Alright ladies and gentlemen, I’m not sure who I’m recording this show for, perhaps I’m recording this show for me, but I wanted to talk through something which is the art of being screwed. How to deal with it. What? Yes, the art of being screwed and how to deal with it. You see, I work with business owners reach out to me all the time to ask me to help them grow their company. And I only work with 160 clients. 160 or 160 clients. And I do that because growing a business has always been easy for me. It’s something I enjoy doing as well. Now I get easy as in, I mean, I think God gave me certain talent and certain skill sets and a passion for growing companies. I’m always curious about how things work, and you know why certain restaurants fail and certain ones succeed. I’ve always been the guy reading case studies about super successful people, super successful businesses, best practice systems. I’m always the guy reading the case studies on how to grow a company as opposed to the fiction book. I’ve always been the guy that wants to read the non-fiction books and I have no interest in Marvel comic movies. But anyway, people reach out to me all the time about growing their business. But what I do is I tell clients, hey, listen, I’m telling you this right now if you’re listening. I charge clients $1,700 a month and then a small percentage of the growth. That’s how I make money. And certain clients can afford to pay $1,700. Other people who are listening right now, potentially, need a scholarship. It’s like a hand up where you need to help somebody. Somebody can’t afford the $1,700. They need a little hand up, not a hand out. But regardless of whether a client starts out as a scholarship client or not, I help them grow their company. And the success stories you’re going to hear on today’s show are massive. And this happens all the time. This is my normal. And so when that happens, that creates an opening or an opportunity for a new client to join my system and to join my program, to be coached, to be mentored. And I really enjoy growing businesses. However, the problem is that money is a magnifier. So money is a magnifier. So I want everyone to look this up and assume I’m making this up right now. But I’ll look it up too so you can hear me type this out here. 85% of employees lie on resumes. And 75% of employees steal from the workplace. And you might say, what? How does that have anything to do with this topic? Well, money is a magnifier. So when you help somebody that is lying, cheating, stealing in vast portions of their life, it’s not like they stop screwing you just because they’re now thankful that you’re helping them. No, no. See, 85% of job applicants, 85% of job applicants lie on resumes. That’s a real thing. And that’s Inc. Magazine. That’s who’s reporting that. And 75% of employees steal. And that’s the U.S. Chamber. So 75% of employees steal from the workplace. These are facts. I mean, this is information that’s been reported by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, but it’s also been reported by many other organizations. So it’s not just exclusively clayclark.com or something. And so what happens is I help people grow their businesses and money is just a magnifier. That’s all it is, right? So when I help people scale their company, it just reveals the scaling of their company, the growing of their business, just reveals who they always were. It allows the client to be more of who they always were. So if you’ve got a pathologically dishonest person who lies all the time, and then you help them scale their company, now they’re just a pathologically lying person with a big company. And so as I share these success stories with you on today’s show, we want to focus on the success and how we help these clients to grow, and it’s exciting. But I also just want you to know in the back of your mind, know that I get screwed all the time. In fact, if you’re listening today, you’re going to get screwed all the time. So today’s show, The Art of Getting Screwed, in a world where 85% of job applicants lie on resumes and 75% of employees steal from the workplace. That’s what this show is about because I think what happens is you listen to a show, a business show and you get excited, you get fired up and you’re fired up about growing your company, but then you go out there and you grow a company. And after you get past the marketing and the branding and the logos and the print pieces and that’s marketing. Then after you get past the sales and the sales systems and the checklists and the scripts and the processes, and then after you get past the accounting, and after you get past the legal and the org charts, you end up dealing with this subject of the art of getting screwed in a world where 85% of job applicants lie on resumes and 75% of employees steal from the workplace. And so it prompted me to record this show. Today I’m dealing with being screwed again. But this is normal, it happens a lot, but this was a big screw. This is the kind of screw where you say, wow, that was a tremendous amount of screwage. Wow, you are getting screwed. And I know I’m getting screwed. And so I’m dealing with being screwed. But I have to focus on becoming better and not becoming bitter. And I think that’s very important for anybody who listens to today’s show. So again, on today’s show, if you’re out there today and you want to scale a company to grow a business, I can help you do that. That part is easy. But the part that it’s difficult when you’re growing a business a lot of times is the emotional part. And so when you think about growing a business, there are three aspects to growing a business that we need to keep in mind at all times. One is just the practical side. You know, so as a coach or a consultant, we help our clients through the practical side of step one, step two, do this, do that, you know, optimize the website, optimize the Google map, make the pro forma, make the workflow, make ads that convert, this is how you hire people, this is how you onboard, this is how you make the product, this is how you deliver the product That that that is the literal part The second part of the cord of business growth is the emotional part You know the first time a client gets sued it’s not pleasant for them The first time that a client we work with has an employee that steals money from them. It’s not positive the first time we have a client that, uh, the first time when I’m working with a client and it’s the first time they’ve had a client steal from them or the first time that we’ve had an employee, um, you know, uh, steal money from them. That’s, that’s the emotional part. So you have the literal part, you have the emotional part. And then the third, the third, and this is maybe a bigger idea. It’s that geopolitical thing, you know, where it’s, I have business owners I work with all the time that are in New York, and they’re dealing with the geopolitical climate of New York and what it’s like to run a business in New York. I have business owners that are trying to run a dentistry, let’s say, or a business in California, and the geopolitical climate, the acceptable behavior in New York and California is maybe different from that of South Dakota or Texas or Oregon. And so I would just say that if you’re looking to grow your business, one, you have to embrace that you’re going to get screwed on an almost annual basis. It’s going to happen. And so I would encourage everybody out there today, if you’ve ever been screwed, listen in to today’s show because you’ll probably learn something because we have to choose to become better and not to become bitter. We have to choose how to become better and not bitter. There is no just us, there is just us, like Matthew 5, 10 straight promised us. Thrive Nation, welcome back to another exciting edition of Ask Me Anything. On today’s show, we are joined by none other than my brother from another mother, Mr. Josh, the founder of Living Water Irrigation. Mr. Josh, welcome on to the show, my friend. How are you? I am awesome, Clay. How are you, sir? Well, I’m excited for the listeners to get to know more about you. Could you share the name of your company a little bit more about what you guys do at Living Water Irrigation, where the name comes from? Absolutely, positively. So, Living Water Irrigation, the most important part of that to me is John 738. So it’s mentioned in the Gospel a number of times, where the living water, but our specific scripture that we drew our name from is John 7, 38. It says, whoever believes in me, rivers of living water will flow through him. We have a very distinct vision as a company on who we are and what we want to do. And I believe that I was put here to go make some money to give it away. And I’m not going to ask you for the specific details of your career and how you started the business as far as a linear timeline, but how long has this particular business been around? We’ve been around just two years, sir. Two years. And you guys, we first met, how did we first meet? I came in and y’all started coaching me over the Thrive Time, over Thrive 15. And what, do you remember when that was approximately and how you first heard about us? So it would have been October or November of 17. October or November of 17. Yes sir. And in terms of your growth as a company, how have you, how much have you grown this year? So this year we’re up 450 percent year-over-year. Well you asked me a question off-air and I want to make sure we could answer the question on-air with some thoughtfulness and some tact. You asked me, you said, hey how often do you get screwed? I think that