I married my wife, the one thing about my wife that I found that it’s it’s wonderful for me in my life Is my wife is an incredible mom. I mean just an awesome mom There’s a great job with the kids and she’s also very faithful very loyal and there’s there’s you know There’s just certain benefits to being married who he who finds a great wife finds a great thing. I mean, it’s it’s a powerful It’s a biblical concept But you know, you could also have like a bad life change, you know You could also find the wrong woman you can find the wrong business consultant. You can read the wrong book. That’s the danger of taking advice from people that don’t know what they’re doing. Now we have at Thrivetimeshow.com, if you go to the website now, as of today, almost 2,100 video testimonials from wonderful people. I got to ask you, even though your friend referred you, Cody, did you go to Thrivetimeshow and look at some testimonials? Was that sort of your path a little bit before you decided to call us? I actually bought your book, Start Here, with the Marlboro Red. So that’s where I started with you. I’m not much of a podcaster myself, but I have been. Sean’s been texting me links to watch and listen to, but yeah that’s yeah your book is where you know um and just so you know my mom will probably watch this but the reason why I made the cigarette Marlboro cover was that I believe entrepreneurship is something that is dangerous and it’s addictive meaning that I know a lot of people are addicted to the idea of entrepreneurship and they go from one failed idea to the next and I know of other people that are doing it and they succeed in entrepreneurship. It’s an addictive thing and it can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. So again, I’m glad you read that book. And we move on. The call script. You guys have worked on a call script. Sean, what happens when a client you’re working with, when you give them an internship, but they will not do tracking and they will not use a script. What happens? Well, first, it makes it very difficult for me to help them because we don’t actually know what’s going on in the business. That’s the main thing that happens there. And again, I just want people to see this again. If you go to my newest book, A Millionaire’s Guide, again it’s called A Millionaire’s Guide, you can download it for free at thrivetimeshow.com, thrivetimeshow.com forward slash millionaire. You can download it for free. It’s A Millionaire’s Guide. The reason why I wrote this is because, I don’t know, I don’t know of a lot of people that know what they’re talking about. And so I felt like people needed a guide on how to become sustainably wealthy, not like a get-rich-quick scheme. And in that book, I talk a lot about this, and specifically on page five, you got to have a call script, you got to have recorded calls, got to have a one-sheet, got to have pre-written emails, got to have a lead tracker. You guys are doing that. Now once you do a good job, you got to make sure you’re tracking your expenses and your income. Now, from what I understand is that Cody’s been super coachable on that, tracking the income and the expenses. Cody, has that been helpful for you to be intentional about tracking income and expenses? 100%. We wouldn’t know how much I was profiting without that. I mean, that was huge. Materials. I was losing a little bit of money on materials and not charging enough. And I seem to be, I seem to go above and beyond with my customers as far as like little things, you know, people try to take advantage, but you just got to do it. And then I’ll just keep getting more referrals from them. So. getting more referrals from them. So yeah. Now we, many other things that we do together. I mean, we run the online ads. We help with the online reputation management. You do a great job of gathering objective reviews from your happy customers. We manage the online ads. There’s a lot of other things that we do with you each and every week. But I’d like to ask you this kind of in closing, for anybody out there that is on the fence about coming to a workshop or becoming a one-on-one coaching client, we do offer a free 13-point assessment they can schedule at Thrivetimeshow.com, but if you had to describe the coaching experience and what it’s done for you in maybe a line or two or you know final 60 seconds here, how would you describe what the business coaching has done for you and your business, sir? I mean I’m I wake up every day with, you know, just a peace of mind that it’s going to be a great day as long as I follow the steps and, you know, just go by, just look at your agenda that you guys send me. And I kind of just follow that every day. And then I take down my notes. I’m old school. I’m on a – I don’t sit in front of a computer much, but I like to write everything down, and I keep my folders with me, and make my phone