was the question. Did you say it more artfully? Am I misquoting it in some capacity? I think that’s dead on. All right, I’m going to give you a ratio, and you can jot it down. I want you to think about this, because if you’re not willing to think about it this way, the listener out there, if you can’t think about it this way, your life’s going to be bad. All right, so here we go. For every million dollars of revenue you make, you will have one customer legal issue, litigious issue, or one employee issue per million dollars of gross revenue per year. So if you had 20 million dollars of gross revenue, you will have 20 employee issues at the same time. That is… Or 20 customer problems. Usually not 20 and 20, but 20 total between customer and employee issues that are no fault of your own, no matter how high of a quality standard you have. So John, I’m going to tee up some scenarios and you can go true, false, and supply some details. I’m going to share examples that aren’t too soon to get me in trouble. Have you heard of the story of the employee at Elephant in the Room who had the ear slice incident? Have you heard that story? The ear slice? You didn’t hear that one? Okay. Are you familiar with the finger slice story? Yes. Okay. And with the finger slice story, was it a scary thing? Did you get photos of the finger slice? Yeah, I got photos. And that’s not a good thing as an owner. You’re not excited when a member of your team chops part of their finger off. That’s really not where you go, good deal. I mean, it’s not a good deal. So that’s a burning fire. That’s not a good thing. John, were you aware of the employee that could not come to work in one of our companies, could not, I think we hired this person, and I think during their first maybe 25 days, I think, do we not have like 15 instances of being late, or over 10? Was it over 10? Yeah, over 10 is safe. Think about this. An employee gets a job and their first 25 days is late over 10 times. For sure? Is that number correct? Yes. And then at the end of the day, I’m not going to say what company it is or the person’s gender or any background, other than this person, eventually, John, we had to move on. Right. Do you remember the conversation with this person, whoever they may be, whatever company it may be with? They’re letting him go, part. How’d that go? Well, I mean, if you can’t be on time, especially all of the time, you can’t be on time, it’s time to move on. Do you remember what you said? You just said, hey, if you can’t be on time, it’s time to move on? Yeah, I think I said something very cryptic like that. No, seriously, is that what you said, Doug? No, yeah, I mean, whatever the issue was, or, you know, in general, when employees are doing something that goes against your company values, you just tell them, hey, this is why we’re moving on, and you just tell them straight forward. Okay, and so what happens is that employee, I think, just said a curse word and walked out. Am I getting that wrong? No, that’s right. And then we get a magical letter in the mail from a magical legal group saying this person wants to come after me for discrimination. I think we’re discriminating against…it was some sort of medical issue. But then when there could be no medical issue that was proven that this person had, they moved on to, for the way we did it, or for an environment where we didn’t listen to their concerns or whatever it was. And then they come after you for money. And people don’t realize I’m always dealing with one of those at all times. I’m never not dealing with one of those. So if you’d said, well, Clay, how big do you want to grow Elephant in the Room or Thrive or make your life epic? I don’t. My entire reason for, I don’t. My entire reason for it to grow, honestly, is so that John can hit his goals and then to sell franchises so that the people like Andrew, who are great folks, who worked here to help us build small portions of a big thing. It takes a lot of people building small parts, John, doesn’t it, to build a brand? I mean, it takes a lot of things. A lot of print pieces, a lot of business cards. And so I want the members of our team to be able to buy those franchises for a dollar a piece. You know what’s cool about franchising, Josh? Please tell me. When they have a million dollars of gross revenue, they’re going to have an employee problem or a legal issue, and it’s not mine. And then I get a small fee, like usually 6% of the gross revenue as profit for using the systems, coaching them on the systems, and making sure they’re successful. And then you get the joy of five years from now going, ha ha, I told you it would happen. It’s almost funny though, when you meet a bunch of franchisees, you might meet three or four hundred people at one time, and you’re like, how’s it going in New York? And they go, man, I got this huge lawsuit, and you’re like, wow. But it’s interesting when it’s someone else’s problem. Like when you watch a comedy, you guys ever watched a comedy where somebody falls down? Or maybe in real life where you see somebody fall into a ditch while jogging, and it’s kind of hilarious to you, but you shouldn’t laugh. Now this is an example. I was driving to work over here one day, and we live in Broken Arrow, and there’s a ditch in front of the school. And this guy is just jogging with the earbuds, not the new Apple ones, but the ones with the little cord. They plug into some iPod device. And I don’t know what happened, but he just like misses a step and just rolls down into this ravine. And it’s about five feet deep and it’s more of a hill, it’s not like a cliff. And I just couldn’t find myself, I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. You know, and I thought, God, that’s funny. But then I thought, that’s not funny. That’s somebody who fell in a ditch. I should go back. So I turn around in the high school parking lot. I turn back around and I see the guy trying to play it off like he didn’t fall. And he’s trying to run off. He’s got a limp. Oh, I did a roll. Right. And I just thought, that is funny. He was just practicing tumbling? I remember driving to work going, that is hilarious, now that I know he’s okay, but he’s still in pain. Well, his pride probably hurt more than anything. So a lot of times you meet people, you know, and they’re going through a tough situation in life, it’s like, man, that’s terrible you’re getting sued. What did you get sued for? And you’re like, ah, somebody slipped and fell. John, do you remember the person, did I ever show you the video of the person who intentionally slipped and fell? Yeah, I was just about to bring that up. We had somebody, like, looked around, like they’re standing still. First they asked in a team meeting, unsolicited, they go, why do we have cameras up? Do we have cameras? I think we have cameras. Are those real? Are these up or are those fake cameras? I said, no, no, those are up. They said, oh, okay. My boyfriend dropped me off the other day behind the building and I noticed the cameras and I feel so much safer. Thank you. So it’s like five days later, boyfriend drops off girlfriend for work. She comes in the back of the building looks around to left to the right and then Fake falls right just like it was a slow fall. It’s just like Then they come limping in like Making all the grimacing noises. Oh, I Happen I fell it was hard hard fall you look at the camera. I’m not kidding It’s like the worst acting of all time. Oh, there was no Oscar nomination? It was brutal. It was like a forward fall. And then they know it was convincing, and then they start to try to fall back. It was weird. And they tried saying that the floor was wet, and there was no signs. There’s no signs that warned people that the floor was wet. So then you have to go through that situation. That one I settled, knocked that out. Now my favorite one, this is probably my favorite one of all time. This one really took me to a next level of joy. I won because the people who were investigating it were, they knew I wasn’t lying because they were like, hey, such and such filed a wrongful termination suit against you for discrimination because he is a homosexual. I said, okay, I don’t know this person’s name. They go, no, no, no, he worked for you for two days. And I honestly have never met the person, Josh. Not at a group interview, not in the shadow. I guess he showed up at one of the stores, came in, got an application of some kind, asked if he could shadow, and then like 20, 30 minutes later he peaces out, but says that he was hired. So he never filled out an application. We don’t have anything, but he went for it. And that is in my bathroom. I framed it in my bathroom so you can see it. But that took like months. And buddies of mine are like, dude, are you still dealing with that situation? I’m like, yes, I am. They go, it is just unfortunate the way you treat people who don’t work for you. And they thought it was the most hilarious thing. You’re a real jerk. I was like, I didn’t even know this person was. So that’s the kind of stuff. So to answer your question, per million dollars of gross revenue, you typically have one problem. And to quote Notorious B.I.G. aka Christopher Wallace, mo’ money, mo’ problems. Now, my friend, because you are here on the show, what other questions do you have this week? Any business question at all? As you’re growing Living Water Irrigation, I know this week you implemented a great no-brainer. Which by the way, that is a great no-brainer. Is there a catch? Is there a thing where like, it’s a dollar, and then you send me a huge bill? Or do you tell me what it’s going to cost