calls, and that’s it. And what would you say to anybody out there that’s thinking about scheduling a 13-point assessment? What would you say to anybody out there that’s a business owner that’s thinking about scheduling a free consultation? Why wouldn’t you? You know if you want to grow your company. It’s a it’s a no-brainer as you would say No brainer Cody Ellis. Thank you for carving out time for us and anybody out there watching today. Please be encouraged I don’t mean this is a backhanded compliment, but Cody’s a very normal person. He’s a hard-working guy He’s a trustworthy guy’s a diligent guy is he perfect to know am I perfect know what I’m saying is if you’re out there today You have the tenacity and the capacity needed to become successful. This could be your year, but you gotta take the first step. Go to thrivetimeshow.com, schedule that free 13-point assessment again at thrivetimeshow.com. Cody, thank you so much, sir. Hope you have a great rest of your day. Thank you, Cody. Hey, thank you guys. Appreciate it. See ya. Bye. I learned at the academy in Kings Point, New York, octa non verba. Watch what a person does, not what they say. But money is just a tool. Money is like a hammer, money is like a tire, money is like a sock, money is like a car. You could use a car for bad things, you could use a hammer for bad things, a lot of people could kill someone with a hammer. You could kill someone with a sock if you wanted to, you could kill someone with a tire if you wanted to. But there’s a lot of creative thoughts going through people’s minds right now. But the thing is, is that money is just a a magnifier in the first Timothy chapter 6 10 reads? For the love of money is the root of all evil Which while some coveted after they have erred from the faith and appears themselves through with many songs And so what happens is is that money is a magnifier? And so if you’re somebody who’s greedy and nefarious and will throw somebody under the bus to make an extra dollar, money’s going to allow you to be more of a greedy personality type that will throw somebody under the bus for a dollar. That’s what money will allow you to do. The number of new customers that we’ve had is up 411% over last year. We are Jared and Jennifer Johnson. We own Platinum Pest and Lawn and are located in Owasso, Oklahoma. We have been working with Thrive for business coaching for almost a year now. Yeah, so what we want to do is we want to share some wins with you guys that we’ve had by working with Thrive. First of all, we’re on the top page of Google now, okay. I just want to let you know what type of accomplishment this is. Our competition, Orkin, Terminex, they’re both 1.3 billion dollar companies. They both have two to three thousand pages of content attached to their website. So to basically go from virtually non-existent on Google to up on the top page is really saying something. But it’s come by being diligent to the systems that Thrive has, by being consistent and diligent on doing podcasts, and staying on top of those podcasts to really help with getting up on what they’re listing and ranking there with Google. And also, we’ve been trying to get Google reviews, asking our customers for reviews. And now we’re the highest rated and most reviewed Pest and Lawn Company in the Tulsa area. And that’s really helped with our conversion rate. And the number of new customers that we’ve had is up 411% over last year. Wait, say that again. How much are we up? 411%. Okay. So 411% we’re up with our new customers. Amazing. Right. So not only do we have more customers calling in, we’re able to close those deals at a much higher rate than we were before. Right now, our closing rate is about 85%, and that’s largely due to, first of all, like our Google reviews that we’ve gotten. People really see that our customers are happy, but also we have a script that we follow. And so when customers call in, they get all the information that they need. That script has been refined time and time again. It wasn’t a one and done deal. It was a system that we followed with Thrive in the refining process. And that has obviously, the 411% shows that that system works. Yeah, so here’s a big one for you. So last week alone, our booking percentage was 91%. We actually booked more deals, more new customers last year than we did the first five months of last year from before we worked with Thrive. So again, we booked more deals last week than the first five months of last year. It’s incredible, but the reason why we have that success is by implementing the systems that Thrive has taught us and helped us out with. Some of those systems that we’ve implemented are group interviews. That way we’ve really been able to come up with a really great team. We’ve created and implemented checklists and when everything gets done and it gets done right, it creates accountability. We’re