before we decide to move forward. It is just one dollar for the service called and everything after that we’re gonna sit down we’re gonna talk about it give you the options show you what can be done at your property and then give you a estimate from there. John this is a hot deal. Well it’s cool actually because they’re using sprinklers. Oh hey John you you get a megaphone. So you’re implementing this this program you’re getting more calls right are you getting more calls? Absolutely. Sales are going up. You’re gathering reviews from your real customers, adding content to the website, adding a gallery of work, adding testimonial videos. A lot of things are going on there. As you’re growing, do you have any questions about right now where you’re at in the business where you feel kind of maybe stuck? So I’m going to actually take a minute and make you really uncomfortable, Clay. Nice. Because I know how humble you are, and I know you don’t want to hear this kind of stuff. It’s only my paleness that keeps me humble. So when we started with y’all, it was awesome. We had a little company, just me and one dude and one little van. Yeah. And 17 was great. I ate more than ramen noodles, but not much more. 18 was really good. We started to implement the systems, got start here, got the boom book, went to a couple of conferences and said, OK, I’m going to buy in. I’m going to sell out. We went to the coaching, got coached by Marshall and Victoria and started to implement as opposed to just listen, actually be doers. It’s in James, it says don’t just be hearers of the word, but be doers as well. We implemented scripts, we implemented systems, we implemented checklists, we implemented a pro forma for quoting and all these things that you talk about. Just as a real person, and I’m real, I promise you, there’s a bunch of Josh Wilsons out there. Like I’m a famous baseball player and football player. And a gospel singer. But this Josh Wilson just digs ditches for a living. But I just want to say thank you. Standing here for all the systems. I encourage everybody out there, go pick up Start Here. The stuff you hear on this show, it actually sincerely works it’s not just some nonsensical guy sitting in an awesome man cave who’s bored so he wants to record a show uh… and then from there here’s another super duper move for you schedule your day oh come on wait a second, that right there is a hot tip schedule your day? so i was listening just a few months ago and i was running all over the tulsa metro area from Glenpool to Owasso to Broken Arrow back to Owasso to Jinx to Midtown and I’m like man why am I getting nothing done? Why am I getting nothing done? Well your issue is that you’re running. You’ve got to drive. Why am I talking using a megaphone? Back to you. Well obviously I wouldn’t have his belly if I was running. So my wife says to me hey how was your day honey? Oh I worked all day I did all these things and I’m like wait I have nothing to show that I did anything. So super move number one, you’ve said it 17,000 times. Whatever gets scheduled gets done. So now my day is scheduled. Come on now. So if it’s not on my schedule, nope. Doesn’t happen. I just, I don’t know, John, why this concept is so offensive to people. So I’m going to try to maybe guess it three ways that this concept of saying no to things that aren’t on your schedule is offensive or scheduling time for things. I think, like for us right now, we’re doing this show. We’re recording this show. And we’re recording this show. I’m not taking phone calls right now. I’m not even taking notifications. I’m not taking any app. I don’t have any push notifications. Now if we go up here to Facebook, which I encourage everybody to not do, but if you go to Facebook, I look up here and I’ve got notifications right here. These five little bell ding things. John, what are these five bell ding things? What are these? These are communication to you in some capacity. Yeah, and then when you see those little red dots. Those are Andrew’s pokes. Andrew’s poking you. I should stop that. When you see those red dots or these friend requests, don’t you feel kind of like, I want to make it go away? Yeah. And I think everybody does. If you go into LinkedIn, you want to get rid of it. So I’d say step one is turn off the push notifications. That’s a big thing. Two, turn off the obligations. Think about that. Turn off the push notifications, John. Then turn off the obligations. Let’s talk about push notifications. Why does that help? Turn that off, John? In every area of your life, people are pulling at you. I always talk about if you’re going to do anything at all, just be excellent in that area. You can’t be excellent in all areas, so you have to really pick and choose the areas that you’re going to just put your 100% focus in. If you’re getting notifications, and I don’t remember the stat, where each person gives X amount of notifications a day. According to Psychology Today, and Andrew will put it on the show notes, there’s an article called, Is Your Smartphone Making You Dumb? And clinical researchers discovered that right now the average American, depending on which particular study you want to look at and trust, we’ll put a link to the article, Is Your Smartphone Making You Dumb? The average American is getting between 80 and 95 interruptions per day on their smartphone, in addition to what’s happening right in front of them. Yeah So how can you focus on anything if you’re getting interrupted 80 to 90 times every single day with just social media? That’s not your employees. That’s not your you know spouse. That’s not your family. That’s just no Notifications on your social media. How are you getting anything done? So you want to say no to those push? Notifications now this is this is the next part that I think it’s gonna bother somebody But I want to I want to help you the whole point of this is to help you. Saying no to obligations. Now, this is going to really, this part here, it makes people mad. But like, you know, John, I started this thing called the Tulsa Wedding Association. The Tulsa Bridal Association. The Tulsa Wedding Show was part of it, the big wedding show. We had it at the Renaissance. Now, when you put on a big show and you invite vendors to buy booths at your show, why is that a good move for me to start my own wedding show and to sell booths to? Why at the time was it a good move? Well, you’re around the same business, right? And so, in theory, other people will bring their leads and you’re bringing yours, and then everybody’s making profit off of each other’s. So what we do is we sell 80 booths to a show, Andrew, for approximately about $600 to $700 per booth. And all that money, $48,000, is deployed to advertising on Channel 8, KTUL. Big advertisements, okay? Then now you’ve got to pay for the room. The room is about $15,000, so you charge brides $5 to $10 a head. That goes to pay for the room. Long story short, all the brides, plan your day, end of day, end one wedding show, that’s the place. And that was a cool deal because it allowed me to get in front of all the brides at one time and my competition and my colleagues were helping pay for the traffic. We had so many brides and that trade show was awesome. But the moment that I sold the DJ business, I no longer needed to return the calls of wedding vendors. So I tactfully told them, like, thank you for calling my cell phone, this is Clay. And they go, hey, you know, hey, the wedding show, man, couldn’t get in. Talked to the new owner, you know, new person, I just wanted to see what you could do. I said, well, here’s the deal. I can do nothing because I sold it, but I appreciate you so much. I’m out of the wedding business, so if you need something, you know, about the weddings, just call them and I think you’re great. You know, John, I try to be tactful about it. Right. But it’s like, phone keeps ringing. So I just switched my number. So it used to be 519-4846. 918-519-4846. So I just switched my number for the whole world. And then no one could call me. It was awesome. And people were like, man, I’ve been trying to reach you for years, bro. For years. I changed my address, too. Well, even we had Guy Kawasaki on the show the other day and he said that he changes his email address every, I don’t remember, 30 or 60 days. Just shuts it down and starts a new one. So you’ve got to say no to push notifications, obligations, and the final thing you have to say no to in order to implement like Josh has done with living water irrigation is you have to say no to unnecessary, long-winded communications. There are certain people that talk in long form. As an example, they’ll go, John, did I tell you about this guy I met back in fourth grade? No, it was eighth. No, it was ninth, seventh, maybe sixth. So he’s walking into this, he’s walking in, well actually he and her are walking in, right, and it was like on October, and I’m going, no, it’s probably September. And we still haven’t got into the meat of the conversation. Right, at no point is there a point. And then we work our way into the meat of it, we’re like, and so here’s what had happened. And then it’s like 30 to 45 minutes later, you just know, you look at your phone, if that phone rings and you answer it, it’s going to be a good 48 minutes. Every time. So there’s just certain people you’ve got to say, nope. And then you’ve got to call them and say, hey, dear friend, dear long-winded person, dear whoever this is, in order for me to get things done, because I’m self-employed, I’d love to have you over every Saturday, dude, let’s get together and have beers, let’s go golf, let’s go watch movies, but I cannot during the day have you call me. John, you can get sucked into that, man. Well, I think it goes back to Josh’s point. It’s just scheduling everything, literally everything, not just for your work life, but your home life as well. And so if you know that you have, let’s say, relatives that are just going on long-winded conversations so let’s pick on grandparents. Like this is their move. They’re like, hey, I have a question for you and I’m going to ask it for an hour. And so that’s just the move. And so you know that that’s happening, so you plan time. And so my family, I’ll pick on me, knows that if they try to reach me after a certain time at night, there’s no way that they’re ever getting a response because I’m in bed. You’re in bed? What time are you going to bed? I go to bed at 9 every single day. 9pm, not 9am for those. But if they try to call me afterwards, they’re not getting a response. On the flip side, I’m not going to try to call them at 3 o’clock in the morning when I’m going to work. So there’s different times scheduled for different things. You just have to make sure that you say no if it’s outside of that schedule. Other things I say no to a lot. I don’t watch TV. According to Nielsen, the average person watches 5.2 hours a day of TV. I don’t do that. I don’t do social media. So I ask you this, Mr. Listener, Mrs. Listener. What part of your life do you need to start saying no to? Is it push notifications? Is it obligations? Is it unnecessary conversations? What do you need to say no to? Because if you can’t say no to the things that are holding you back from what you need to do, you’re going to end up living in a van down by the river. Which is cool because we have a Riverwalk office. So we could see you, we could wave at you, it would be a great time for us. I think it’s just a walk office at this point because the river comes and goes. And we like to end each and every show with a living water irrigation boom. Because these are our show sponsors. Our Google presence is phenomenal, our website is a million times better, and just the overall accountability and the process by which we’re conducting ourselves. So our biggest win since working with Thrive is we have we literally March was a record month for us it was almost twice as much as our biggest month prior to that in the last week or so we’ve closed about $250,000 with the business. We still have to go dig a bunch of dishes and get it done but we signed about $250,000 with the business with the relationships we built the things that they’ve implemented through Victoria and Clay and everybody here at Thrive. So I would recommend Thrive to other business owners simply because they can point out where you’re flawed and what you need to work on. You just have to be real and honest with yourself on what you need to improve upon. So that would be first and foremost. The huge reason why I would do it, because it works. It actually, everything that they said when we came in for our initial meeting to today, absolutely positively has been accomplished. Tim Redmond, welcome to the Thrive Time Show. How are you, sir? Clay Clark, I am a man that’s grateful because of you and for you. You’ve been an amazing impact in my life. I’ll just say that up front. Well, you and I have a unique relationship because you were my boss for a long time and then I had the opportunity to work with you as a consultant and we’ve been able to work back and forth with each other. You’ve been hugely helpful. My life is different because of you. So I want to ask you this. When you meet with business owners today, where do you find that most business owners are stuck? Like when you say you’re talking to somebody out there and they have an accounting practice, a dental practice, a contracting business, and they’re stuck, what are the areas where you see people, most business owners, where they most predictably stuck? In the same place that I was stuck when I reached out for your help. In marketing, I did not have a process of constant stream of leads coming in because of lack of marketing and then I lacked a sales workflow that once the lead came in that I could aggressively process it through to get them to come on board so I could help them out. I didn’t have those before I started working with you Clay and you helped me out with that and those are probably two of the most common problems I run into in consulting our clients. You know, one of the things I like to do and I like to explain this to clients is that you have to view your business as a linear workflow, kind of from left to right, like a timeline. Yeah. And so you have to start with fixing your branding and then after you fix your branding, then you want to fix your marketing and after you fix your marketing, you fix your sales and then after your sales, you fix your hiring and firing and then you fix your accounting and you just follow down the path. And how often do you find that business owners need help finding good people? That’s never been a challenge for me to find to hire, train and retain good people, especially during the COVID during the COVID moments, a lot of people said, I can’t find the people now. I still have never had a hard time finding people. What are your thoughts on that? How often are business owners struggling to find good people? Most of who we get is we have specialty docs and contractors. We market aggressively to go after contractors, so that’s most of our clients. I would say, Clay, that that is the number one need and one of the biggest reasons they come on board to get our help here is they cannot find decent people that will show up and actually work. Huge problem. Finding good people. Finding good people, keeping good people, getting people that will actually want to work, yeah, which that could be defined as a good people. Yeah, it’s a huge problem. I know that with the systems we teach people, they will learn how to hire, inspire, train, and retain great people. I think people view hiring as a one-time event, but it’s really a process. I’ll give you an example. Harley is a young guy that’s a member of your team. I’ve met him. It’s his first day working with you, and he’s been a great member of your team and a great guy. But a lot of people, I speak what they say, I have a hard time retaining employees for more than a month or two. If you had to give people tips on how to hire, inspire, train, and retain good people, what would you say to them? If they’ve others listening and they’re struggling to find and hire, inspire, train, and retain good people? Yeah, well, there’s a number of things here. First of all, you want to create an environment that people are attracted to. So one of the biggest requirements or the biggest ways that a leader becomes effective is they create an environment. Most people respond and react to an environment, a lot like a seed. Some grows up, you know the Bible story about some fell away by the by the side and by the stones and all that They didn’t grow up very big but those planted in good soil or a good environment They you know, they’re gonna grow and they’re gonna really produce so number one, you’ve got it, you’ve got to create a good environment for people to join and if it’s Reactive and people are yelling and it’s it’s just an ego clash. That’s not gonna attract decent people. Good people are gonna leave and they’re gonna find another place that’s got a better environment. Number two is you’ve gotta be really clear on what you want them to do. And we have a lot of clients, Clay, and we’ve shared many stories together, we’ve spent many hours together, is a lot of folks here just, they hire people and they just throw them to the dogs and say, I hope you can figure this out as you go. There’s not a training, there’s not a clear expectation. So as a result, they don’t know how to win in their job. And there’s a lot of people, Clay, that they’re dissatisfied because they don’t feel like they’re winning their job and they don’t know how to win in their job. Tim, you know, at the business conferences that you and I have done, you’ve actually appeared at a lot of them and you’ve MC’d and speak at them. I think one of the things people have enjoyed about those is the ability to ask any questions that they want to ask and not to be mocked publicly, but to have somebody that actually answers their questions. What are common questions that you get asked by clients as a business consultant? Like if you could just think through sort of the Rolodex, the mental Rolodex of most frequently asked questions, what do people typically ask you? Because I know as a consultant, what I get asked a lot, but I want to get your thing. What are their questions? So this is a good question, sir. So most of the time they’re either looking for leads, more leads, or more how to hire more staff. And so what has happened is they’ve already gone to two or three or five or seven other marketing firms or hiring firms, and they’ve been very unsuccessful. And so they come with a lot of frustration. And sometimes they’re almost like mad at us to say, well, this is what everybody else said. And I say, well, we’re not just a coaching company that tells you what to do. We’re gonna do it for you coaching companies. So we’re gonna do a lot of this stuff and implement it yourself. I mean, I still hire your staff to get our SEO there and to keep the website it’s up to date and to get the marketing, digital marketing straightened up. So you know it’s really important to be able to deliver something. Can you give me enough leads is a big question or how are you going to help me find decent people because I’ve been out there and there’s nobody else out there. And I said well we have a host system that we introduced but unless you apply this system on a consistent basis, it won’t work. Casualness causes casualties, you know. And so those are big questions. Another big question is, how do I get this business off my back? It just seems like I’m stuck as a slave in my business. So how do I get out of this business here? How do I get it to, when working in the business, I want to work on the business, not just in it. Those are some of the common ones. Now you and your wife just celebrated and celebrated an anniversary, I believe, correct? Yeah, 33. 