able to make sure that everything gets done properly both out in the field and also in our office. And also doing the podcast like Jared had mentioned that has really really contributed to our success, but that, like I said, the diligence and consistency in doing those and that system has really, really been a big blessing in our lives and also, you know, it’s really shown that we’ve gotten a success from following those systems. So before working with Thrive, we were basically stuck. Really no new growth with our business and we were in a rut. The last three years, our customer base had pretty much stayed the same. We weren’t shrinking, but we weren’t really growing either. Yeah, and so we didn’t really know where to go, what to do, how to get out of this rut that we’re in. But Thrive helped us with that. You know, they implemented those systems, they taught us those systems, they taught us the knowledge that we needed in order to succeed. Now it’s been a grind, absolutely, it’s been a grind this last year. But we’re getting those fruits from that hard work and the diligent effort that we’re able to put into it. So again, we were in a rut, Thrive helped us get out of that rut. And if you’re thinking about working with Thrive, quit thinking about it and just do it. Do the action and you’ll get the results. It will take hard work and discipline, but that’s what it’s going to take in order to really succeed. So we just want to give a big shout out to Thrive, a big thank you out there to Thrive. We wouldn’t be where we’re at now without their help. I learned at the academy in Kings Point in New York, acta non verba. Watch what a person does, not what they say. Why would I want to help somebody to scale a company if I get 2%? Because when they grow, then you win too. Right, it’s a win-win. It’s called Shalom. Look it up folks. The Shalom. It’s a biblical concept the idea of a win-win It’s not a zero-sum negotiation. Okay, if you’re out there, you’re a decent person you have a soul you want to create a Shalom Relationship a win-win relationship with your partner. So I make more as my clients make more that’s how that works It’s a win-win kind of thing. So that’s that’s the idea And again James people go to thrive time should I come they can request a ticket? We let them name their price and we do these conferences every two months. Every two months we do a business conference. And you’ve met these people, James. I do. And you know what? I’ve met them when they came in and their business is struggling and I’ve seen how they’ve transformed after a few months. It’s like getting a haircut, you know, when you go in and you look real dirty and you come out and you look like the top of the world. Money is the magnifier. And acta non verba. This idea that acts, not words. OK. It’s all about action and gaining traction. It’s not about just learning new concepts because knowledge without application is meaningless, to quote the great Napoleon Hill. James, you’re a beautiful man. You smell terrific. I can’t wait for people to see you at our in-person workshops again, folks. Get those tickets at thrivetimeshow.com, thrivetimeshow.com. They’re two days, they’re interactive. We open up the doors at 7 a.m. We go until about 3 p.m. each day. We do a 30-minute teaching sprint, a 15-minute Q&A session, and then we break, and then we do 30 minutes of training, 15-minute Q&A, and then we break, and then 30 minutes of training, and then 50. So you’re gonna learn branding, marketing, search engine, all these things. And then, James, we have helicopter rides. We do the helicopter rides from time to time. We have, I think we’re roasting a pig at this next. I’m not sure when you’re gonna hear this podcast, but we have a roasting a pig. We’re giving away cash prizes, we’re giving away… It is a blasty blast, folks. It’s like the opposite of business college. It truly is business school without the BS. James, again, you’re almost like a benefit we should add to the package. When people go to Thrivetimeshow.com, it’s like… And you get to meet James. So get those tickets again, folks, at Thrivetimeshow.com. James, I really do appreciate you joining me today. And folks, again, get those tickets at Thrivetimeshow.com. I don’t see people with these words. Watch what a person does, not what they say. I’m Rachel with Tip Top K9 and we just want to give a huge thank you to Clay and Vanessa Clark. Hey guys, I’m Ryan with Tip Top K9. Just want to say a big thank you to Thrive 15. Thank you to Make Your Life Epic. We love you guys, we appreciate you and really just appreciate how far you’ve taken us. This is our old house. This is where we used to live a few years ago. This is our old neighborhood. See? It’s nice, right? So this is my old van and our old school marketing. And this is our old team. And by team I mean it’s me and another guy. This is our new van