33? 33 years, yes. The reason why I bring this up is because, you know, my wife and I, we’ve been married 21 years, and I find that in the world of business, there’s a lot of business coaching platforms, a lot of consulting platforms that exist, and I’m not gonna mention the specific names today, but I want to. So instead of mentioning them, I’m just going to pull up video clips to show what I’m talking about here. I’m not going to mention them, I’m just going to show examples of them. They have these, and this is not you saying this, this is me saying this. So what they do is they project a world that doesn’t exist. So I’m going to just type this in and so this would be Oh, Tai Lopez, come on! Okay, so here we go. This is, this is a lot, a lot of people come to me after having been to a workshop that’s similar to this one. So this guy’s name is Tai Lopez and Tai Lopez, this is an actual commercial that he’s running right now on YouTube. Watch this. You know what I like more than flying in a private jet like this? My books. Actually not, but I do bring books with me. Okay, now I don’t know, and maybe I have a different world, maybe I come at the world from a different angle than a lot of people, but I’ve never been in a private jet with a guy like this and a girl like that and a girl like that and a guy like that talking about books. Nor have I ever been in a private jet with people like this, but the point is the idea that he’s selling… look at this. We were just talking a little bit earlier on, um, the question was how to figure out what you should do with your life, like your destiny, what you’re meant to do, what your purpose is. And I don’t know that I want life advice from her or from her or from him or from him and then you go and again and people say Clay, why are you mentioning him specifically? Because I’m trying to speak to my specific, to your specific potential, ideal and likely buyer. There’s only a certain number of clients we can work with at any given time and I just want to be very clear. So this is another example of what we are not. Let me just hit play here. Here in my garage, just bought this new Lamborghini here. Oh God. Here in the Hollywood Hills. But you know what I like a lot more than materialistic things? Oh, here we go. Knowledge. Oh! In fact, I’m a lot more proud of these seven new bookshelves that I had to get installed to hold 2000 new books that I bought. It’s like the billionaire Warren Buffet says, the more you learn, the more you earn. Now, maybe you’ve seen my TEDx talk where I talk about how I read a book a day. You know, I read a book a day not to show off. It’s again about the knowledge. In fact, the real reason I keep this Lamborghini here is that it’s a reminder, a reminder that dreams are still possible because it wasn’t that long ago that I was in a little town across the country. Here we go. Sleeping on a couch in a mobile home with only $47. $47. That’s exactly how many dollars he had. He remembers because he counted how many dollars he had. And Tai Lopez, I mean, he’s got an unbelievable, he has so many different examples of what he does. This is just Tai Lopez, these are, you know, this is Tai Lopez, he’s. I’m not gonna have to go. I’m talking about heartbreak. So a lot of people, when they think of consulting, that’s what they think of. And that’s not what we do. We work with dentists, doctors, lawyers, contractors to help them grow their business. So if you had to contrast what you do, Tim, as a consultant, you know, that I’ve had the honor of working with for basically a decade. Oh, I’m a huge fan of April, too. Yeah, go ahead. How would you describe what you do versus that of which Tai Lopez does? Because again, if you say business consultant or business coach, immediately people picture Tai Lopez due to his shameless jet-based marketing. Well, I’ve got some similarities with Tai in that I do have some books. I actually read them. Oh. And I read them next to a super attractive woman, which is my wife. But that’s about as far as it goes. I know I’m not supposed to say bullshitter, but he’s the biggest bullshitter on the internet, I’m sorry. And I think you’ll have to probably beep that out. But what we do is we are an outcome-focused company, and so we measure our success. You know, the client has to be happy, but we really look at what are the numbers. We have the sales, we got net profit. We have gross profit gross no Gross profit and cost of goods sold we have that we’ve got how much money you have in the bank account We actually measure that we we count it and so it’s the big difference here is Can you count and visibly and tangibly see the results of the coaching and if you can’t kick us out and get rid of us and find Hire Ty Lopez, please don’t hire him. No, I knew and you’ve been married for 33 years I mean this because I’m not saying that you’re a marriage guru. I’m nor am I saying I’m a marriage guru what I’m saying though is that you really want to look at the fruit of the lives of the people that you’re listening to because if you look at Tai Lopez and who he’s hanging around with and what he’s all about, if that’s what you want in your life, then maybe you pursue that. But I call that lifestyle jackassery. It’s fake. It’s smoking. Jackassery. Didn’t you find his address as being in the middle of some cow pasture in England or somewhere? I did. The address that he was using at one point led you to an abandoned warehouse district there. So Tip, we’ve got listeners from all over the country that tune in to the show. Oh, good. And they’re always taking notes. If you had to give the listeners one final pro tip or one final thought before we let you go, what would that be? What would that statement be you want to share with the listeners? I would say that create a cadence in your business. And you do that by having a daily planning that you do, and then every week you touch every aspect of your business, meaning a meeting, an accountability meeting with whoever’s in charge of whatever you’re looking over. You visit that aspect of the business, like for accounting, that’s gonna be Monday at one o’clock. For sales, that’s gonna be Tuesday and Thursday and Friday. We have specific times where we touch every aspect of our business and so creating a cadence in your business is creating this predictable pattern of making sure your business is on track and you’re addressing issues as they go. If we go back eight years ago, think about the number of clients you had back then versus the number of clients you have now. As a percentage, what has been the growth over the past eight years, do you think? We gotta inspire somebody out there who just doesn’t have the time to listen to our call. Okay, so, Clay, it’s like, I would go up and down from about $10,000 a month up to about $40,000, but it’s up and down roller coaster. And so now we’ve got it to where we’re in excess of 100 clients. That’s awesome. And so I would have anywhere from 5 clients to 20 clients on my own with networking, but I had no control over it. Without the systems, you’re going to be victimized by your own business. For somebody out there who struggles with math, let’s say that your average number of clients was 30 and you go to 100. As a percentage, what is that? I have doubled every year since working with you. I’ve doubled in clients. I’ve doubled in revenue every year. That’s 100% growth every year. I’ve worked now so so I’m looking we’ve been good friends seven eight years and I’ve got doubled five times. Which is just incredible I mean the first time you do it that’s one thing but when you do it repeatedly yeah I mean that’s unbelievable. We’re working our blessed assurance off this year to double we’re planning on doubling again. We’re incorporating some new things in there to really help us do it, but we are going to double again this year. I started coaching, but it would go up and down, Clay. That’s when I came to you, as I was going up and down, and I wanted to go up and up instead of up and down. And so that’s when it needed a system. So creating a system is you have nailed down specific steps that you’re going to take no matter how you feel, no matter the results, you lean into them and you do them regardless of what’s happening. You lean into them and it will give you X number of leads. You follow up with those leads, it turns into sales. Well I tell you, if you don’t have a script and you don’t have a system, then every day is a whole new creation. You’re creating a lot of energy just to figure out what are you going to do. Right. And the best executives, Peter Drucker is a father of modern management, he said the most effective executives make one decision a year. What you do is you make a decision what is your system and then you work like the Dickens to make sure you follow that system. That’s really what it’s all about. With a script here, we have a brand new gal that just came in working for us. She nailed down the script and she’s been nailing down appointments. Usually we try to get one appointment for every 100 calls. We make 200 to 300 calls a day per rep. She’s been nailing down five and eight appointments a day on that script. So she’s making how many calls a day? She’s making between two and three hundred calls a day. And our relationship is weird in that we do, if someone were to buy an Apple computer today, and or let’s say you buy a personal computer, a PC, the computer is made by, let’s say, Dell. But then the software in the computer would be Microsoft, let’s say, or Adobe or whatever that is. So I basically make the systems, and you’re like the computer and I’m like the software. That’s kind of how I would describe our relationship. Tim, I want to ask you this. You and I reconnected, I think it was in the year 2000 and, what was it, maybe 2010? Is that right? 2011, maybe? Or maybe even further down the road. Maybe 2013? 2012. Okay, so 2012, and at that time I was five years removed from the DJ business. And you were how many years removed from tax and accounting software? It was about 10, 11 years. We met, how did we meet? What was the first interaction? There was some interaction where you and I first connected. I just remember that somehow you and I went to Hideaway Pizza. Do you remember when we first reconnected? Yeah, well, we had that speaking thing that- Oh, there it was. So it’s Victory Christian Center. I was speaking there. My name is Robert Redman. I actually first met Clay almost three years ago to the day. I don’t know if he remembers it or not, but I wasn’t working with him at the time. I asked to see him and just ask him some questions to help direct my life, to get some mentorship, but I’ve been working with Clay for now just over a year. The role I play here is a business coach, a business consultant. I work with different businesses implementing best practice processes and systems that I have learned here by working with Clay. And the experience working here has, to put it real plainly, has been just life-changing. I have not only learned new things and have gained new knowledge, but I have gained a whole new mindset that I believe wherever I end up will serve me well throughout the rest of my life. Since working with Clay, I have learned so much. I mean, I would like to say it was everything about business in terms of the different categories. I haven’t learned it all, but I’ve learned all about marketing. I’ve learned about advertising. I’ve learned about branding. I’ve learned how to create a sales process for organizations in any industry. I’ve learned how to sell. I’ve learned how to create repeatable systems and processes and hold people accountable. You know, how to hire people. It’s almost like every aspect of a business you can learn, I have learned a lot in those different categories. And then, again, the mindset that I’ve gained here has been huge. Working here, you can’t be a mediocre person. You are a call to a higher standard of excellence, and then as you’re called to that standard here, you begin to see those outcomes in every area of your life. That standard of excellence that you wanna implement no matter what you’re involved in. I would like to describe the other people that work with Clay, are people that are going somewhere with their life. Marshall in the group interview talks about how, you know, the best fits for this organization are the people that are goal-oriented. So they’re on their own trajectory, and we’re on our own trajectory, and the best fits are those people where there can be a mutually beneficial relationship, that as we pursue our goals and we help the business pursue those goals, the business helps us pursue our goals as well. And so I’d say people that are driven, people that want to make something of their lives, people that are goal-oriented, they’re focused, and they’re committed to overcoming any adversity that may come their way. Clay’s passion for helping business owners grow their businesses is, it’s unique in that, I don’t know if there’s anyone else that can be as passionate. You know, whenever a business starts working with Clay, it’s almost as like Clay is running that business in the sense that he has something at stake. You know, he’s just serving them. They’re one of his clients, but it’s as if he is actively involved in the business. Whenever they have a win, he’s posting it all over his social media. He’s shouting it across the room here at Thrive. You know, he’s sending people encouraging messages. He can kind of be that life coach and business coach in terms of being that motivator and that champion for people’s businesses. It’s again unique because there’s no one else I’ve seen get so excited about and passionate about other people’s businesses. The kind of people that wouldn’t like working with Clay are people that are satisfied with mediocrity, people that want to get through life by just doing enough, by just getting by, people who are not looking to develop themselves, people who are not coachable, people who think that they know it all and they’re unwilling to change. I would say those are the type of people, in short, anyone that’s content with mediocrity would not like working with Clay. So if you’re meeting Clay for the first time, the advice I’d give you is definitely come ready to take tons of notes. Clay speaks, he gives you a wealth of knowledge that you don’t want to miss. I remember the first time that I met Clay, I literally carried a notebook with me all around. I was looking at this notebook the other day actually. I carried a notebook with me all around and I just took tons of notes. I filled the entire notebook in about three or four months just from being around Clay, following him and learning from him. And then I would say come coachable. Be open to learning something new. Be open to challenging yourself. Be open to learning and adjusting parts about you that need to be adjusted. Oh my God! Hey! I went to a small private liberal arts college and got a degree in business, and I didn’t learn anything like they’re teaching here. I didn’t learn linear workflows. I learned stuff that I’m not using and I haven’t been using for the last nine years so what they’re teaching here is actually way better than what I got at business school and I went what was actually ranked as a very good business school. The linear workflow, the linear workflow for us and getting everything out on paper and documented is really important. We have workflows that are kind of all over the place so the having linear workflow and seeing that mapped out on multiple different boards. It’s pretty awesome. That’s really helpful for me. The atmosphere here is awesome. I definitely just stared at the walls, figuring out how to make my facility look like this place. This place rocks. It’s invigorating. The walls are super. It’s just very cool. The atmosphere is cool. The people are nice. It’s a pretty cool place to be. Very good learning atmosphere. I literally want to model it and steal everything that’s here at this facility and basically create it just on our business side. I was looking to learn how to just get control of my life, my schedule, and just get control of business. Hands-on, how to hire people, how to deal with human resources, a lot about marketing, and overall just how to structure the business, how it works for me, and also then how that can translate into working better for my clients. The most valuable thing I’ve learned here is time management. I like the one hour of doing your business is real critical if I’m going to grow and change. You don’t go to a carnival atmosphere and learn what to do here at a private conference. It’s great. The reason people should attend at least one of these conferences is because it’s common sense. And everybody’s fed an entire line about the way you should run a business, but until you actually experience running a business, which is, candidly, what you learn here, how to run a business, you don’t know what you’re doing. My name is Tyler Hastings and this is my wife, Rachel, and our company is Delricht Research out of New Orleans. During our time working with Thrive, we’ve had numerous successes. When we first started, we were working with one physician. We had one research site and we were seeing on average, you know, between 10 and 15 patients a week. Since working with Thrive in the last 18 months, we now have four research sites. We work with over five physicians, and on average, we’re now seeing over 60 patients per week. Recently, we’ve been the top enroller worldwide in seven studies, which is just incredible, considering where we were two years ago, 18 months ago. I heard about the Thrive Time Show workshop through Andy Mathren. He is my, Andy Mathren and Larry Montgomery, they’re my bosses at Restore Home Health. So I work with a home health company called Restore Home Health, and my role is pretty much to bring in business. So I was hoping to learn kind of the sales process on top of just kind of the responsibilities and help understand what it looks like on the SEO side and just kind of an all-around what it looks like to own a business because that’s something I want to do in the future for sure. How I would describe the atmosphere here at Thrive is high energy, great professionalism, great people. It’s just a place you definitely want to visit in the app. Plays delivery style, humorous professional Hilarious just he does it. I haven’t seen someone do it better. So he does he does a great job Most valuable thing I’ve learned so far a lot of it has been extremely