with our new marketing and this is our new team. We went from four to fourteen and I took this beautiful photo. We worked with several different business coaches in the past and they were all about helping Ryan sell better and just teaching sales, which is awesome, but Ryan is a really great salesman, so we didn’t need that. We needed somebody to help us get everything that was in his head out into systems, into manuals and scripts and actually build a team. So now that we have systems in place, we’ve gone from one to 10 locations in only a year. In October 2016, we grossed 13 grand for the whole month. Right now it’s 2018, the month of October. It’s only the 22nd. We’ve already grossed a little over 50 grand for the whole month, and we still have time to go. We’re just thankful for you, thankful for Thrive and your mentorship, and we’re really thankful that you guys have helped us to grow a business that we run now instead of the business running us. Just thank you, thank you, thank you times a thousand. The Thrive Time Show two-day interactive business workshops are the world’s highest rated and most reviewed business workshops because we teach you what you need to know to grow. You can learn the proven 13 point business system that Dr. Zellner and I have used over and over to start and grow successful companies. When we get into the specifics, the specific steps on what you need to do to optimize your website. We’re gonna teach you how to fix your conversion rate. We’re gonna teach you how to do a social media marketing campaign that works. How do you raise capital? How do you get a small business loan? We teach you everything you need to know here during a two day, 15 hour workshop. It’s all here for you. You work every day in your business, but for two days you can escape and work on your business and build these proven systems so now you can have a successful company that will produce both the time freedom and the financial freedom that you deserve. You’re gonna leave energized, motivated, but you’re also gonna leave empowered. The reason why I built these workshops is because as an entrepreneur I always wish that I had this and because there wasn’t anything like this I would go to these motivational seminars, no money down, real estate, Ponzi scheme, get motivated seminars and they would never teach me anything. It was like you went there and you paid for the big chocolate Easter Bunny but inside of it it was a hollow nothingness and I wanted the knowledge. They’re like oh but we’ll teach you the knowledge after our next workshop. The great thing is we have nothing to upsell. At every workshop, we teach you what you need to know. There’s no one in the back of the room trying to sell you some next big get-rich-quick, walk-on-hot-coals product. It’s literally, we teach you the brass tacks, the specific stuff that you need to know to learn how to start and grow a business. I encourage you to not believe what I’m saying, and I want you to Google the Z66 auto auction. I want you to Google elephant in the room. Look at Robert Zellner and Associates. Look them up and say, are they successful because they’re geniuses or are they successful because they have a proven system? When you do that research, you will discover that the same systems that we use in our own business can be used in your business. Come to Tulsa, book a ticket, and I guarantee you it’s going to be the best business workshop ever and we’re going to give you your money back if you don’t love it. We’ve built this facility for you and we’re excited to see it. And now you may be thinking, what does it actually cost to attend an in-person two-day interactive Thrive Time Show business workshop? Today I’m broadcasting from Phoenix, Arizona, not Scottsdale, Arizona. They’re close, but they’re completely different worlds. And of a special guest today, a definition of intelligence is if you agree with me, you’re intelligent. And so this gentleman is very intelligent. I’ve done this show before also, but very seldom do you find somebody who lines up on all counts. And so Mr. Clay Clark is a friend of a good friend, Eric, Eric Trump. But we’re also talking about money, bricks, and how screwed up the world can get in a few and a half hour. So Clay Clark is a very intelligent man, and there’s so many ways we could take this thing. But I thought, since you and Eric are close, Trump, what were you saying about what Donald, who is my age, and I can say or cannot say? First of all, I have to honor you, sir. I want to show you what I did to one of your books here. There’s a guy named Jeremy Thorn, who was my boss at the time. I was 19 years old, working at Faith Highway. I had a job at Applebee’s, Target, and DirecTV. He said, have you read this book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad? I said, no. My father, may he rest in peace, he didn’t know