valuable So but one one thing that was really stuck out to me is the s learning the SEO stuff I mean that is I think things you don’t Really even think about and then you hear it and you think you know it but you don’t know it. So I feel like that was the most valuable. Well they’re missing out on just what comes down to just basic applications to be a business owner. I mean I feel like it’s like an absolute necessity you know to come here and learn the ins and outs and maybe come here once or twice if they you know take good notes that kind of thing. Why? So just, it’s the experience here and what you can learn, like absolutely. So marketing and SEO seemed like something that would be very scary, but then in the way that Clay and his team described it, became very clear and concise and something that’s very accessible to any business owner. I’ve learned a lot about marketing at this conference and a lot about business management and HR, really everything, the key components of anybody’s business, they’re going to give you the best tools to be successful at it. So most workshops or conferences can be really boring, really one note, or they just seem so theatrical that it’s a joke and it’s not even giving you the tools that you need or that you came there for. But here, it’s still high energy, it’s still fun, everything’s to the point, but it’s very professional. And yeah, you’re missing out on easy steps to use in your business that are very accessible and very clear. My name is Abigail McCarter. The best thing I’ve learned so far is definitely organization, schedule-wise, always keeping a to-do list, keeping your calendar organized. I’m kind of all over the place, so that’s always good to know. So Clay’s presentation style and the atmosphere is electric. It’s so energetic. It’s so fun. Clay’s hilarious, but also knows a ton. So it’s just really great all around. This conference is much different than any other conference I’ve gone to, again because it’s fun. Like a lot of other conferences, it’s like really quiet, really cold, and you just kind of get bored. But this one, you’re like always engaged, you’re always learning something, and the staff is amazing. They’re always super helpful, so it’s just been really great. My name’s Clint Mallard. We’re a personal training and fitness training facility. Oh wow, I’m learning a ton. Like this morning so far, it’s been search engine optimization. So really just the importance of being at the top of Google, how Google works, and why it’s so important to go out and get video reviews and testimonials and getting Google reviews. And so all those things we can take back and really apply that immediately. So it’s really cool to see not only how to do it, but really the relevance and importance of it over your long-term strategy of investing in Google. No, it’s amazing. Actually, on the way in this morning and yesterday, I was videoing as I was walking in the front entrance. And actually, me, I go to a lot of seminars. I go to a lot of conferences, massive ones. I’ve been doing this since I was like 22 years old, so I got to almost 20 years now. And this is by far the most entertaining. Not only the content, their content is amazing, but Clay and you guys did a great job of mixing in entertainment where it’s fun, it’s fresh, it’s lively, you never get bored. I heard a study one time that the reason that children learn so much quicker is because it’s fun, learning is fun. So obviously Clay is nailed that, where it’s very fun to be here and keeps you awake, keeps you energized, so I’m having a blast. Yeah, I think any business owner or someone that wants to own a business or considering owning and starting a business should definitely come. I know that I was referred here by friends of mine and clients of mine and I’ve referred other people. Again, just to understand what it takes to make a business successful, to have a good time obviously, you’re not going to just stay and have fun. And that works. And so a lot of the things that we learned, we’ve put into place. And now we’re doing the next level of refining the processes for just a different concept. And so it’s getting better and better. Things that were just big processes before, we have the foundation laid, and now we’re able to make it better and better. And I’m hearing different themes now that we’ve implemented things. And so we can just make it even better, implement it into our own business. Clay’s presentation and the atmosphere is very exciting and fun, it keeps you awake, it makes it interesting. You have a lot of information, but if it’s not going to be entertaining, your brain is going to tune it out. But Clay makes it just entertaining enough that you retain what you learn. Lots of rhyming and catchy things so that you remember stuff. Something that makes this conference different than other workshops or conferences that I’ve been to is that there’s a lot of people here in my same situation. Most of us are pretty small businesses wanting to improve, and we want real life information and something that will work and that’s attainable, and not just some crazy magic formula, but actual action items that we can implement in our business and actually see a difference. Everyone should attend a Drivetype business conference, whether you’re a business owner or not. A, if you’re a business owner, it has practical applications that you can apply to so many different parts of your business, and then you need to come back for more, so that you can keep doing more of the wonderful things that you learn. But secondly, I am also a mom of three kids and a lot of the concepts can actually be applied to home, like getting routines and getting, setting systems at home has just seriously made a huge difference in my life at home. So I’ve been able to improve our business, but I’ve also been able to improve things at home. And so that’s why everyone should come, no matter what your station is in life. My name is Nolan Q. And yeah, by being here, I really do want to go back and be able to face all the adversity that the industry has. Yeah, this conference, the thing that makes it different is that it’s special because it has a unique set of individuals that all share that same energy. Our business is HCS Electric. My husband’s the owner, but I’m involved with that, so we’re a electric company. Well, here at the conference, they talk a lot about consistency, and so just staying consistent with different things in the business. And I feel like applying that to our business model will really help us grow. The atmosphere is very positive, uplifting, and then it’s very fun and energetic. And so it gets you pumped and it gets you excited, and it encourages you to do big things. I probably how real they are. They tell you upfront what you need to do and what’s like a no-go. And so conferences are, they kind of sugarcoat things. So I like how real they are here. I think it’ll definitely, if you want your business to grow, I think this would be a great, a great experience. And then not only that, it’ll encourage you and inform you on so many things you don’t think about on a daily basis. Hey, I’m Ryan Wimpey. I’m originally from Tulsa, born and raised here. I’ve definitely learned a lot about life design and making sure the business serves you. The linear workflow, the linear workflow for us in getting everything out on paper and documented is really important. We have workflows that are kind of all over the place, so having linear workflow and seeing that mapped out on multiple different boards is pretty awesome. That’s really helpful for me. The atmosphere here is awesome. I definitely just stared at the walls figuring out how to make my facility look like this place. This place rocks. It’s invigorating. The walls are super…it’s just very cool. The atmosphere is cool. The people are nice. It’s a pretty cool place to be. Very good learning atmosphere. I literally want to model it and steal everything that’s here at this facility and basically create it just on our business side. Play is hilarious. I literally laughed so hard that I started having tears yesterday. And we’ve been learning a lot. We’ve been sitting here, we’ve been learning a lot, so the humor definitely helps. It breaks it up. But the content is awesome, off the charts. And it’s very interactive. You can raise your hand, it’s not like you’re just listening to the professor speak. The wizard teaches, but the wizard interacts and he takes questions, so that’s awesome. If you’re not attending the conference, you’re missing about three quarters to half of your life. You’re definitely, it’s probably worth a couple thousand dollars. So you’re missing the thought process of someone that’s already started like nine profitable businesses. So not only is it a lot of good information, but just getting in the thought process of Blake Clark or Dr. Zellner or any of the other coaches getting in the thought process of how they’re starting all these businesses To me just that is it’s priceless. That’s that’s money Well, we’re definitely not getting up sold here My wife and I have attended conferences where they up what was great information and then they up sold us like half the conference I don’t want to like bang my head into a wall And she’s like banging her head into the chair in front of her. Like it’s good information but we’re like oh my gosh I want to strangle you shut up and go with the presentation that we paid for and that’s not here. There’s no upsells or anything so that’s awesome I hate that. Oh it makes me angry so glad that’s not happening. So the cost of this conference is quite a bit cheaper than business college. I went to a small private liberal arts college and got a degree in business. And I didn’t learn anything like they’re teaching here. I didn’t learn linear workflows. I learned stuff that I’m not using and I haven’t been using for the last nine years. So what they’re teaching here is actually way better than what I got at business school. And I went what was actually ranked as a very good business school. I would definitely recommend that people would check out the Thrive 15 conference. He’s helped us grow from two locations to now six locations. We’re planning to do seven locations in seven years and then franchise. And Clay’s done a great job of helping us navigate anything that has to do with running the business, building the systems, the checklists, the workflows, the audits, how to navigate lease agreements, how to buy property, how to work with brokers and builders. So think of this guy with a team of business coaches running 160 companies. So in the weekly, he’s running a hundred and sixty companies Every six to eight weeks. He’s doing reawaken America tours every six to eight weeks He’s also doing business conferences where 200 people show up and he teaches people a 13-step proven system that he’s done and worked with Billionaires helping them grow their companies. So he’s I’ve seen guys from startups go from startup to being multi-millionaires, teaching people how to get time freedom and financial freedom through the system. Critical thinking, document creation, making it, putting it into, organizing everything in their head to building it into a franchisable, scalable business. One of his businesses has like 500 franchises. That’s just one of the companies or brands that he works with. Amazing guy, Elon Musk, kind of like smart guy. A coach is actually helping you get to the best you and Clay’s been an amazing business coach. Through the course of that, we became friends. I was really most impressed with him is when I was shadowing him one time. We went into a business deal and listened to it. I got to shadow and listen to it. And when we walked out, I knew that he could make millions on the deal, and they were super excited about working with him. And he told me, he’s like, I’m not gonna touch it. I’m gonna turn it down. Because he knew it was gonna harm the common good of people in the long run. And the guy’s integrity just really wowed me. It brought tears to my eyes to see that this guy, his highest desire was to do what’s right and anyways, just an amazing man. So anyways, impacted me a lot. He’s helped navigate any time I’ve gotten nervous or worried about how to run the company or navigating competition and an economy that’s like, I remember, we got closed down for three months. He helped us navigate on how to stay open, how to get back open, how to just survive through all the COVID shutdowns, lockdowns, because our clubs were all closed for three months, and you have $350,000 of bills you’ve got to pay, and we have no accounts receivable. He helped us navigate that, and of course, we were conservative enough that we could afford to take that on for a period of time. But he was a great man. I’m very impressed with him. So Clay, thank you for everything you’re doing and I encourage you if you haven’t ever worked with Clay, work with Clay. He’s going to help magnify you and there’s nobody I have ever met that has the ability to work as hard as he does. He probably sleeps four, maybe six hours a day and literally the rest of time he’s working and he can outwork everybody in the room every single day and and he loves it. I first heard about Clay through a mortgage lender here in town who had told me what a great job he had been doing for them. And I actually noticed he was driving a Lamborghini all of a sudden, so I was willing to listen. In my career, I’ve sold a little over $800 million in real estate. So honestly, I thought I kind of knew everything about marketing and homes. Holmes, and then I met Clay, and my perception of what I knew and what I could do definitely changed. After doing $800 million in sales over a 15-year career, I really thought I knew what I was doing. I’ve been managing a large team of salespeople for the last 10 years here with Shaw Homes, and we’ve been a company that’s been in business for 35 years. We’ve become one of the largest builders in the Tulsa area, and that was without Clay. So when I came to know Clay, I really thought, man, there’s not much more I need to know, but I’m willing to listen. The interesting thing is our internet leads from our website has actually, in a four-month period of time has gone from somewhere around 10 to 15 leads in a month to a hundred and eighty internet leads in a month. Just from the few things that he’s shown us how to implement that I honestly probably never would have come up with on my own. So I got a lot of good things to say about the system that Clay put in place with us and it’s just been an incredible experience. I am very glad that we met and had the opportunity to work with Clay. So the interaction with the team and with Clay on a weekly basis is honestly very enlightening. Well, our experts are breaking it down for people so that you can clearly understand how to come up top in Google. It’s doable. It’s possible. Now we’re in the middle of a break and what we like to do is we like to give you as much tangible and relevant information from about the start of the hour for 45 minutes. Then we take approximately a 15 minute break to allow people to connect with other entrepreneurs around them, bathroom break, and also use this time to just really digest all of the good information that you’re receiving the whole time. And so what we like to do is partner with these companies to also help them give samples to other people as they come to the conference and truly get their name out. This is probably the best conference or seminar I’ve ever been to in over 30 years of business. You’re not bored, you’re awake and alive the whole time. It’s not pushy, they don’t try to sell you a bunch of things. I was looking to learn how to just get control of my life, my schedule, and just get control of business. Planning your time, breaking it all down, making time for the F6 in your life, and just really implementing it and sticking with the program. It’s really lively, they’re pretty friendly, helpful, and very welcoming. I attended a conference a couple months back, and it was really the best business conference I’ve ever attended. At the workshop I learned a lot about time management, really prioritizing what’s the most important. Biggest takeaways are, you know, you want to take a step-by-step approach to your business. Whether it’s marketing, you know, what are those three marketing tools that you want to use, to human resources. Some of the most successful people and successful businesses in this town, their owners were here today because they wanted to know more from Clay, and I found that to be kind of fascinating. The most valuable thing that I’ve learned is diligence, that businesses don’t change overnight. It takes time and effort and you got to go through the ups and downs of getting it to where you want to go. He actually gives you the roadmap out. I was stuck, didn’t know what to do and he gave me the roadmap out step by step. We’ve set up systems in the business that make my life much easier, allow me some time freedom. Here you can ask any question you want, they guarantee it’ll be answered. This conference motivates me and also gives me a lot of knowledge and tools. It’s up to you to do it. Everybody can do these things. There’s stuff that everybody knows, but if you don’t do it, nobody else is going to do it for you. I can see the marketing working. It’s just an approach that makes sense. Probably the most notable thing is just the income increase that we’ve had. Everyone’s super fun and super motivating. I’ve been here before, but I’m back again because it motivates me. Your competition’s going to come eventually or try to pick up this tactic. So you better, if you don’t, somebody else will. How to grow a business using Google reviews and then just how to optimize our name through our website also. Helpful with a lot of marketing, search engine optimization, helping us really rank high in Google. The biggest thing I needed to learn was how to build my foundation, how to systemize everything and optimize everything, build my SEO. How to become more organized, more efficient. How to make sure the business is really there to serve me, as opposed to me constantly being there for the business. New ways of advertising my business, as well as recruiting new employees. Group interviews, number one. Before we felt like we were held hostage by our employees. Group interviews has completely eliminated that because you’re able to really find the people that would really be the best fit. Hands-on how to hire people, how to deal with human resources, a lot about marketing and overall just how to structure the business, how it works for me and also then how that can translate into working better for my clients. The most valuable thing I’ve learned here is time management. I like the one hour of doing your business. It is real critical if I’m going to grow and change. Play really teaches you how to navigate through those things and not only find freedom, but find your purpose in your business and find the purposes for all those other people that directly affect your business as well. Everybody. Everybody. Everyone needs to attend the conference because you get an opportunity to see that it’s real.