these financial principles. So I started reading all of your books and really devouring your books. And I went from being an employee to self-employed to the business owner, to the investor. And I owe a lot of that to you. And I just wanted to take a moment to tell you, thank you so much for allowing me to achieve success. And I’ll tell you all about Eric Trump. I just want to tell you, thank you, sir, for changing my life. Well, not only that, Clay, thank you, but you’ve become an influencer. More than anything else, you’ve evolved into an influencer where your word has more and more power. So that’s why I congratulate you on becoming. Because as you know, there’s a lot of fake influencers out there, or bad influencers. Yeah. Anyway, I’m glad you and I agree so much, and thanks for reading my books. Yeah. That’s the greatest thrill for me today. Not a thrill, but recognition is when people, young men especially, come up and say, I read your book, changed my life, I’m doing this, I’m doing this, I’m doing this. I learned at the Academy, at King’s Point in New York, acta non verba, watch what a person does, not what they say. JT, do you know what time it is? 410. It’s TiVo time in Tulsa, Oklahoma, baby. JT, you’re in the process of building a super successful company. Did you start out with a million dollars in the bank account? No, I did not. Nope, did not get any loans, nothing like that. Did not get an inheritance from parents or anything like that. I had to work for it. And I am super grateful I came to a business conference. That’s actually how I met you, met Peter Taunton. I met all these people. So if you’re out there today and you want to come to our workshop, again, you just got to go to thrivetimeshow.com. You might say, well, who’s speaking? We already covered that. You might say, where is it going to be? It’s going to be in Tulsa, Russell Oklahoma. I suppose it’s Tulsa Russel. I’m really trying to rebrand Tulsa as Tulsa Russel. I’m sort of like the Jerusalem of America. But if you type in Thrive Time Show and Jinx, you can get a sneak peek or a look at our office facility. This is what it looks like. This is where you’re headed. It’s going to be a blasty blast. You can look inside, see the facility. We’re going to have hundreds of entrepreneurs here. It is going to be packed. Now for this particular event folks, the seating is always limited because my facility isn’t a limitless convention center. You’re coming to my actual home office and so it’s going to be packed. Who? You! You’re going to come. Who? I’m talking to you. You can just get your tickets right now at thrivetimeshow.com and again you can name your price. We tell people it’s $250 or whatever price you can afford and we do have some select VIP tickets which gives you an access to meet some of the speakers and those sorts of things and those tickets are $500. It’s a two-day interactive business workshop over 20 hours of business training. We’re going to give you a copy of my newest book, The Millionaire’s Guide to Becoming Sustainably Rich. You’re going to leave with a workbook. You’re going to leave with everything you need to know to start and grow a super successful company. It’s practical, it’s actionable, and it’s TiVo time right here in Tulsa, Russia. Get those tickets today at thrivetimeshow.com. Again, that’s thrivetimeshow.com. Hello, I’m Michael Levine, and I’m talking to you right now from the center of Hollywood, California, where I have represented over the last 35 years, 58 Academy Award winners, 34 Grammy Award winners, 43 New York Times bestsellers. I’ve represented a lot of major stars and I’ve worked with a lot of major companies and I think I’ve learned a few things about what makes them work and what makes them not work. Now, why would a man living in Hollywood, California in the beautiful sunny weather of LA come to Tulsa? Because last year I did it and it was damn exciting. Clay Clark has put together an exceptional presentation, really life-changing and I’m looking forward to seeing you then. I’m Michael Levine. I’ll see you in Tulsa. Thrive Time Show two-day interactive business workshops are the world’s highest rated and most reviewed business workshops because we teach you what you need to know to grow. You can learn the proven 13-point business system that Dr. Zellner and I have used over and over to start and grow successful companies. When we get into the specifics, the specific steps on what you need to do to optimize your website, we’re going to teach you how to fix your conversion rate. We’re going to teach you how to do a social media marketing campaign that works. How do you raise capital? How do you get a small business loan? We teach you everything you need to know here during a two-day, 15-hour workshop. It’s all here for you. You work every day in your business, but for two days you can escape and work on your business and build these proven systems, so now you can have a successful company that will produce both the time freedom and the financial freedom that you deserve. You’re gonna leave energized, motivated, but you’re also gonna leave empowered. The reason why I built these workshops is because as an entrepreneur, I always wish that I had this. And because there wasn’t anything like this, I would go to these motivational seminars, no money down, real estate, Ponzi scheme, get motivated seminars, and they would never teach me anything. It was like you went there and you paid for the big chocolate Easter bunny, but inside of it, it was a hollow nothingness. And I wanted the knowledge, and they’re like, oh, but we’ll teach you the knowledge after our next workshop. And the great thing is we have nothing to upsell. At every workshop, we teach you what you need to know. There’s no one in the back of the room trying to sell you some next big get-rich-quick, walk-on-hot-coals product. It’s literally we teach you the brass tacks, the specific stuff that you need to know to learn how to start and grow a business. I encourage you to not believe what I’m saying, but I want you to Google the Z66 auto auction. I want you to Google elephant in the room. Look at Robert Zellner and Associates. Look them up and say, are they successful because they’re geniuses or are they successful because they have a proven system? When you do that research, you will discover that the same systems that we use in our own business can be used in your business. Come to Tulsa, book a ticket, and I guarantee you it’s gonna be the best business workshop ever, and we’re gonna give you your money back if you don’t love it. We built this facility for you and we’re excited to see it. And now you may be thinking, what does it actually cost to attend an in-person, two-day, interactive, Thrive Time Show business workshop? Well, good news, the tickets are $250 or whatever price that you can afford. What? Yes, they’re $250 or whatever price you can afford. I grew up without money and I know what it’s like to live without money. So if you’re out there today and you want to attend our in-person, two-day, interactive business workshop, all you got to do is go to Thrivetimeshow.com to request those tickets. And if you can’t afford $250, we have scholarship pricing available to make it affordable for you. I learned at the Academy at Kings Point in New York, acta non verba. Watch what a person does, not what they say. Good morning, good morning, good morning. Harvard Kiyosaki, The Rich Dad Radio Show. Today I’m broadcasting from Phoenix, Arizona, not Scottsdale, Arizona. They’re close, but they’re completely different worlds. And I have a special guest today. Definition of intelligence is if you agree with me, you’re intelligent. And so this gentleman is very intelligent. I’ve done this show before also, but very seldom do you find somebody who lines up on all counts. And so Mr. Clay Clark is a friend of a good friend, Eric Trump. But we’re also talking about money, bricks, and how screwed up the world can get in a few and a half hours. So Clay Clark is a very intelligent man, and there’s so many ways we could take this thing. But I thought since you and Eric are close, Trump, what were you saying about what Donald, who is my age, and I can say or cannot say? Well, first of all, I have to honor you, sir. I want to show you what I did to one of your books here. There’s a guy named Jeremy Thorne, who was my boss at the time, I was 19 years old, working at Faith Highway, I had a job at Applebee’s, Target, and DirecTV, and he said, have you read this book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad? And I said, no. And my father, may he rest in peace, he didn’t know these financial principles. So I started reading all of your books and really devouring your books, and I went from being an employee to self-employed to the business owner to the investor, and I owe a lot of that to you, and I just wanted to take a moment to tell you thank you so much for allowing me to achieve success and I’ll tell you all about Eric Trump. I just want to tell you thank you sir for changing my life. Well not only that Clay, you know, thank you, but you’ve become an influencer. You know, more than anything else, you’ve evolved into an influencer where your word has more and more power. So that’s why I congratulate you on becoming, because as you know, there’s a lot of fake influencers out there too, or bad influencers. Yeah. Anyway, I’m glad you and I agree so much and thanks for reading my books. Yeah. That’s the greatest thrill for me today. Not a thrill, but recognition is when people, young men especially, come up and say, I read your book, changed my life, I’m doing this, I’m doing this, I’m doing this. your book, changed my life, I’m doing this, I’m doing this, I’m doing this.
